Gage County
Quote Three other college football coaches are in the $5 million club -- Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy, Illinois’ Lovie Smith, and Florida State’s Willie Taggart. So, 4-8 will get you top dollar in the B1G! Smith has done a bang up job at IL, 9 wins over the last 3 years. Bet no one is regretting that hire or its price tag. Quote Link to comment

Pretty sure he was talking about Lovie Smith's price tag, but I could be wrong. Quote Link to comment

He stuck around the league for awhile, but his performance as HC certainly wasn't worth $5 million. Although when you're Illinois football, you have to overpay to make the job attractive. I judge him more on his time at Chicago than the two year s#!t show that Tampa was. I know what you are saying but he was the biggest name Illinois was going to get and they had to overpay for him. 1 Quote Link to comment
Warrior
His pay is based on the type of money an SEC school was willing to pay him. Frost was going to earn that kind of money on the open market. Just like any thing involving money value is based on what people are willing to pay. 1 Quote Link to comment
Enhance
In Frost's case, he will eventually have to achieve a certain level of success on the field to match the price of his contract, but right now it's mostly about PR and AD revenue. He's helped make them oodles of money this past year and $5 million/year is a worthy investment. Lovie's was curious at the time and is now even more so. Quote Link to comment
