Guy Chamberlin
So which Nebraska players were a major factor in the Super Bowl? I'm thinking Roger Craig and Vince Ferragamo. Then I start drawing blanks. Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
Mike Rucker and Mike Minter started on Carolina's defense in the 02-03 Super Bowl vs the Patriots. That game was a defensive struggle through 3 quarters, so I would assume they were a factor. Russ Hochstein started on New England's championship teams didnt he? Quote Link to comment
Nexus
Not a major factor, but Irving Fryar scored the lone TD for the Pats vs. the Bears in the '86 Super Bowl. Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
I would assume there are a number of players on this list that played major rolls in their Super Bowls. I'll highlight just a few that stick out. Former Husker wingback and Buffalo Bill running back Nate Turner started Nebraska’s streak in 1993. Even though he did not play in that Super Bowl, he was on the Bills’ official roster. The streak has continued with San Diego’s and Oakland’s John Parrella (two Super Bowls), Pittsburgh’s Brenden Stai and Donta Jones, Green Bay’s Calvin Jones and Tyrone Williams (two Super Bowls), Denver’s Neil Smith (two Super Bowls) and Tony Veland, Atlanta’s Michael Booker, Tennessee’s Doug Colman, St. Louis’/Seattle’s Grant Wistrom (three Super Bowls), New York Giants’ Christian Peter, Oakland’s Eric Johnson and Adam Treu, New England’s Russ Hochstein (three Super Bowls), Carolina’s Mike Minter and Mike Rucker, Seattle’s Josh Brown, Chicago’s Mike Brown, New England’s Le Kevin Smith, Arizona’s Ralph Brown, Indianapolis’ Cody Glenn, New Orleans’ Carl Nicks and Scott Shanle, Green Bay’s Brandon Jackson and the New York Giants’ Prince Amukamara last year. Probably more but I just can't remember how much some of these guys were playing at the time. Quote Link to comment
skersfan
That is pretty kool. Gives me something to harass my pro Patriots fan who says we are crap. I think the draft number speaks volumes about Nebraska and its history. Thanks for sharing the information. Quote Link to comment
jsneb83
Neil Smith, Russ Hochstein, Correll Buckhalter Quote Link to comment
jonnyhuska
"According to Dan Apple, the assistant director of communications for Florida's football program who has compiled the data, at least one former Cornhusker has been on one of the teams in the big game for each of the past 20 years. That is the longest streak by any college in the country." http://www.thepostgame.com/blog/dish/201301/nebraska-has-longest-super-bowl-streak-far How bout that.. Quote Link to comment
walksalone
Some guy called up the Dan Patrick Show and gave that as "Stat of the Day"... Quote Link to comment
Internet Smartguy
In the 20 year streak here are the former Huskers that started a Super Bowl: Brenden Stai – 1995 Tyrone Williams – 1996, 1997 Neil Smith – 1997 Michael Booker – 1998 Grant Wistrom – 1999, 2001, 2005 Adam Treu – 2002 John Parrella – 2002 Russ Hochstein – 2003 Mike Minter – 2003 Mike Rucker – 2003 Josh Brown – 2005 Scott Shanle – 2009 Carl Nicks – 2009 I also believe Ralph Brown was the starting Nickel Back in 2008.
