Tressel agent: No Nebraska contact with former Ohio State coach

By Sam McKewon / World-Herald staff writer

The agent of former Ohio State football coach and current Youngstown State President Jim Tressel said in a phone interview Tuesday he has not received calls from Nebraska, which just fired Bo Pelini Sunday.

There has been to much smoke around this particular subject.

IF JT is not the man... I'm sure his agent, and himself would be sick and tired of the phone ringing off the hook all day long...

Why wouldn't he himself just come out and say that he hasnt been contacted nor would he want to be for the job etc etc.

There are so many cons to him coaching here (for him, that is). He's coached exactly 1 year outside of the state of Ohio. He was born there. He went to school and played football there. He coached there. His wife went to school there. He's already a multi-millionaire. He's president at one of the schools he coached at. He's 61.

If JT wanted to coach again where would he want to coach? I think Nebraska is a fit. Opposite B1G division of OSU. I don't think he would go to the MAC or any other conference outside the B1G. I don't see a better fit if he wants to coach again, which I am uncertain of.

My question, if Tressel is the President of a university and no longer has any interest in getting back into coaching, as some have alluded, why would he have an agent? Maybe it is a dumb question, but it doesn't really make any sense to me.

I'd have to assume he still gets contacted to do a variety of things outside the scope of his employment as a university president. His agent doesn't necessarily have to field only football related business; it could be speaking engagements, book offers, commercials, etc. Someone that gets contacted on a fairly regular basis for items like these usually have a professional that handles these things, including negotiations for fees. Coach Osborne still has an agent even; I think we can all agree he never plans on coaching again: http://www.sportsspeakers360.com/speaker/tom-osborne.php.
