  1. Yeah. Now they only have like 34 commits with a max 25. They only have 29 commits that I see... Georgia has been pretty good about not over sighing like a lot of SEC schools do. They will take over 30 because they signed a very small class last year. 5-7 (because I don't care to look up the actual number) are early enrollees so they will count against last year. That was the big push they had for Johnson. They were hoping to get him in as an early enrollee so it didn't hurt/count against this class. Consider it the most "ethical" way to oversign without officially breaking any rules.
  2. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. if they can't cover him, won't he make a great WR? My thoughts! But then you don't have the athleticism to cover guys who are that good on other teams. No harm in cherry picking athletes from a loaded position!
  4. You want sad? The last time I heard "prepare to be very happy" I was served steak flavored tofu by my ex. She then told me that we could have "steak" every day because she couldn't tell the difference! The crazy part is that we had a 1/2 of beef in the fridge at the time. Admittedly, I now question my life choices a little more.
  5. I hear there is still room on the B1G championship trophy!
  6. A lot of it is dealing with the conference ranking of the teams and BCS games. We have had multiple BCS teams every year so the rankings slip. i.e. #3 BIG vs. #3 SEC is a tough enough game but with the extra teams being taken(like Michigan last year) it slips to #4 BIG vs. #3 SEC. Offsetting a single game is bad enough but it falls for every game after that as well.
  7. When you answer an over/under, your suppose to ask another over/under, and make sure your not answering a question that is already answered. under, -1 Over/Under, Minny gets 330 all purpose yards. Over. Kick return yardage adds up fast! O/U Sacks by the blackshirts - 2.5
  8. What is this Big 12 Championship you speak of? It's the only game where you get to play 60:01 minutes of football!
  9. Starting fresh is even harder because the donations accrue over time. I.e. donate 500 this year and 500 next year puts you at 1000 when they are looking through their lists. If you want them quickly it is going to hurt but then you are ahead of the curve. You can get them by putting in the minimum every year and waiting until it is enough but a season ticket layaway plan doesn't sound like much fun to me.
  10. We do not run a Tampa 2 or anything close to it. Here is a pretty good breakdown of the concept in NU's secondary. Not the main theme of the article but provides more depth than most. The good stuff start about 1/2 way down. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/8428129/dick-lebeau-evolution-coverage-tactics-zone-blitz
  11. Yep. Your imagination.
  12. Close. Tampa 2 is a two deep safety look with the safeties playing the deep thirds around the hashes. The middle linebacker drops back another 10 yards or so to cover the deep middle third.
  13. Because "best" is entirely subjective. He is also the one that got beat for that 80-yarder against NW (And yes, Stafford dropped the ball on that one as well). Only the coaches get to watch people make mistakes in practice all week so they play the ones they think will be handling their assignments correctly come gameday. The tackling issues got the coaches second-guessing about Whaley and his lack of speed against spread teams made the coaches roll the dice with the youngster. It is great that he is playing very well so far but we are also not playing teams with a balanced offense. That makes reading offenses WAY easier. When you have an athletic guy who knows the defense you get Lavonte David. When you have an athletic guy who is guessing then you have a liability.
  14. If you have surround sound just mute the center channel. Most networks put the announcers on that channel. Then you can watch the game without announcers you don't like but keep the crowd noise!
  15. We had plenty of scheme changes for NW. They were mainly assignment and personnel based rather than "we have to blitz more" to have a scheme change. Kolter played in a similar style to how they always use him. They put him in a 'random' spot and let him beat his man. We just had someone that could contain him and made them find other ways to beat us.
  16. Same as every game seems to be. Two turnovers or less and we win. Let's just say I am optimistic as the defensive personnel adjustments have been positive... I'm hoping Michigan is emotionally spent and comes out flat. I'm also hoping they are physically beat up because that game with MSU was a war. If so then we go up by a few scores early before letting them back in the game by taking our foot off of the gas. Not the play-calling mind you. When we get a lead everyone starts smiling and seems to phone it in for a while. It would be nice to see that go away but we are not there yet.
