HuskerMoon
So with all this talk about being back or not being back, I pose the question. What does being back consist of? To me being back consists of the following: Finishing in the top 10 (with a rogue top 15) year in and year out. Sending a minimum of 3 players to the NFL every year. Competing for a conference championship almost every year. Having the terms National Championship and Nebraska mentioned in the same sentence year in and year out by national media when they discuss possible contenders. Consistently beating top 25 opponets. Feeling like a favorite in contests with top 25 opponets. Winning streaks consisting of more than one (1) year against ALL conference opponets. Eventual winning records against ALL conference opponets. Having a legitimate Heisman trophy candidate every 5-10 years. Having an intimidating defense that terrifies opponets. Having an intimdating stadium and home field advantage over opponets. When 9 wins is a really BAD season. When anything less than a BCS Bowl is a HUGE dissapointment When ESPN Gameday starts coming to Lincoln every year. Three Step Process to being back. Step 1: Win BCS Bowl Game Step 2: Win BIG XII Championship Step 3: Win National Championship Please share you're thoughts on what it takes to be back. Quote Link to comment

junior4949
Being back to me means owning the North once again. It means being able to say we belong on the same field as OU and Texass. It means no more getting squashed in our own backyard. Quote Link to comment
sd'sker
Win the North more times than not. Fair share of CCG. At least 10 wins every season. The chance for winning a national championship will come if we can accomplish those three goals. Quote Link to comment
zoogs
Still asking too much. VT's string of 10-win seasons makes them a pretty remarkable program for the what, six years they've kept it up now. Mostly 9 win seasons, occasionally less, occasionally more. Fielding competitive teams that make noise in the Big 12 and national scene. If we can't accept this, our HC position is going to be a revolving door and we are never going to be happy as a fanbase. I think "owning the North" and "belonging on the same field with anybody" are good barometers. Quote Link to comment
HuskerMoon
Perhaps thats true. Maybe Nebraska will never be back in my book. I expect only that they exceed or in the very least meet the expectations of Nebraska football past. It may be asking too much but none the less, it's what I expect. Quote Link to comment
HuskerTrucker
We still have a few years to go before we will be at NC caliber talent here. I wouldn't get too worked up just yet, or get your hopes up. We have a lot of questions that have to be answered not only on offense, but on defense, and in some respect special teams in the next couple of years. Quote Link to comment

Landlord
Being back isn't about any of those things. It's about a mindset, and a perception. Quote Link to comment
CHOPSKER
To me being back means expecting to at least have a respectable chance at winning no matter who the opponent is, and when the Huskers do happen to lose game -- it takes so much for the opponent to get that win that they play at a diminished capacity for the rest of the season. T_O_Bull
Back? Here is what 'Back' is. TO took over a team that was a 2 Time, back to back, National Championship Team. The State of Nebraska had elevated Bob Davaney to the point of Saint-hood. Davaney did the clasic bail when you are on top. You can't blame him, most of us would have done the same. What TO did was come in and build on the foundation that had been built for him. TO turned out to be the greatest college couch of the final 30 years of the 20ieth Centurary. TO always gave us a shot at No. 1 and if not the top 5. That's what means, 'We are back.' Give Nebraska a shot at the the 'Goden Ring' every year. That's BACK!!! T_O_B Quote Link to comment
