Doesnt mean much other then we dont have to climb as much. If we win our first 5 games(should be 5-0) and they win their first 5(Texas Tech and Oklahoma might be tough)

but if we are both 5-0, we are talking 2 top 5 teams maybe. Gameday!?!?!?!

We dont play either one of those teams next year but texas could be gameday.

Well I think Ohio St will probably be top 8 even though they have some defensive rebuilding to do (never seems to slow em down much).

Oregon returns a lot of playmakers

Oklahoma will be better but who knows

USC will get love as always with a second year qb now

iowa loses some lineman on both sides of the ball but that's about it

bama seems to lose some defenders but their playmakers (minus cody) return

not sure about penn st, florida's returners (hear florida is losing a wave of defenders to the draft early), perhaps some teams like boise/tcu or some from the big east/ACC.

Looking over NationalChamps.net's early bird rankings (which have historically been very accurate compared to the preseason AP poll), and thinking about the results of the major bowl games, here is what I expect the top 15 to look like in August:

1. Alabama

2. Boise St.

3. Ohio St.

4. Oregon

5. Iowa

6. Texas

7. Florida

8. TCU

9. Miami

10. Georgia Tech

11. Nebraska

12. USC

13. Penn St.

14. Oklahoma

15. Cincinnati

I have never understood why most people say that preseason rankings mean nothing. They mean a TON. They are the starting point. They dictate how far up the ranking ladder we have to climb to get to the top. Sure the are often inaccurate. There will always be teams that a ranked way higher or lower than they should be at the beginning of the year, like Notre Dame this year. I for one am pumped that we will be in the top 10 next year. Whether its for 1 game or for 14 games, it has been too long sense we have sniffed the top 10.
