Roy CO HSKR
I am attempting to guess at the 2006 Spring Fling starters. I invite corrections to any errors I've made or disagreements as to my picks: TE (Y): 11 Matt Herian***, 6-5, 240, Sr., Pierce, Neb. 81 Josh Mueller*, 6-5, 265, Jr., Columbus, Neb. LT: 54 Chris Patrick, 6-4, 285, Jr., Ithaca, Mich. LG: 65 Greg Austin**, 6-1, 290, Sr., Cypress, Texas C: 50 KURT MANN*, 6-4, 290, Sr., Grand Island, Neb. RG: 61 Mike Huff, 6-4, 300, So., Ralston, Neb. - OR - RT: 70 Matt Slauson, 6-5, 340, So., Colorado Springs, Colo. WR (X): 87 Nate Swift, 6-2, 195, So., Hutchinson, Minn. WR (Z): 83 TERRENCE NUNN*, 6-0, 185, Jr., Houston, Texas FB: 41 Dane Todd**, 5-10, 235, Sr., Lincoln, Neb. IB: 20 Marlon Lucky, 6-0, 210, So., North Hollywood, Calif. - or - QB: 13 Zac Taylor, 6-2, 210, SR., Norman, Okla. Defense OPEN DE: 44 JAY MOORE*, 6-4, 270, Sr., Elkhorn, Neb. LT: 54 Ola Dagundaro, 6-2, 290, Sr., Inglewood, Calif. RT: 94 Barry Cryer, 6-2, 275, Sr., Marrero, La. BASE DE: 90 ADAM CARRIKER**, 6-6, 280, Sr., Kennewick, Wash. SAM: LB: 34 STEWART BRADLEY**, 6-4, 240, Sr., Salt Lake City, Utah MIKE: 13 Corey McKeon, 6-1, 225, Jr., Naperville, Ill. WILL LB: 15 Steve Octavien, 6-0, 235, Sr., Naples, Fla. STRONG CB: 2 Cortney Grixby*, 5-9, 165, Jr., Omaha, Neb. FS: 31 Jackson, Leon, 6-2 210 So. Pasco, Wash. (Pasco) SS: 8 Andrew Shanle**, 6-1, 205, Sr., St. Edward, Neb. WEAK CB: 1 Zackary Bowman, 6-2, 190, Sr., Anchorage, Alaska Specialists PK: 29 Jordan Congdon, 5-11, 180, So., San Diego, Calif. P: 97 Dan Titchener, 6-0, 195, So., Cheyenne, Wyo. LSNAP: 92 LANE KELLY**, 6-4, 270, Sr., Omaha, Neb. KOR: 30 TIERRE GREEN*, 6-1, 200, Jr., Omaha, Neb. 20 Marlon Lucky, 6-0, 210, So., North Hollywood, Calif. PR: 2 Cortney Grixby, 5-9, 165, Jr., Omaha, Neb. 83 Terrence Nunn*, 6-0, 185, Jr., Houston, Texas HOLD: 8 Joe Ganz, 6-1, 200, So., Palos Heights, Ill. The Redshirt Frosh (Rfr.) I changed to Sophomores (So.). even though they may be shown as a year behind their actual class, because they had 3 yrs of eligibility left. Herian is listed as a Sr. next year for the same reason. Octavien, I presume still has 2 more years of eligibility. Also, I didn't take into account a third down pass rush lineup with Barry Turner or nickle and dime packages. The stars are from the 2005 lineup that I didn't change for letters earned. It looks like 5 seniors from next year's offense and 8 seniors from next year's defense will play their final year. DJR313
What about Andy Christiansen? J.B. Phillips? Don't you see Ashlee Palmer working into the mix at safety? Quote Link to comment
KansasHusker
leon jackson moved to WR...I see palmer starting at one of the safety positions. Quote Link to comment
HANC
I agree with most of your list.... You state 8 seniors on def. next year, but if Octavian gets a med., only 7 are listed according to your list..... The D looks loaded, because it doesn't take into account Green, Ruud, Turner, possibly Wali Muhammed.... and the incoming Palmer.... I look for Leon Jackson to stay on offense.... On offense, don't forget about Murtha..... He and Patrick battled, and Lydon has said that he hates it if he doesn't start....look for him to really work hard. Also, look for Brooks to make an impact next season.... He has a super build and should excel next year.... also, Mo Purify (not here in spring I believe) could make immediate impact.... I love Swift, Nunn, but won't be surprised if their PT doesn't drop off next year. Quote Link to comment
dbetz23
The thought of having a pro-calaber TE next year in Matt Harian makes me salivate. Quote Link to comment
Roy CO HSKR
HANC: Thanks for the correction on Octavien. How can Palmer step in with no experience? I'm unsure what they will do with Leon. Since our need will be more with the DBs than with WRs, I concluded he stays at FS. Patrick took over as a starter for Murtha late, but who knows for the future. Also, in addition to Muhammed, Suh has too much talent not to be a part of the DL picture. If that's so, it gives the coaches a little more opportunity to experiment with Turner as a speed rusher, aka Demorio! Then they could run a 5-2 on third and long. I presume that Andy Christiansen will be a backup and I see Phillips losing his starting status, as well. I'm most unconfortable with Grixby and Green on defense, but otherwise both the offense and defense should be improved due to experience and those coming off injuries. Congdon needed a little more strength, but he is still very young. I have no idea if the punter we have for next season has top caliber tools. Quote Link to comment
Touchdown Tommie
I think that Murtha will be starting next fall. Other than that, it looks pretty good to me. I hope that injuries don't plague the team...there are some real players that could do some good things. Speaking of next year's schedule....does anyone know when the Red/White game will be? I am hoping it is over my spring break this year and I want to plan to get down there for it. Who will be the other non-conference game? Any guesses?? Maybe Houston (LOL)???? Quote Link to comment
DJR313
What about Tierre Green moving to safety? There have been rumblings about that. Quote Link to comment
StillWatchin
Cody Glenn starting in 2006. Quote Link to comment
HuskersGJ
I don't know Pillen, I wouldn't be surprised on Glenn starting. why do you say no way? IMO he showed more flashes than Lucky this year. at the very least, even if Glenn doesn't start, he may see the field every bit as much as Lucky. unless Lucky returns kicks/punts, then he may see a little more time. Hunter94
unless Lucky or Glenn clearly distance each other, they both may share the duties at I back.........i think that may be the case........ hunter Quote Link to comment
NoLongerN
The RB position will be interesting to see. Cody seems like a more punishing runner with that Husker attitude I like, kinda reminds me of Roger Craig in that attitude. This guy will be a stud for his Junior and Senior year. To me, Lucky gives me more of a Johnny Rogers feel, he is speedy, illusive and a great cutter. I can see him in the backfield, but also a slot kind of guy also specializing in returns. There are advantages to both, so it will be interesting to see how the coaches get them both on the field. Glad to have them both and hopefully their will be even more options that come to the top.
