NU never contacted Scott Frost per Oregon Head Coach
Hayseed replied to River-runner's topic in Husker Football
But didn't someone in the hospital who is in the know say it's a done deal? -
Always liked him......I assume if we contacted him it's to be the DC.
-
Ummm......how often does he run the zone-read and then follow it with a bunch of Hail Marys?

What recruiting ranking do you want/need to see this year?
Hayseed replied to teachercd's topic in Husker Football
I think a bunch of recruits already decommitted and think more might. Riley's OSU classes were usually from #45-#55. What will happen is all a complete mystery to me with this hire....I'm guessing it won't be good. Even Mr. Riley was surprised by the offer and having no idea it was coming will have to completely switch gears. He was recruiting for OSU just a few days ago. -

Anybody seen lo country around here? He made a pretty convincing argument for Frost. -

I don't think that's true. Riley was in California last night recruiting a kid to OSU. Also, the recruits knew of Riley's leaving before his assistants did. I don't see Riley doing either of those things if he knew he was leaving for UNL. Good one. -

You might think that this administration doesn't want Frost or anyone with Husker connections. Maybe there is so much infighting that they decided to go with a complete unknown so that nobody got who they wanted? Personally, I think the CSU coach was the intended target and they scrambled as soon as Florida hired him. -
Can't help but feel the Riley move is Political.

I think you're onto something here. I've heard rumors around town that they're changing the name of the school to The University of Nebraska-Lincoln at Madison. -
I just feel bad for Dan Hawkins because he's such a nice guy....maybe the nicest coach in all of sports...and he really should've been at the top of the list to clean up that yucky feeling the loyal fanbase developed from the 7 years of that mean and sourpussed Bo Pelini. I mean, if you're going for the championship of all that is good and nice, it's hard to see how you wouldn't even make an offer to Smilin' Dan?? But since that good ship has sailed, I hope if our new coach retains any of the old staff it's only the jolliest of them....Barney Cotton seems like a jolly fellow, maybe he could be the pep coach?

USA Today: In Mike Riley, Nebraska finds what it was searching for
Hayseed replied to cheekygeek's topic in Husker Football
The media is sure are going out of it's way to butter us up today. This is what we were searching for? Says who? -
***Official Head Coaching Search Discussion***

I still have no info about the new coach. -
I hear Houston Nutt is available......maybe that's who they were talking about?

I think the scatterbrained play calling of Beck made it hard to tell what kind of talent we have. Somehow the ball couldn't even make it into the hands of stars like Ameer and De'Morney with a simple swing pass. Our main plays were the zone read and Hail Mary. Are we extremely talented compared to the rest of the BIG? Really hard to say. I get the impression we may not have the smartest team in college football....didn't see too many Mike Brown's or Barrett Ruud's out there this year, but it's hard to know what's going on without being in there.

Why I don't like the idea of Scott Frost...
Hayseed replied to AgMarauder04's topic in Husker Football
Well put. I've said the same thing in other threads too. There are exceptions to every rule, but if you are looking at probabilities, an experienced head coach with success has a better chance of succeeding here than an experienced coordinator would. Plus, unlike some assistants that are promoted within their current program and who are able to retain the team chemistry and style of play, we are talking about an assistant coming in to build a whole new approach to offense, defense, special teams while trying to build team chemistry and trying to convince prospects to choose Nebraska over its competitors. Like Tom Osborne who started that goofy option football. I'm also thinking that being in the NCAA playoffs might make recruits think you could know what you're doing. Another thing overlooked about Frosty is that he's not just an OC, he's also an NFL safety. -
We have to see how it turns out. If Eichorst is out interviewing also-rans and nobody's then ,yeah, it looks pretty sad. If he already has a commit who doesn't want his team chemistry interrupted then it could work out very well. I think people exaggerate about the importance of this recruiting class..... I know if I was a commit I'd wait to see if I was getting in on something big.....or at least see where Bo is going if I was stuck on playing for him.

Hayseed replied to AgMarauder04's topic in Husker Football
I don't know how his fancy passing offense will work in the snowball league, but I'm good with Frosty. If you're looking for an Osborne type, he's about as close as you'll get. I'd be good with Craig Bohl on the staff as well. -
I hear Barry Alvarez is an up and coming coach.

The Options for HC? Does Eichorst have a Finalist?
Hayseed replied to Josh_Roeloffs's topic in Husker Football
a gun to your head and you spew out this? there will be an announcement as soon as possible to get a start on recruiting. if there is nothing announced until after the bowl games we're as good as f'd. Why doesn't he just announce it right now then and in what regard are we f'd? Do you think the new coach will bring in a top recruiting class this year and if he doesn't we're f'd?- 23 replies

Absolutely don't want Tressel.

Why Jim tressel is the Vegas favorite for the HC
Hayseed replied to Taylor21's topic in Husker Football
Isn't Tressel a cheater? Shouldn't cheaters be banned from coaching in the NCAA? Besides that, Tressel had all the recruiting power in the world in over-populated Ohio,....what makes you think he could recruit out here? -
I think a hard scrabble guy from the wrong side of the tracks like Bo might do well at Penn State. He's from that region and most likely wouldn't have the recruiting problems he had here which sometimes made the team resemble the Island of Misfit Toys. He could pull enough hard nosed BIG style players out of Pittsburg alone to make a pretty stout team that wouldn't fold in the arctic temperatures.Illinois and Northwestern also come to mind but they don't have near the commitment in facilities as Penn State. Also Bo may cuss a lot but he has good character and would be the kind of players coach who I think would excel in that culture.

If they had a gun to my head I'd say he already has a commitment and can't announce it until after the Bowl games. Other than that, I have no idea.- 23 replies
