95huskers
So if we sweep Illinois, AND Minnesota sweeps Indiana we get #1 by tie-breaker I believe after my calculations. your calculations show Neb and Indiana having the exact same winning % right? so that goes to the tie breaker of runs given up right? As of 2012's procedures yes. I searched THE ENTIRE SITE of bigten.org, and couldn't find any updated. Quote Link to comment
95huskers
ive looked at to many numbers... we have the same winning % right now as they do against common opponents, but if they lose out and we win out, we would have them by 1 game against common opponents right? Quote Link to comment
95huskers
so, that would give neb the tie breaker you stated that in your calculations after you posted, i just had to figure it out in my tired slow mind Quote Link to comment
95huskers
the difference is the Iowa series which we only won 1 game, Indiana has won at least 2 in all common series, if they get swept by Minny then neb would have them by 1 game in common opponents. Quote Link to comment
hskrfan4life
Yea, but regardless WE NEED TO WIN OUT, and THEY NEED TO LOSE OUT. If those two things don't happen, none of this matters. 1 Quote Link to comment
hskrfan4life
I thought I would bold it for you, to help process it in your slow, tired mind. Quote Link to comment
95huskers
absolutely, just wanted to understand if we had a chance at all... but you are right, one game at a time and pray for losses for hoosiers Quote Link to comment

hskrfan4life
Man, now my head hurts. really hope we pull it off, and minny pulls it off. Quote Link to comment
StPaulHusker
Minnesota beat Indiana last night in 10. Huskers are only sitting 2 games behind the Hoosiers to get a share for the B1G title. Quote Link to comment
HUSKER FREAK
I kind of doubt Minnie will be able to sweep IU but you never know. We will also have a tough time sweeping as well , but it is a possibility. I am just glad that so far Erstad has been able to shut the people up that have been calling for his head and saying he never should have been hired. He clearly isn't in over his head and we are lucky to have him here again. Quote Link to comment
VectorVictor
Guys--I don't believe we're looking at this right. Look at the tie breaker rule again: 2. In the event these two teams divide a series between themselves, the team with the best winning percentage against all teams ending the season (tied or not) in positions 1-2-3-4-5-6 in the final conference standings will receive the higher seeding spot. So look at the series again: Indiana 2-1 vs. Michigan 3-0 vs. Ohio State ? (Tied for 6th) 3-0 vs. Iowa ? (Tied for 6th) 3-0 vs. Michigan State (Not Top 6) 2-1 vs. Illinois 3-0 vs. Purdue (Not Top 6) 3-0 vs. Penn State (Not Top 6) 0-1 vs. Minnesota 4-3 .5714285714285714 (Not including tOSU or Iowa) 7-3 .70000 (If Iowa gets 6th) 7-3 .70000 (If Iowa gets 6th) Nebraska 1-2 vs. Iowa ? (Tied for 6th) 3-0 vs. Ohio State ? (Tied for 6th) 3-0 vs. Minnesota 1-2 vs. Northwestern (Not Top 6) 2-1 vs. Michigan 3-0 vs. Penn State (Not Top 6) 3-0 vs. Michigan State (Not Top 6) 1-0 vs. Illinois 6-1 .8571428571428571 (Not including tOSU or Iowa) 7-3 .70000 (Iowa gets 6th) 9-1 .90000 (tOSU gets 6th) If tOSU gets 6th, then we win the tiebreaker and the #1 seed. So go tOSU...? If Iowa gets 6th place, then both IU and DoNU are tied, so we go to the next step in the tiebreaker, which is looking at common opponents, as you did above already. Common Opponents: Indiana 2-1 vs. Michigan 3-0 vs. Ohio State 3-0 vs. Iowa 3-0 vs. Michigan State 2-1 vs. Illinois 3-0 vs. Purdue 3-0 vs. Penn State 0-1 vs. Minnesota Percentage = 16/21 = 76.1904762% Nebraska 1-2 vs. Iowa 3-0 vs. Ohio State 3-0 vs. Minnesota 1-2 vs. Northwestern 2-1 vs. Michigan 3-0 vs. Penn State 3-0 vs. Michigan State 1-0 vs. Illinois Percentage = 16/21 = 76.1904762% So, we'd go to Step 4: If the teams are still tied, seeding will be determined by the team that allowed the fewest number of runs in conference games. If the two teams have not played all 24 conference games or an equal number of games, then to use this procedure, it is necessary to move back to a point in the season where the two teams played an equal number of games (i.e., 23, 22, 21, etc.). And that has yet to be determined until IU and DoNU play through their series. But, as added above, this is all rendered moot if DoNU drops a game to Illinois or IU wins one game. Danny Bateman
Yep. So basically we're sitting pretty. We win more against Illinois to lock up the #2 and if by some small miracle Minny completes a sweep of those big crimson turds and we win out, we get #1 by owning several of the tiebreakers. Good spot to be in! I honestly could care less if we get the 1 seed since it's not that big of a deal anyway, but it'd still be pretty neat. Quote Link to comment
