kchusker_chris
We have issues playing away from home. However since 2009 we are 4-6 on grass, and 9-4 on turf when we're away. 2 of those grass wins could very easily have been losses. 2 of the turf losses were in the championship games, both of which we were certainly in. This could easily be 2-8 on grass and 11-2 on turf. We still have to go to Northwestern (grass), MSU (grass), and Iowa (turf). Does the way we practice change for these games or do we spend all week on turf? We certainly seemed slower against UCLA/Ohio State. Does it change the game? GRASS 2-1 1-2 (barely escaped Iowa St.) 1-1 (close call to Penn St.) 0-2 TURF 3-1 (championship game) 4-1 (championship game) 2-2 0-0 Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
Ohio St is turf. Do we still even have a grass practice field? Quote Link to comment
knapplc
The eastern-most field in the practice complex is grass, and they've been working on it during recent practices. But I agree that there may be a problem with too much grass. Quote Link to comment
Comish
I agree this is an underrated factor. We never seem to play as well on grass...... Quote Link to comment

"The artificial surface was replaced with natural grass in 1990. The Buckeyes currently play on P.A.T. a natural grass surface with a state-of-the-art draining system that keeps the field playable even under the worst conditions" Quote Link to comment
Lyons in the Sea of Red.
Ohio st was grass until they smoked it all... Quote Link to comment
kchusker_chris
Grasping straws here a bit don't ya think? not at all, there's certainly a trend, and it impacts the speed of the game. Footwear is different. Even how our CBs back peddal & rotate their hips in cleats on grass changes slightly. It wasn't much of a factor in the Big 12 because most fields were turf. However the B1G seems to be split much more evenly grass-to-turf. We aren't used to it. It's no different than us adding sand to our field to speed up play, or removing it to slow down an opposing team. Quote Link to comment
gobiggergoredder
Grass has a tendency to make you throw picks, fumble or even participate in bonehead penalties. Studies also show it is more difficult to tackle on grass. Too much grass alright. Time to pass brother. 3 Quote Link to comment

I did a google search and went to that link and found the exact quote you pasted here. Then at the bottom it says "going into the 2007 season" and so on, and that's when it was replaced. But c'mon KC, didnt notice the lack of grass stains? Oh wait, nobody was tackled. Never mind. Quote Link to comment

Because I like to channel my anger into a productive line of sunshine-pumping posts in a troll-hunting, derp-squashing effort on Huskerboard. Quote Link to comment
