  1. My oldest son played football his freshman year, this year he did not go out. He just doesn't like it. He is not very athletic, didn't get to play much and decided not to go out. Being someone that coached HS fb for 20+ years it was hard to see, but I never want to push my kids to do something that they don't like. Now my 9 year old is fast as lightning and loves football more every year. I will definitely let him play. I will be more disappointed if he doesn't play because I know he can be decent, but it is his choice.
  2. Mad Mike was a guy that got paid to be there. He did his schtick at Chiefs games and at Broncos games at some point. Husker Bob was just a Nebraska fan who had a great time. Husker Bob had a heart attack at the stadium and died. Went out the way he wanted to.
  3. very correct, Wisky just got going early against IU and it snowballed. They had 19yds against MSU the week before we played them.
  4. I guess you don't think Michigan, Penn St., Wisky or NW are quality opponents. They are all very solid teams. MSU is good also and have lost a lot of close games. The Big 10 is getting hammered because of 1 weekend this year. NU loses to UCLA and Wisky loses to Oregon St. in the same weekend along with MSU losing to ND and Michigan losing to Alabama and all of a sudden the conference sucks. The SEC get a lot of milage out of there top 5-6 teams, but the bottom end sucks. Tenn, Ark, Vandy, Miss, Auburn are not good teams. I look at the big 12 this year and I don't see anything that overwheming. KSU is really good, but OU, Tejas, Okie Light, TCU, and WVa are nothing that special. They all have just as many losses as Nebraska has. NU has 2 losses to an 9-0 OSU and a 8-2 UCLA and that loss could have gone a different way. They had a terrible scheme in that game I just have a funny feeling come bowl time the conference is going to equate itself very well. Why is UCLA so much better? Why is USC so great? They have 3 losses what makes them so great?
  5. I played HS football and 1 year of small college. Didn't care for it in college, they wanted too much of my time for Dlll football. I coached HS football for 21 years before leaving the teaching profession. The intensity from BP is just his style. It doesn't really surprise me that he is like that. He came from a Catholic high school. My incounters with coaches from Catholic schools saw a lot more profanity and yelling on there part. They could get away with it more than public school teachers today. Pelini is just old school. He is quick to anger and yell, he also cools down faster.
  6. They can think it was a bad call all they want, but they needed to move on from it. Bringing up and showing the PI from the MSU game was going a bit too far. Look the official makes a judgement call in a split second and calls it a fumble.
  7. The problem with the announcing is that the disputed play was not indisputable as they thought. There was not enough evidence to overturn the call on the field. If they had called it a TD, I think it would have stood as a TD. They problem was that McDonnah "sp" and Spielman wouldn't let it go. They kept hammering that it was the wrong call. That is the problem I have with it.
  8. The "experts" have been picking against NU all year long. The guys on Big 10 Network have picked against Nebraska every week except the OSU game. I don't see Nebraska coming out flat and laying an egg. They know what is at stake here. If NU gets going early I can see a 17pt win. Flat will be the next week against the Gophers. That will be the game they will have to grind through. The only real problem I see in this game is that my brother is using the family tickets and he is bad luck.
  9. I like blues based rock. I am not a real straight blues lover. I love SRV his cover of "Little Wing" is IMO one of the greatest instrumentals in Rock and Roll. I would much rather listen to Creams version of "Crossroads" than Robert Johnson's, sorry. I love Zepplins bluesier stuff. "Since I've Been Lovin You" LIve is probably my favorite song of theirs. Robert Cray is good and he is a blues man. You got to love AC/DC, "Whole Lot of Rosie" great blues rock.
  10. Done right these could be very good movies. The problem with episodes 1-3 in comparison to 4-6 is that I was 11 years old in 1977 when I first saw Star Wars. It was something that no one had ever seen before. It was fresh and I was a kid. Go 25 years into the future and we expect something completely spectacular. The problem is that we have seen it before and its just not new and fresh to us. Oh and George Lucas is a lousy director, great producer and thinker of stories, but not a great director.
  11. I hate Free Bird and Paradise City to very long drawn out songs.
  12. I agree this game worries me for that reason. I hope they realize how important this game is. I think we win the guys on Big 10 Network are all predicting an NU loss. That is good the only time in recent memory they said we would win was at OSU
  13. This is a huge misconception. Bill Callahan had 4 recruiting classed while he was coach here and in those classes he signed 15 Nebraska kids (not counting Walk-ons) for an average of 3.75 kids per class. Bo Pelini has had 5 full classes while at Nebraska and he has signed 17 Nebraska kids (not counting Walk-ons) for and average of 3.4. As of right now this year there is only one verbal from an in-state kid and the only one from last year had the last name Cotton. Maybe Pelini is bringing in more in-state Walk-On’s but he definitely is not signing more scholarship athletes on signing day then the previous staff was. In state scholarship talent is cyclical. When Nebraska is really good, they have a lot of in state talent. Look at the teams from 93-99 lots of instate talent. The 97 team started a Nebraska backfield.
