WoodyHayes1951
You forgot Pat Fitzgerald. He is going to be a GREAT(not good) Head Coach. You've said this quite a bit and haven't gotten much feedback so I thought I'd mention I also share this opinion. Like Ferentz and even more so than Ferentz he's managed to consistently make something out of nothing and get that school to Bowls. Granted they haven't won any but only 6 years in and the guy already has set records at that school for most bowl seasons as a HC. He's a great guy, I'm surprised no one's made a real attempt to swipe him away yet. On the Urban Meyer note, I hate the idea of him coaching at OSU. It's scary. He's going to put together some really good teams. While I think its good that we have a big name to bring back a powerhouse in our conference I'm fearful that he could dominate and lead to the Big Ten suffering from a "one-team-show" perception that we had going on the last 10 years with OSU. Oh well....we'll see. I hope Pat stays an NU forever. It would hurt our domination of the school but If I was 18 and had any sort of football talent then I'd seriously consider NU as a top-5 option(Of course I would need to make the grades first) As far as Urban, the hire should push the other schools to be better. I know the team up north stepped away for three years and trashed everything they once stood for but I think they got the big picture. Nebraska fans won't let their team and school become complacent. Awesome stuff. The other 9 schools have to step up as well. Bielema has already made some comments about Urban higher from what I hear so It sounds like he's ready. That's one further amazing thing about Fitzgerald and Northwestern. That school is at damn near Ivy League status and he can put together teams like he has. That's a mark of great coaching. As a side note, I'm not getting the fear of Hoke. I'm not that impressed with him yet... definitely not scared. Hoke can apparently recruit. And if you can recruit then you're going to win your share of games no matter who the coach is unless you're Notre Dame Quote Link to comment
Forge
chalk up another loss every season. With his coaching and recruiting, I see another team stompoing us every time we play them (see texas). We will probably loose the McMullen recruit from Ohio now as well. Overall, this is horrible for the Huskers. Best coaches in Big10 this year? 1. Hoke - We lost 2. Fitzgerald - We lost 3. Bielema - We lost add in Urban, and now we will have 4 loses per year on average. All 4 can out-coach us and out-recruit us, save for Fitz recruiting (for now atleast). Worst Coaches in the B1G this year? 1. Dantonio-We won 2. Bradley-We won 3. Ferentze-We won 4. Fickell-We won Yep. Using your logic we should just discontinue our football program as we'll not win a single game next year. Would you stop putting words in peoples mouths. I never said that. I was saying this is going to make it tougher for us. If you fail to see that, than thats your own issue that I wont try to change. sigh, some people... I was just using your reasoning! Good grief! I was going to ask if you were a Husker fan or from Ohio State? Those men ARE good coaches but to say that just because Meyer is now the new coach we'll automatically lose 4 games? Good grief! How can you make such statements??? please show me where i said we will "automatically" lose those games? I said on average, how does that equate to "automatically"? On average, we would lose 2-3 games in the B12 due to two teams able to do the things i listed above..... 2008 we lost to Stoops, Leach and Pinkel (didnt play Brown). Would argue against Pinkle as better than Bo 2009 we lost to Brown, Leach. Beat Stoops. 2010 we lost to Brown, Stoops. We have a track record of getting beat by better coahes with better recruits. Its not rocket scinece, most teams with better coaches and better recruits win the games. Granted, not every game goes as planned, but we are looking at averages not automatics. You think it will be any different with Meyers? do you only see things in black and white? Why is there no grey with some Husker fans? Quote Link to comment
mrandyk
I absolute despise Meyer. In 09 he needed to quit to focus on his health and family when really he was probably just looking at how his team was going to fall apart the next year losing key players and coordinators. He had second thoughts and decided he would just stick it out another year and see how things pan out. In 10 the team lost 5 games and the future didn't look bright. Instead of trying to sell those who follow the program on the idea of rebuilding he decides instead to say again that he needs to retire because of his health and family issues. So in 11 it's time for him to stay home with his family and focus on getting healthy, right? No. He takes a job at ESPN where he has to be on the road every single weekend plus all the time they want to have him in the studio and then accepts the head coaching position at Ohio State at the end of the year. I would've been completely accepting of his excuse the second time if he had actually stayed in the studio and spent more than just a single offseason away from the game. He is nothing but a weasel. He saw his program about to go through a rebuilding process and decided to just jump ship for excuses he has completely contradicted. f#*k Urban Meyer, I hope he crashes and burns at Ohio State (though I would wish that upon just about anyone who took the job there). 1 Quote Link to comment

Muck
Don't forget Kirk Ferentz. Before the Urban contract Ferentz was the highest paid coach in the conference. So he must be the best, right? Of course he's the best...and he has like 34 Big Ten coach of the year trophies to prove it. Quote Link to comment
C N Red
If by better you mean the B1G having there athlete arrest rates go up being a good stat, then ya, the B1G is better with Meyer. Quote Link to comment

JTrain
You guys are clueless. Ferentz is nothing but a figurehead. This is the real force behind the Iowa football juggernaut: Quote Link to comment

They were complaining about how the league was conspiring against them with the schedule from day 1 (despite getting Ohio State at home the first two seasons per their request). Year two it was the "Big Ten Media"'s fault for intentionally keeping them from winning the national title because the "Big Ten Media" didn't want them to upstage the other conference members. The list goes on and on... Quote Link to comment
zoogs
Woody, I gotta ask, just what are they spelling in this picture? O...U...A...O? huh. Also, if you could make it about 50% smaller, much appreciated, thanks! Quote Link to comment
Foppa
Every player currently at OSU knows and was recruited exclusively for the offense that Urban Meyer ran prior, right? Quote Link to comment
