HuskerfaninOkieland
I could agree Nebraska is not currently an elite program. But we have the last two coaches to thank for that. Quote Link to comment
hskrpwr13
Snore. Its easy to make the same arguments about why NU can't stay/return to national relevancy that others have made since Osborne left. He's not wrong for stating the job has a built in disadvantage, and Husker fans aren't wrong for wanting that disadvantage to be overcome. He's correct that the job is probably more like top 25 due to location than top 5/10, but that won't mean the correct coach can't make it seem like a better job. Quote Link to comment
HuskerPowerVA
Some of his points are currently accurate as much as it sucks to admit it. However, Saban resurrected Alabama as one of the best jobs in the country and a lot of people thought it had slipped from elite status before his arrival. Quote Link to comment
onlyHskrfaninIL
I'm sure he's partially right. But Nebraska is still unique. If Illinois has to pay to get rid of a coach like Zook or whatever, the talk is often about the money it costs. At Nebraska, the money is an afterthought and it's all about doing what it takes to be great. That level of fan support is pretty unique and pretty valuable. Quote Link to comment
The King
Funny, the other day when it was announced, Twitter was saying how we were one of the top 10 jobs in the country still and it was amazing that Michigan, Florida, Nebraska, Texas, USC (5 of the top 10 programs) have had openings so close to each other. From much bigger reporters. Next. Quote Link to comment

huskerSoldier321
The Historical value, finance and large fan base I would say Nebraska is among the top programs for a coach to win glory. Quote Link to comment
strigori
Garbage. First off, remember that that website is an SEC homer angle. The owner would put at least 10 SEC teams in the top 15 best jobs. And was arguing on twitter that Ole Miss and Miss State are better jobs. To take shots at his points. 1 - Not having close recruiting is new because? Did Nebraska lose several million people in the last decade? And while Michigan and other rust belt schools are absolutely hurt by the movement of the population south, nothing has changed here. Other than a string of coaches who do not seem to want to use the old formula of having to develop players, and actually have a decent number of Nebraska kids on the roster to help fuel the passion. Don't feed me the trash that Baylor and TCU can compete and we can't. Its just attitude from people in the warm sunny regions that can't comprehend that anyone lives where it snows. 2 - Sure, everyone is on TV. But there is still a difference between ABC or ESPN and ESPNU or CBSSN. And not all facilities are equal. Not quite as massive a gap as in the past, but come on, there is still a giant gap between the big spender programs and everyone else. Quote Link to comment
IvabigN
Serious question What coach of any worth would come here knowing that 9 wins isn't enough to save his job along with the built in disadvantages to getting top recruits? The coach will have a tough time winning next year so basically he'll be expected to win at least 10 games and a big ten title within 3 years to keep his job - Quote Link to comment
irafreak
And TCU and Baylor could never be good football programs with Texas and Texas A&M in the state with them. Kansas State is in podunk land with no football talent and an outdated fossil of a coach... Always excuses. Nebraska has rich tradition. A wealthy and supportive fanbase. Up to date facilities. In a power 5 conference. Nebraska is a desirable job. In 2003-2004 it wasn't...because we had a buffoon leading the charge. As a coach you work under the AD. Not wanting to work for Pederson played a big factor...coaches just aren't going to come out and say that. It's called professionalism. Quote Link to comment
