Mavric
The Lane Hovey do-it-yourself story began long before the receiver ever started climbing the Nebraska football depth chart or got the call Saturday night to help the Huskers at Fresno State. It started after Hovey came out of his high school senior season with nothing more than interest from some non-scholarship NCAA Division III programs in Iowa. “I didn’t know the recruiting process,” Hovey said. “I didn’t really get my name out there.” To do so, and with the clock running, Hovey took some game film, sat down with a friend and created his own highlight tape. He sent it to both Nebraska and Iowa that January, knowing both Big Ten schools had good histories with their walk-on programs. Then Hovey waited. All the way until May 1. The national cutoff date for academic financial aid. And that’s when the first contact came from Jeff Jamrog, the Nebraska assistant athletic director for football operations. “Things shook out where I ended up here, and I think it’s definitely where I’m meant to be,” Hovey said. The Dude
Hope he can provide some quality depth. Saturday may have been a fluke, but he's already ahead of every Nebraska WR not named Bell or Westerkamp in receiving yards. Quote Link to comment
suh_fan93
That is a great story. Even though I was only watching on tv I thought he looked fairly fast. Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
All I kept saying was "who the hell is Lane Hoovey?" Quote Link to comment
classof93
Sat behind his folks on the flight back from Fresno. They are great people that were super excited about their sons performance. I look forward to more slant patterns from Lane. Quote Link to comment
The Dude
I imagine he's going to get plenty more opportunities with Burtch being out for the season. Quote Link to comment
husker B-rent
He impressed me. A more athletic Todd peterson Quote Link to comment
RedRex
Guy looks good so far. How the hell did Ferentz let this one get away when Iowa has been fretting lack of receivers for a few years? Quote Link to comment
Moiraine
He impressed me. A more athletic Todd peterson A high IQ guy. A real team player. A less athletic Kenny Bell. 1 Quote Link to comment
SouthAfricanHusker
He impressed me. A more athletic Todd peterson Thanks for following the rules. White players can only be compared to other white players. In all seriousness he seemed to have more speed than Todd. Quote Link to comment

Or maybe just who he reminded me of due to size and style of play and absolutely zero to do with race. But what do I know. Quote Link to comment
Danimal
With Turner, Reilly, and Burtch out it's nice to get another wr in the mix. We need to somebody other than our big two of Bell and Westerkamp to develop as a dependable target. Maybe Hovey will be that guy. Quote Link to comment

The Dude
But in all seriousness, he reminds me of a hybrid of Jordy Nelson and Wes Welker. Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
Who's the guy that always gets pissed about *accurate* white receiver stereotyping? He's gonna be pissed when he sees all this. Quote Link to comment
