A final note on teaching: No matter how loudly or softly Pelini makes a point with a player — and we know Bo's no shrinking violet — he usually punctuates it with a tap on the helmet. That “stick with it” tap is often followed with praise a few plays later. It works.

Nice point. Reminds me of Aflava against Illinois. Missed a play, got his butt chewed, couple plays later, he made a big play.

Jordan Westerkamp said the punt return teams have been working on some scheme adjustments to try and provide more blocking for those returning punts. Westerkamp said Ameer Abdullah, Brandon Reilly and Terrell Newby have all been working with the punt return units.

Nebraska has been using a new football this spring from Adidas called the "Rifle Ball" and thus far the players really like it.

That is obviously a stock image as it doesn't look 20 years old and thus we would never use it.

I'm curious if we get some newer balls this year. I wonder if that was a Martinez thing (dang, broke my own rule) and if the new set of QBs have different preferences.

I am about 90% certain that the balls we have been using weren't "old", just extremely worn. They have buffers or sanders to wear down new balls straight out of the package and different quarterbacks like their footballs to feel different ways.

 

But it's not just a Martinez thing. Zac Taylor liked his footballs worn like that too. Looks like Zac Lee did as well:

One thing that caught my eye Monday was Maliek Collins (6-2, 300) playing some snaps at DE. Put a big move on a OT and went untouched to QB.

 

Thought ever seen Moss news that this could happen.

Armstrong said Taariq Allen and Adam Taylor stood out to him from Saturday’s practice in Memorial Stadium.

Randy Gregory, Michael Rose and Terrell Newby were among the players who weren’t at practice Monday. That’s not out of the ordinary sometimes during the spring when class conflicts sometimes hold players out of practices.

One of the plays that drew the biggest ‘ooohs’ from the team was when Ameer Abdullah caught a short pass and jukes Zaire Anderson in the open field. Abdullah has had a great spring thus far, and looks even quicker than he was a season ago.
