The Dude
@joshharveyscout change coming at LB? Zaire anderson and david santos worked with the 1s today. #huskers #nebraska Looks like he goes on to say Zaire and Santos are working the Will spot, and Compton the other LB spot. Doesn't look good for Whaley, but I don't think Compton is going to lose his job. Nor do I think he should. But that's just me. I think he's been our best player in the front 7 so far. cscott2win
Right now we're ranked 98th in total defense at 456.5 yards, and ranked 85th allowing 28 points per game..... Basically a product of recruiting classes that range in the mid 20 to 30 or worse range. Pretty hard to chase down a Camaro with a Rambler even if the Rambler's parked in the right spot! NebraskaHarry
We are slow at LB.. which is why guys like Banderas (110 meter hurdler), Afalava, Rose, and Newby are critical players and recruits for the future. Quote Link to comment
lo country
Here is some more of the changes in the article here. Looks like the coaches "finally" realize we need speed. http://sports.omaha.com/2012/09/10/practice-report-910-defensive-changes/ Quote Link to comment
lo country
Here is a break down from "Hail Varsity" that explains some of our break downs. Pretty good read. http://hailvarsity.com/2012/09/tale-of-the-tape-ucla/ Really shows our lack of speed and issues with scheme as well as inability to adjust. Quote Link to comment

Looks like the coaches "finally" realize we need speed. http://sports.omaha....ensive-changes/ This is what bothers me about our defense: http://sports.omaha....ensive-changes/ Anderson, a junior college star who talked to reporters for the first time Monday night, said he’s been working one-on-one with head coach Bo Pelini to get up to speed on NU’s complex, check-heavy defense. I agree. Really seems you have to have a great deal of experience/football sense (David) or be in the system several years (2+) before you really "get" the system. As I understand it, the system is VERY dependent on every person knowing their position in the particular defensive call. If one guy misses a call or read, the whole D suffers. Maybe it is time to simplify the schemes. The Hail Varsity article said that UCLA adjusted to the zone read by having the DE just "crash" on the QB. It worked. Two sacks (one was a safety) that effectively turned the tide. They adjusted, and Beck went into Tom Brady panic mode, going all drop back pocket passer with a decisive, quick kitchen sink bum rush defense coming at our no depth O line that had to be worn out by then. Guy needs to learn how to defeat the rush with screens, draws and some dump passes our we are doomed. Guarantee no team is scared of Martinez arm, even after SMU. 8 in the box and rush him like crazy. Year 2 (actually on 3) and we still have no real plan to defeat a team committed to stopping Martinez from running. Quote Link to comment

Beck learned under Mangino, and Kansas ran those as bread and butter. Quote Link to comment
Enhance
Even seniority appears not to matter with this team. Ankrah, Meredith, Steinkuhler - all second year starters or more, all underwhelming. Quote Link to comment
