  1. This mystery(?) douchebag sparked nationwide discussion, generated countless web hits on message boards and news sites, strangely unified much of Husker nation in Bo's favor at a time when he was under fire, and created excitement and interest during what would otherwise be an awkward week. Maybe he's the hero we deserve after all. Then again, I bet lots of us lost some work productivity this week because of all this too. Ass!
  2. What? Every single one of Bo's teams has contended for conference titles. And while Bo obviously hasn't gotten over the hump of what we had expected him to do, "another 10 win season" is certainly better than anything Callahan pulled off. I don't think Bo is great, but he got us back to a quality baseline. Callahan and Pederson dipped far below anything that ever should be allowed to happen.
  3. Bo, when he found out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayO1wtXbh_Q
  4. Man, this crowd is a bunch of f#%king fairweather f#%king...
  5. I can imagine a conservative game plan that doesn't count on Armstrong to make a bunch of big plays if he gets the start, thus preventing any major QB controversies.
  6. I always laugh when people act as if it's some sort of betrayal for someone to look at other jobs. There's never really any reason for anyone in any job not to continually take a look at their options. Occasional attrition is simply the cost of business. Any business. Even for folks who like where they are. No matter how bad, good, or average Bo or any of his assistants are, we all know none of them are going to be around forever. They should all be keeping their eyes open for the best opportunities, whether it is to take a promotion or to find someplace to land if they get fired. And the AD better damn well have a list in mind for potential replacements at any given time. At the same time, everyone still has a job to do.
  7. I know there is a bit of arguing going on, but I simultaneously agree with every post in this thread. Does that make me wishy-washy?
  8. It's an interesting bit of sociology how different personalities fit into specific online communities, even when those communities have the same central purpose such as rooting for the Huskers. I used to lurk on other sites but couldn't even imagine paying to post on any of them. The personality on HuskerBoard is much more homey than any other. And the price is right.
  9. Well, a lot of our own fanbase has traveled rather quickly between worrying about losing Pelini or Beck to promotion and wanting him fired. I don't know how much of Oregon is actually worried about losing Frost to a HC gig somewhere yet, but if they have a few weak games, they might be just as quick to want him canned. Fans are funny that way. Let's see him put an entire resume together first.
  10. The "weasel tipster" is a cowardly douchebag, no doubt. But come on, Bo is no victim. He made the statements on his own, in a setting where he certainly should have known better. Bo took ownership of it, faced the music, and has survived another day, so now we can all move on. But to think he was a victim is just silly.
  11. OTOH, if the admin already knew about it and dealt with it, should Pelini be punished again just because the public found out? I'm curious what his punishment was. Of course, there is no punishment greater than knowing you disappointed Tom Osborne.
  12. Sharpe and Bo are talking. Can you consider the tech guy a party to a communication that was off-air? Yes, Bo should know that there are mics in the room. There are also mics in tons of rooms in schools, offices, etc. You still can have an expectation of privacy. I'm presuming Sharpe isn't consenting to this or behind this, so it would seem this one-party rule is a little weaker in this situation. To clear it up, there are one-party states and there are two-party states. "One-party" basically means ANY party. Anyone in the room can record. "Two-party" essentially means EVERY party, you'd have to get everyone's consent. Nebraska is a one-party state. And I agree with others, the reasonable expectation to privacy would be negated by the presence of media equipment and multiple people in the room. I can't imagine any legal implications that can be legitimately brought up from this recording, unless it was used in an attempt at extortion.
  13. I'd call Eichhorst and say, "You're able to handle this, right? Good. Let me know how it goes." Then I'd sit in my office and look studious. That would have been Monday. Then I'd order Chinese take-out. Some chicken lo mein would really hit the spot.
  14. Yeah, but they went five straight years without a winning season, 4 straight without a bowl, and Blake's years were more miserable than anything Callahan produced at Nebraska. Can we honestly say that if NU strung together multiple years of the same putrid magnitude that our fans would act any differently? We saw a taste of that ugliness during the Callahan years, but thankfully it didn't last long enough to send us completely over the edge. I think our "greatest fans" moniker is well-deserved, but more of a product of being able to witness consisten winning football for consecutive decades and being able to handle that winning (and the occasional loss) with class and dignity. That consistency is the difference between NU and schools like K-State and Mizzou who have a couple successful seasons here and there and act like complete douchebags, because they don't know how to handle success. NU does. So does Oklahoma. We aren't used to handling failure, and it's hard to do so with dignity. If we had losing seasons year after year, the stadium would eventually stop filling up, most fans wouldn't be so eager to applaud for the opponents, and you wouldn't see nearly as much red about town.
  15. No way. TO retired because he was old, had already stayed was past the amount of time he had originally planned on when he returned, and was comfortable finally having good coaches in place for the major sports with a new arena and facilities. Eichhorst left a brewing $h!tstorm at Miami (if those sanctions ever actually come, I guess) that only hit the wires after he became AD there. There is no way he would leave that behind just to knowingly get caught up in a scandal that would require him to fire a 9+ win coach in his first year. Surely he knows the history of this place. And TO surely would not wantonly pass the buck to someone else like that.
  16. I totally agree with this. His lack of judgment in making the comments outloud is probably worse than the comments themselves, imo. He deserves heat for it and will need to make amends. Maybe he deserves some sort of official punishment from the AD, and maybe he won't be around next year. You reap what you sow, and he has no one to blame but himself. However, I think Bo has made enough changes in his public persona and how he conducts himself since that time that his coaching is still far and away what needs to be worked on. If he was still making these sorts of comments today and making a fool of himself, I'd be inclined to say that we should can him now. But he has changed and improved. Hopefully he can change and improve his coaching too!
  17. Turman as far as I can remember. Monte Christo started against Texas in 1998.
  18. That video from the Ohio State post-game locker room brought all sorts of warm fuzzies about the team and the direction of the program. With all apologies for pissing on this positive thread, I guess I'm confused as to how Bo went from such pride and elation here to the rage that he was spewing shortly thereafter in front of Greg Sharpe? I guess in between was the press conference where he went off on Dirk, so maybe that was what flipped the trigger, but he should have ignored all of that then and enjoyed the victory. I would like to think that he would be better able to ignore that now, as his public persona has softened the last couple of years and he has done lots of positive things, but the PR damage has already been done.
  19. Actively pursued Penn State? On the heels of arguably the most damning scandal in the history of college sports? Is this serious? Who are this guy's sources?
  20. I doubt that the same morons who are hurling racial epithets are the same ones who stay to applaud the visiting team for the most part, but I don't think anyone can really argue the rest of your post. This crap happens everywhere, and it's disgusting, and social media makes it more visible. I wish it wouldn't happen anywhere, and I wish fans could police themselves better. Down to the individuals, especially the student section, I would guess that our fanbase is not really much different than any other, except for the organized willingness to show class toward opponents en masse, but we have the same kinds of idiots that any other place will have (just different numbers of whom are tolerated perhaps).
  21. Was he complaining about the opposing team being cheered on the way out? Really? And no one should condone college kids getting cursed at by anyone playing a game. That's not right. But in Thenarse's case, I walked by him once in Lincoln leaving the gym while he was walking in, and we briefly made eye contact. He sneered and said "What are you looking at, big man?" I did not respond, but sometimes players walk around town with some pretty lousy attitudes, and it makes it harder to be sympathetic towards them. Yeah, there is a continegent of the fan base who are insufferable d-bags, but taking on an attitude with the entire fanbase is not going to do a player or a coach any favors. Being able to deal with the negative nancies appropriately (i.e. ignore them) is part of the job.
