Wow, this is unexpected! I can't say I cared much for Meyer's ego at times, but he is unquestionably a great football coach. And I hate to see anyone sidelined for health reasons, so (I can't believe I'm saying this) best of luck to you Coach Meyer.

Unbelievable! Even though I am not a Gator fan, I hope his health is alright. He is/was an excellent coach and has had some big time success...hopefully he now has success dealing with these issues.

But wow this is huge news. I bet they go after Bob Stoops, and if they don't get him then I bet they go after Whittingham.

I hope he is ok because he always seemed like a good guy, but at the same time Im always thinking about the Huskers and the possible affect this could have.

 

I know it likely won't directly affect Nebraska, but down the line it could... Florida takes X coach, that school takes Y, etc, etc...

Meyer has a heart muscle defect.

Meyer has been to the hospital multiple times since suffering chest pains after the SEC title game, a Florida source told ESPN. He has been diagnosed with a heart valve muscle defect, the source said.

 

The problem is not life threatening, a Florida source with knowledge of the situation told ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The same source said Meyer will remain in Gainesville in a non-coaching role to be defined later.

 

Meyer will hold a news conference in New Orleans on Sunday afternoon and will coach his final game in the Allstate Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati on New Year's Day.

Kind of interesting they were coming up with comparisons of people leaving in their peak and TO name wasn't mentioned.
