Hooked on Huskers
What a joke! The AP is just awful. that's right! Myself, AP poll didn't pay attention at all. The true poll is Coaches poll. And Sagarin poll too. Quote Link to comment
tmfr15
You don't need to have played football to make observations about it. You don't need to have played football to officiate it. You don't need to have played football in order to coach it. 3 Quote Link to comment
husker B-rent
You don't need to have played football to make observations about it. You don't need to have played football to officiate it. You don't need to have played football in order to coach it. It sure as hell helps though. I have never met a person that actually understands the deep down physical roots of football that never actually played it. That includes leach and mangino. 3 Quote Link to comment

Enhance
As much as people bag on sports broadcasters and sportswriters, they pay attention to this stuff for a living, and even if you disagree with their opinions, they're not idiots. In fact, they're a lot more knowledgeable than most posters here, maybe even the vast majority. They make bad and good decisions just like the rest of us. 1 Quote Link to comment
tmfr15
It may add to your knowledge to have played football, but I don't think it gives you a major advantage over those people who have not. If you go down the vein of you have to played it to understand it, then you have to have played college ball to understand it, major college ball, as a starter, as a starter with significant playing time, etc. etc. Even then, it would be like, "Hey, you played DB, there is no way you would understand the battle in the trenches." Or "Hey, you have never been a kicker, so you don't know the pressures that we kickers face." etc. etc. 1 Quote Link to comment

You don't need to have played football in order to coach it. And you didn't have to play football to make comments on a message board. Quote Link to comment
tmfr15
Why don't we just institute the rule that you have to have played professional football, and be a major contributor, in order comment on this message board? That should thin the ranks, to about zero. Quote Link to comment
