82 year olds do far more dangerous things all the time (they drive cars). If the people in the plane trusted him then he was obviously healthy and mentally able as far as they knew.

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State University women's basketball coach and his assistant were killed when the single-engine plane transporting them on a recruiting trip crashed in steep terrain in Arkansas, the university said Friday.

 

 

Kurt Budke and Miranda Serna died in the accident Thursday afternoon in the Winona Wildlife Management Area near Perryville, about 45 miles west of Little Rock.

 

The pilot, 82-year-old former Oklahoma state Sen. Olin Branstetter, and his 79-year-old wife, Paula, also died when the plane sputtered, spiraled out of control and nosedived into the forest.

 

There were no survivors.

Horrible news. Condolences to all the families affected by this tragedy. Hard to fathom that this same tragedy struck OSU's men's basketball team 10 years ago.

Heard the news on the radio on the drive home from work...sounds like the canopy came off on takeoff and they lost control. Terrible news.

 

The station out of Topeka played an interview they'd done with Budke two or so years ago, he sounded like a great man. What a loss.

Prayers go out to all those affected of this tragic accident. When I heard the news yesterday morning as I was listening 1620, I almost started crying and thought out loud....... "Not again?!?!"
