Muck
After the two new members were announced I went back and checked to see how their recruiting has compared to the rest of the B1G. I added up all of the recruits from the 2010-current classes (2010 being the earliest year that will still have players around in 2014 when they start conference play). I thought some posters here might find it interesting. (* rankings are from Rivals) Edit: Fixed a couple of errors in the chart 1 Quote Link to comment
caveman99
Muck appreciate you putting this together. Does this include the 2013 commits that haven't signed yet? Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
They should be able to compete with the middle of the pack. This also shows that our recruiting has been decent compared to the conference. Quote Link to comment
Stumpy1
Look at the number of recruits that we have taken compared to tOSU and Mich. tOSU is tops no matter what, but I think we would be ahead of Mich if we had the number of recruits that tOSU even had over the time period Quote Link to comment

Higher numbers also increases your percentage to get ample talent on the field, the failure ratio gets watered down. Those kinds of numbers over 3 years is tough unless you are making room on the roster, a whole different debate to have. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
I noticed that also. So....are they basically doing what we have complained that the SEC teams do? How do you get more than 25 per year average? Quote Link to comment

How do you get more than 25 per year average? Kids have been leaving that school left and right. based on the coaching changes. an extreme amount of attrition. No one really has been forced out. They are a lot of things. SEC like in terms of recruiting is not one of them. Quote Link to comment
Muck
Muck appreciate you putting this together. Does this include the 2013 commits that haven't signed yet? It includes everyone who was a '13 verbal commitment as of the middle of last week. So anyone who has verballed since last Wednesday or so isn't included, and of course the numbers will change a bit over the next couple of months. They should be able to compete with the middle of the pack. This also shows that our recruiting has been decent compared to the conference. The reason I initially took a look at the numbers was because there seems to be a feeling among Rutgers fans that they are going to dominate the middle of the B1G and one of the reasons given for that idea is that their recruiting 'much better' than the Sparty, Iowa, & Wisconsins of the league. Contrary to their belief their recruiting is right around the bottom of the mid pack teams so 'dominating' said teams is likely to be more difficult than they think. Conversely the Maryland fans are very negative about the Terrapins ability to compete in the B1G, yet their recruiting rankings have been almost identical to those of Rutgers. I noticed that also. So....are they basically doing what we have complained that the SEC teams do? How do you get more than 25 per year average? Remember that Hoke & Co pushed kids to give their verbal early in the process giving them a larger number of kids so far in this class than other schools. For example right now they have 23 commits, Ohio State has 17 & Nebraska 15. If you guys end up with a 25 person class this year you will have 82 total since '10. The reason schools can end up averaging more than 25 per year is attrition (injuries, transfers etc). Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
When I asked my questions I didn't realize this year's commitments were included. Makes sense now. Quote Link to comment
jamrinelli
Looking at Rivals today I am seeing that we are 5th out of 12 teams when it comes to recruiting. If you add Rutgers into the mix we are 6th. What do we need to do to pick things up recruiting. I am one that believes that stars doesn't tell the whole story but it would be nice to get some guys with some raw talent almost ready to play!! Here is the list that I saw as of today: Rank School Total 5-starCommits 4-starCommits 3-starCommits Avg Points #1 Michigan 22 1 13 7 3.64 2510 #2 Ohio State 18 0 12 5 3.61 2281 #3 Wisconsin 18 0 4 11 3.06 1449 #4 Illinois 24 0 2 15 2.79 1441 #5 Nebraska 16 0 4 11 3.19 1376 #6 Northwestern 20 0 1 14 2.84 1365 #7 Michigan State 14 0 2 12 3.14 1223 #8 Penn State 13 0 4 6 3.17 1131 #9 Indiana 16 0 4 6 2.93 1127 #10 Iowa 15 0 1 13 3 1095 #11 Minnesota 12 0 0 10 2.83 780 #12 Purdue 11 0 1 7 2.9 64 Quote Link to comment

We are ranked 31st in their team ratings, but are 18th with Scout. 247 composite averages all of the services and we are 3rd in the Big Ten. That is probably the test indicator... http://247sports.com/Season/2013-Football/CompositeTeamRankings Quote Link to comment
