A better thing to look at is passing stats, because 3rd down is generally a passing stat, so that greatly reduces the noise. Or look at success rates, because that will rate your ability to stay on schedule for all downs, not just 3rd down. The real issue, and we've known this all season, is this team's pass defense is suspect. Quote Link to comment

Does anyone else find this post hilarious? What's wrong with counters? The buckeyes killed us with them. Quote Link to comment

True but it seems like the team has a mental block when it comes to 3rd down because they're so mentally weak overall. Quote Link to comment

What's wrong is thinking we can make ordinary suggestions to fix a gigantic mess. We might as well say they need to fix the offense, defense and special teams. Quote Link to comment
URSS
People have been ripping the linebackers. They may not be All-Americans but I would rip Diaco and his 3-4 defense assignments and game plan first. the three down linemen were double teamed most of the night and put little pressure on Barrett. Plays were being made past the Line of Scrimmage. Way too many yards after contact. Defensive backs playing loose and not playing the ball when running the pass routes with the receivers. The whole defense scheme is BS! Our offensive line is very weak. The left guard was not quick enough to even move his feet before getting beat by the defensive end- AND HE KNOWS THE SNAP COUNT!! There were far too many shoulder high tackles and missed tackles. Wrap their legs and they fall like a rock instead of surging forward for 3-4 more yards. I don't think the offensive coordinator is offensive enough to be a winner. NEXT WEEK WILL BE A GREAT WEEK SINCE WE WILL NOT GET BEAT!!!! ITS A BYE WEEK. 3 Quote Link to comment

These are HS level mistakes these guys are making. Poor tackling technique, very little gap control. Not sure what our DL are taught, but our principle there is if you are double teamed, get on your belly and make a pile for the back to run around at the DL and help the LB find the ball. We were simply getting pushed around, and Stoltenberg doesn't know how to break down and make an easy TFL. The 2 deep 15 yards away is clueless - what good are deep safeties if they don't know who to cover? McBride's philosophy would probably have been more effective - bring 5 or 6 from different places every down and play tight man. That way there isn't any question as who is covering who. Diaco just ain't the guy. 1 Quote Link to comment

Not to mention, the energy during the tunnel walk was lacking and the players didn't look near as pumped as usual. Imho, of course. And I heard Riley post game, and he obviously had no hope of winning (with his comments it was obvious). Under that leadership, I wouldn't expect them to be pumped or excited either.
