For a senior to-be QB that said, "treat me like a freshman," that gives me the impression he wasn't the most coachable up to that point, and I ask the question, since that day...has he proven himself to his teammates for him to be considered their 'captain'? Apparently not enough to be voted ahead of 4 other worthy teammates. I can't say I'm surprised he was left out, but it is interesting. It means less to me that he wasn't named captain, and more to me how Tommy leads the offense going forward and how his teammates follow his lead.

I knew before I opened this thread that some Husker fans would be botching about the choices.

Is anyone complaining? I see surprise that a fourth-year starting QB wasn't voted captain but I guess I don't see anyone complaining about it.

We have one person saying the captains aren't diverse and another saying Tommy needs to have a fire lit under his butt (clearly there's something wrong with a QB not named captain!111) because he wasn't made a captain.

 

It's okay for you to not care about these comments, fyi. Doesn't mean you need to try to tell anyone noticing them that they're imagining things. Maybe see what the people who made the comments say in response.

I think you should be the HR person for the board. I haven't seen much from you lately that isn't trying to correct someone's response to another.

I'm okay with you trying to argue that, but it doesn't apply here whatsoever. Mavric had just replied to me in similar fashion.

Except he doesn't do it all the time. So I don't know what he has to do with it?

 

Maybe I'm still sour from the Illinois game 2 years ago when it comes to you.

I'm saying Mavric was replying to myself and BigRedBuster similarly, so I don't see the issue in my replying to "someone's response to another."

 

Why do you remember so far back? That's just weird. I guess I was really annoying that day 'cause I have no idea what you're talking about. I have an argument with someone on here and a month later I don't recall/care and I'm fine with talking to them.

 

Edit: I had to look. THIS is what you remembered? I disagree with someone and was sarcastic. Not sure why it's such a big deal you still remember it.

I have a crazy memory. For whatever reason that day stuck with me when it comes to you. I'm not sure that's what it was that made me uptight. I think it was a culmination of what you were saying that day. It was a long time ago so I don't remember that specific post being the one to set me off. I thought I was much more harsh than that.

 

The reason I remember it, is because everyone jumped me for saying something...

There wasn't much more to it than what I posted above. You kinda flew off the handle but that's what people do in game threads which is why I had no memory of it.

Having the team vote for captains comes down to little more than a popularity contest. We'll know who's leading the team when we see it on the field.

Tommy was a captain in 2015, by team vote, after they knew him for a couple of years. So he must have proven something to them at that point, right?

 

Maybe this is a team revolt, and Tommy is uncoachable and the team doesn't like him anymore.

 

Or maybe he's just one of a number of leaders on this team, and we're blessed to have so many guys to choose from.

 

Depends on how you want to look at it.

Depends on how you want to look at it.

It does depend on how an individual wants to view it, I'm open to any interpretation, and I'm just giving an example of maybe how he was viewed, based on a quote I consider to be noteworthy. I'll also throw out that last year's senior class is probably closer to Tommy than maybe the latest two classes to enroll are. I've read where he is a leader and I've also heard otherwise, so again, depends on who you ask and what their personal experiences are. They also went from 6 captains to 4, I would imagine that plays a factor.

 

All I'm saying is there are reasons for him to be a captain, as well as reasons he wasn't voted as a captain, but in the end it's how the team responds to one another that will be most important - not any title.
