ShawnWatson
What the hell was the guy taking the video thinking? "Hey son git in the mobile-truck we got to take a movie picture of the fertilizer plant on fire." Quote Link to comment
walksalone
Reported that the plant had over 50,000 pounds of anhydrous ammonia on hand. For comparison, the bombing in Oklahoma City 20 years ago was about 4800 pounds. damn Quote Link to comment
zoogs
Is that a remote area? If it is I wonder how well equipped (if at all) it was to handle a medical emergency of even within an order of magnitude of this. I hope they are able to get all the help they need. Quote Link to comment
strigori
West is about 20 miles outside Waco. From what I have seen, they have more than enough emergency crews on hand. It was reported that there were at least 6 medical helicopters, and the FAA closed the airspace for all non emergency aircraft. Quote Link to comment
tschu
Has anyone else reported the 70 deaths? The 70 deaths figure came from the West, Texas mayor who threw out an estimate of 60-70 dead. I don't think we'll have any sort of accurate estimate until tomorrow. Insane Quote Link to comment

For comparison, the bombing in Oklahoma City 20 years ago was about 4800 pounds. Anhydrous ammonia isn't explosive. It isn't even necessarily flammable as it has a flash point of like 1200 degress. Ammonium nitrate was used in Oklahoma City. 1 Quote Link to comment
KJ.
The good thing is that the building was already on fire. So you have to think evacuation had already started. Quote Link to comment