  14. This is where you start to see the correlation between recruiting rankings and on-field success. 2006 January 8, 2007 2 Florida 41 1 Ohio State 14 BCS National Championship 2007 January 7, 2008 2 LSU 38 1 Ohio State 24 BCS National Championship 2008 January 8, 2009 1 Florida 24 2 Oklahoma 14 BCS National Championship 2009 January 7, 2010 1 Alabama 37 2 Texas 21 BCS National Championship 2010 January 10, 2011 1 Auburn 22 2 Oregon 19 BCS National Championship 2011 January 9, 2012 2 Alabama 21 1 LSU 0 BCS National Championship I think the truth lies somewear in the middle of what both of you think. Since TO retired the recruiting services have become more accurate in their assessment of players, but they still miss on quite a few guys. Case in point, our recruit from SD this year, his name slips my mide. He would most likely be a 4* in Texas. Nebraska has always lived off of the players that aren't as highly recruited or not at all. Aaron Taylor or even Will Shields were not 5* guys they were too short to get that kind of look, but in the right system they were AA and outland trophy winners, and won will be in the NFL hall of fame. They have taken guys that are walk-ons and done great things. Another example is Long at guard. The guy never played a down of O-line in HS. Great athlete, smart, walks on at NU at 6'4" 245 or so and 50lbs later is going to be a 1st team Big 10 player this year. There are tons of players like that all over the state of Nebraska and in the small towns all over the midwest. The best athlete on the team plays RB or QB or what ever in HS, but maybe he isn't that at the D1 level. Wants to keep playing moves to the O-line, WR, TE maybe a D-Tackle and can contribute. Nebraska has done that for years and they need to keep getting 3-4 kids every year that contribute it helps make there team better. I mean whats up with Andy Jadavey. The kid is great, walks on and 4 months later is the starting FB. I agree with you that the exposure isn't there like it is in the Speed States, but it's hard to get an assessment on a kid who is playing against very weak competition. Nebraska has done a great job of finding diamonds in the rough in this regard. However, at the end of the day, I think anyone would rather have a kid who is dominating top competition; this is more of an indicator of a "sure thing" (or as close as something can be to one). These are the guys that SEC schools not only get, but they get in droves (look at the number of commits for the top SEC schools up to this point and look at the total number of commits for the Huskers at this point and you'll see what I mean). The piece of Jankovich is misleading. Don't get me wrong, as a former HS fullback, I thoroughly enjoyed watching him, especially in the Wisconsin game, blowing guys as a lead blocker, but his starting I think is more attributed to the VERY inept play of Zimmerer and Marrow than any other factor. To a degree this is true about Jadavey, but the kid is good. They were raving about him when he got there. Nebraska is never going to compete with the SEC for that many recruits. The proximaty to home is too great a draw for the majority of them. The sooner NU proves they can compete regularly for big 10 titles and put a consistant product on the field they will start getting more of the highly rated players, but NU wil always fight the battle of low population. Nebraska always recruited their sorrounding states well. They always pulled 6-10 of the best kids every year from Missouri, Kansas, Colorado and Iowa. They don't get as many as they used to they need to get back to this also.

  16. ....and if you were going to commit $700 (bare minimum as you say) and 3 days or your time to the trip....do you think it really makes a bit of difference if the ticket is $5 or $50? That's only 10-15% of your cost. Who cares. (and I think i've traveled enough to know how much it costs ME). you can travel as you wish...but it's not the reality of the life I have. I was probably far undershooting w/ 1400. Wow, this is a great p!ssing match. When the wife and I went to the UCLA game we spent 400 on air fare 100 on a room, 120 on tickets and 200 roughly on food and booze, so about 800 bucks. For an example.
  17. Nebraska needs to keep playing with a chip on their shoulder. The defense needs to come out and keep improving and playing well.
  18. Glad to see you are still so high on the Huskers. You must be great fun to watch a game with. Putting myself in Oregon's shoes I would think we have a chance against them. If they have geared there whole year into playing for the MNC and then don't get the chance to play in it, they may not be quite so up to play in the Rose Bowl for the 3X in 4 years. Think NU vs. Washington in the Holiday bowl or Alabama vs. Utah a few years ago in the Fiesta bowl I think.
  19. Unfortunately my brother is going to the game. He is bad luck. The last 2 games he attended are NW last year and UCLA this year.
  20. This really sums up the good and the bad of what BP is trying to do. Once the players really get they are great, but it just takes a lot of time to get it. Once they get it it allows our first 2 levels to play a little more aggresive. That is what we are seeing.
  21. Read Sam Mckeon's article. There is already a thread going. BP has a great scheme. It just takes a long time to grasp. That is the problem. Once the DB really get the coverage down it allows the front 7 to play more aggesive.
  22. The gospel truth is that players getting hurt in a game is just part of the game and deep down you know it. I know your type. If Martinez would have got hurt in the 2nd quarter. You wouldn't be making any excuses as to why Nebraska lost. I don't understand why so many people have to justify or qualify a win.
  23. I think Miller deserves to be on this list, Robinson no. What gets Robinson so much play is his personality. He is great in front of the camera. We all know TM isn't. I really do think he is just a shy dude who is not comfortable in that situation. He has gotten way better at it but is still nothing close to a natural. Miller is ok in front of the camera but not as good as DR. Do I think TM is one of the 15 best QB's in the country. Yes I do.
  24. I guess I disagree. Your just going on what Colter did last year. This year the defense shut him down when he played QB or WR. He rushed 14 times for 35 yards. Thats about 2.5 a carry. They were prepared for him and effectively took him away as a playmaker. I really think they will employ the a similar strategy agianst Michigan. Stop the running and force Robinson to beat them with his arm.
  25. Catching a punt is a lot harder than it looks. When I coached 9th grade fb one year I literally had no won who could consistantly catch a punt tha was a skill player. The best punt catcher we had was a guard on the team. After catching a punt the returner then has to make the first guy miss in order to be a great punt returner. He also has to be fearless when gunners are coming straight at you. Obviously Turner is not out there because he doesn't grade out as well as AA does in practice. Mike Rozier used to always return kicks when he was at NU. 1# one RB do it all the time.
