CockInYourEar
Ellis Johnson, our former DC/Asst Head Coach, is leaving to be the Head Coach at Southern Miss. I wonder how this might effect the betting patterns for the current over/under's. http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/2011/ellis-johnson-southern-miss/ Quote Link to comment

According to the article Johnson will still coach the bowl game. Nebraska's DC won't. Quote Link to comment
CockInYourEar
I hope he does stay for the bowl game, but my gut is telling me that he'll go to work over there right away. Quote Link to comment
NUance
Johnson was one of the Gamecocks' best coaches. Maybe the best of the bunch. You guys will have a tough time replacing him. Quote Link to comment

Absolutely. Some of us were hoping he might stick around to succeed Spurrier . I figured somebody would tap him for HC before that could happen. Sometimes I hate being right. Quote Link to comment
JJ Husker
That doesn't make us quite even. Get your front D 4 to leave also, then we'll be about even. Quote Link to comment

knapplc
I would have been shocked if he had. Very few stick around their last job. Pelini did to help LSU win a title, but other than that, it doesn't seem worth it. Quote Link to comment
Excel
Was Carl that great a Coordinator or was he kept around out of pure nepotism? I never got a feel for you all's opinion just because this year's defense was kind of off but it looks like he had a few good ones in the past. Quote Link to comment
The Dude
We still have Bo Pelini without Carl in the way. Advantage: Huskers. Quote Link to comment

It's hard to say whose defense we were seeing out there. I've heard conflicting reports about how much control Bo/Carl had from year to year, game to game and even in games. Nobody really knows. We'll find out soon enough, I suppose. Quote Link to comment

I think nepotism granted him some opportunities faster that other coaches would have had to work their way toward. But I always felt like Carl brought a lot to the table. Off the field he was kind of a wash. He had some "dipping his pen in the wrong ink" issues and that situation with the camera after the aTm game was a little embarrassing. But his demeanor with the press and fans overall one could argue was better than his brother's. Carl is a big loss for us but I don't think as big of a loss as Johnson will be for the c$%ks. CockInYourEar
Ellis absence will be felt, but at least the defensive position coaches believe in the system that got us here (4-2-5) and mixing up a little (3-3-5), so they won't try to make any changes for the bowl game. Lorenzo Ward will be calling the shots, but I don't know if he'll be in the booth or down on the field. I'm sure Ward will do a good job, but I think the defense is going to have to count on athleticism a lot this game, until they hammer some things out. Quote Link to comment
knapplc
The fact that Carl and Ellis won't be on the sidelines hurts a little in-game, but those players know their roles by now, and there are enough coaches on each team to coach these guys up during the game that the impact will be minimal. I don't see it as an advantage either way. Quote Link to comment

You've stolen Nebraska's Peso defense. Quote Link to comment
