I don't see a problem with it. Unlike us and OU, Michigan will have a protected crossover with OSU so it's not like their rivalry will end. It's not at the end of the season anymore but I think it still helps the rivalry since now they can meet in the championship game. If we had had a protected crossover with OU our rivalry would still be going strong.

The 'problem' is explained by this guy: A Buckeye

The problem with this is you're talking to a fan base who had their best game of the year taken away entirely, not just moved to a different day. You're not going to get a lot of sympathy here.

Well said my friend

I wish the divisions would look like this....

********************************************

Division A

Nebraska

Penn State

Iowa

Wisconsin

Minnesota

Northwestern or Illinois

Division B

Ohio St.

Michigan

Michigan St.

Purdue

Indiana

and our crossover game with Michigan

*********************************************

but hey it doesn't look like it will be that way, I do hope if Penn State is not in our division that they would be our crossover game though.

Northwestern or Illinois

That would be perfect if Penn State were located somewhere between Illinois and Iowa

Now its already said that geography will not be the primary factor for settling who will go to which divisions, but it will be taken into consideration. In my mind rivalries and history outweighs geography.

but if that doesn't work, give us Penn State as a cross-over (although the implications of the game go down a little bit).

I'm not a fan of the move, but if they have enough of the Big Ten AD's agreeing with it, then I'd consider that it can't be too bad of a plan, whatever they have in mind.

What are the chances that these rumors are deliberately being put out there to test the waters so-to-speak?. To gauge reaction.

Generally speaking, from national & local writers and radio shows to pundits to blogs and message board fans, the reaction seems to be leaning to the negative.

Shouldnt put their marbles in on two teams based on old traditions. IDK if MICH will ever really recover.

I'll just about guarantee it. Michigan didn't become the winningest college football team of all time by accident. They have a huge fan base. They have boosters up the wazoo, with money up the wazoo. They have a huge, great, destination school. They have tradition that 95% of all college football teams can only dream of having. They are among the elite for a reason, and one or two bad coaches in a row isn't going to be enough to keep them down. It would take generations of horrific play to fully dampen the ardor from Ann Arbor.

We saw this stumble with Nebraska. We saw it with Oklahoma. We saw it with USC. We saw it with Miami. We saw it with Alabama. We saw it with any one of another ten schools, just like we're seeing it right now with Notre Dame and Michigan, but I will double-dog guarantee you that both Notre Dame and Michigan are going to rise up again. Gonna happen, not a doubt in my mind.

"...ardor from Ann Arbor"?? :laughpound

protected rivalry via cross over game anyone? SEC does the big ten will as well. The big rivalry will continue, albeit on a different date.

Well, I suppose, it's just the difference between climax and anti-climax. The timing of this game is a big part of what made it great.

I agree.

Thanksgiving really sucks now without the NU/OU game pitting two top-10 teams in their last (or 2nd to last) game of the regular season.

Now..as a college fan..Taking away the OSU/UM game will be worse than forgetting to thaw out the turkey.

At the start of the Big-12, I wasn't all that concerned about losing the OU game because I just figured since we were in separate divisions, we'd naturally just play each other in the conference championship game..Trouble is..neither of us were much good at the same time.

Since I was married to a Buckeye, And my hybrid Son is a fan of both OSU and Nebraska, I'd love to get a rivalry going with them, but history (Shared MNCs and controversial endings) favors PSU and Michigan as our "natural rivals"

I think you're probably right with Michigan. I don't know who this 'Notre Dame' is you're talking about though ;)

But a rivalry is naturally another school in the relative area. Very rarely does a rivarly occur when two schools are hundreds of miles apart(USC-ND). I would say we have a better chance at developing a rivalry with Iowa and Wisconsin than Michigan or Penn St.

The hell with MSU. I could care less about them, If we don't get Michigan-OSU for the last game of their respective seasons I say we break out the torches and pitchforks and head down to the Big Ten HQ. Seriously, if it's that much of a f'ing chore to keep a tradition since 1935 then do the divisions like this:

West

Iowa

Michigan

Minnesota

Nerbaska

Purdue

Wisconsin

Season Finale games of the West: Iowa v Minnesota (rivalry), Michigan-Nebraska (rivalry), Wisconsin-Purdue

or

Iowa-Nebraska (Farmageddon), Michigan-Wisconsin (rivlary), Minnesota-Purdue (slight rivalry)

East

Illinois

Indiana

Michigan State

Northwestern

Ohio State

Penn State

Season Finale Games: Illinois v NW (rivalry), Indiana vs MSU (rivalry), OSU vs PSU (rivlary)

I think that would be the ideal divisions and season finale matchups if Michigan-OSU doesn't work out.

Im fine with rivalries with any of those teams, just as long as they aren't our main Rival. Heck Colorado had one national title and a recent Heisman and they weren't qualified to be our main Rival, so what makes Iowa or any of the rest?

So who do you consider our Rival? Mizzou? KSU? Even though our rivalry with Colorado is not a 1 vs. 2 anymore, I loathe that team and take personal joy everytime we beat them. I still consider them our rival based on our mutual hatred.

I personally would just like to see them put Michigan and OSU in the same division and keep the normal date for the game. I know it wouldn't really matter that much if they changed it a bit, but it's tradition. I know what it feels like to have your main rivalry game messed with and I didn't like it.

If things get changed around, I sure hope the Big 10 teams/fans don't blame the Huskers for the changes in tradition. If anyone knows what blown up tradition is like, it's us.