  17. This game scares the crap out of me but there are a few thoughts that keep creeping into my head. Our big issues: We put the ball on the ground a lot and struggle with mobile QBs. Night game in a legit hostile environment. They are still slightly miffed about last year. Their big issues: Starting tailback is out. #2 tailback is dinged up and may not play. Miller is already having to leave games after taking a lot of punishment early in the year and may not be 100%. New offense with young QB and the receivers(inexperienced) have not helped him much. Defense tackles like we did at UCLA. Youth at LB has been outweighing athleticism. I think Bo has shown this year that he will put DBs on an island until you can beat them through the air. Ohio has not shown they can do that. I expect them to run a playbook similar to what we saw from UCLA. Whaley and Fischer sit most of the game while Nebraska loads the box. Nebraska tackles well in space and Huskers win 31-21 with giving up a short field to the defense only once.
  18. Lacouture is standing with a straight leg, Lacy is in mid stride with two bent knees. If they looked the same size something would be very wrong.
  19. We played this whole game to stop the run and did it well. I would certainly hope so with 8 in the box most of the night. We saw that they have confidence in the secondary holding there own against an unproven QB. It's not like our guys were getting beat deep, mostly just good catches by their receivers. And we actually saw people tackle. Few things make me happier then seeing a receiver with zero YAC!
  20. He remains reportedly awesome. His issue is that it took so long for him to get cleared by the NCAA that he got into fall camp late and is behind in learning the defense. I think they are trying to redshirt him at this point. I have not seen him on special teams but don't care enough to go digging through participation reports to double check that.
  21. I've been wondering the same thing this year. I asked about it during (or after) the UCLA game. And I asked because I'm not sure why--not because I'm second guessing. Some games our DTs seem to line up farther back than others. With like a 3+ foot space to the O-linemen in front of them. Why is that? I'm not entirely sure why they do that but I have a theory or two. First, basically, it gives them more time to read the o-line. It is tough to get back across the face of an OLman and they can read his direction without giving up much lateral position and a few feet vertically. Second, to address the varying depths, I have two notions. Either the man closer to the line is expecting the double team(invalidating the first statement) so he doesn't need to be as far back or he is better at beating his man so doesn't need as much real estate to accomplish the same thing. Finally, I don't really buy into the "extra momentum for more penetration" argument because I just haven't seen it. A little more jarring to the OL perhaps but not much more. I would think that it would have been obvious last Saturday of all days. Just my two cents worth of brown rabbits.
  22. You are correct, nothing in this defense is more passive than any other. The difference is that the emphasis is not where people expect it to be. Most expect the line to attack and the backers to read and react. When they don't see the line doing that they get mad at Bo for being a defensive genius and not doing what everyone else is. That's why I tend to enjoy the games more when I watch them by myself. Someone is always responsible for containment in some way. Using LBs to set the edge is not uncommon but they need to fast enough to get there(probably why Brown is getting such good reviews so far). Actually you see quite a bit of containment responsibility fall on the corners in our defense. That's why you hear it get mentioned about the corners having to tackle(or just be physical) well. It seems that most assume that was directed at the Peso role but it is all of them and they do a pretty good job of it. This is the main reason that a mobile QB gives us fits. Losing contain to covering a receiver (and the initial contain would be determined by the type of coverage) means a safety will probably have to roll up to accomplish it. In my head the following is Pelini's defense scheme in a nutshell. 3-4 style DL where they are only meant to eat blocks. 4-3 style LB flow to the ball during the play. 4-2-5 personnel where the 5th DB is a free safety to play the Peso and keep more speed on the field. And a match-zone coverage where the people behind you adapt what they are doing to fit how you just adapted to the play. When Pelini says the defense is complicated, he means it.
