Strange election

Recommended Posts

I must say, this is quite possibly the strangest set of front runners for President I have ever witnessed. I'm not necessarily saying it's bad....(well, some are, but there might actually be someone good come out of this group).

Trump.....town idiot. Not much else needs to be said about him. He just needs to go away.

Sanders.....Admitted socialist that looks more like some mad scientist that crawled out of his basement to show the world what he has discovered. I do like how he must now be spending money on someone actually combing his hair. Colonel Sanders looks more Presidential than Bernie Sanders.

Fiorina.....Definately looks the part of a President but has absolutely no political back ground or experience. Definitely has experience running a large organization.

Clinton.....Well, that name alone makes me not interested but she is definitely the most polished politician in the group....not necessarily a good thing. She obviously is good at saying all the right things to get her base frothing at the mouth.

Carson.....Definitely successful at bringing himself out of poverty as a kid. Looks Presidential and is very smart. Not much of a ball of fire in front of people in debates.

Surely someone is going to come out of this group and show me they deserve to be President and can do the job. But, this group definitely is different than any other Presidential election candidates.

People can disagree about policy til they're blue in the face and it doesn't really matter, but Bernie Sanders is the only generally honest candidate that exists. This has even been uttered out of the mouths of his opponents.

I'll give him that. He is honest. I'm not going to vote for him....but he says exactly what he thinks.

I could say the same thing about Trump. He doesn't hold any punches and says exactly what he thinks. I'm not going to vote for him either.

In America, if I understand it correctly, anyone making over ~120K pays zero income tax on what exceeds that amount. Bernie's tax policies are mainly geared toward millionaires/billionaires/Corpoarate America/Wall St. speculation(Tobin or "Robin Hood tax"), but he may try to implement a progressive tax beyond the 120K income. As far as I know, he wouldn't be raising taxes for anyone earning less than the 120K. But you'd have to go to his website to confirm.

I call BS on that.

Oops, you're right, I mixed up social security and income taxes. Here's what appears to be Bernie's plan for social security payroll taxes:

When most workers look at their pay stubs, they can see that the Social Security payroll tax rate is 12.4 percent – with the employee and employer each paying 6.2 percent. But many workers do not know that any annual wages above $106,800 are not taxed by Social Security. In other words, a worker who makes twice the Social Security wage cap – $213,600 per year – pays Social Security tax on only half of his or her earnings, and one who makes just over a million dollars per year pays the tax on only about a tenth.

Raising the Social Security cap – which would make some or all earnings above $106,800 subject to the Social Security tax – has gotten some attention as a way to help alleviate Social Security’s long-term budget shortfall. U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders plans to introduce legislation to keep the current cap at $106,800, but to also apply the Social Security payroll tax to earnings over $250,000. It is similar to previous bills and echoes a proposal by then-Senator Obama on the campaign trail in 2008. While this would leave those making between the current cap of $106,800 and the proposed cap of $250,000 paying the lowest rates, it would help secure the solvency of the program and avoid an increase in taxes on the middle class.

8. Expanding Social Security by lifting the cap on taxable income above $250,000. At a time when the senior poverty rate is going up, we have got to make sure that every American can retire with dignity and respect.

1. He will create a progressive estate tax on the top 0.3 percent of Americans who inherit more than $3.5 million. He will also enact a tax on Wall Street speculators...

As to income tax, it appears he hasn't completed his tax proposal, but he looks to be focusing on the top marginal bracket of > ~$400K from what is now ~39% to up around 50%:

Sanders said he is "working right now on a comprehensive tax package, which I suspect will, for the top marginal rates, go over 50 percent," though he wouldn't endorse a specific rate yet. He often points out that the top marginal rate exceeded 90 percent under Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower. http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2015-06-11/bernie-sanders-eyes-top-tax-rate-of-more-than-50-percent

Levity? It's a dog that looks like Trump.

I don't see you have many options on the Repub side--they're all pretty much carbon copies of each other, offering up the same ol' same ol' Repub schpeel, trickle down, yada yada yada, and their endless failed attacks abortion rights.

If nothing else, if you want to save social security for yourself or anyone close to you, you probably have to go Dem, because the Repubs want to gut that thing.

So, I'm supposed to like Sander's policies because you believe we don't have any other option?

Ummmm....no thanks.
