  1. I guess I never realized Orgeron coached against Riley during his interim stint at USC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8BIiLXCEz0
  2. The first time the Trojans offered the job, Chargers president Dean Spanos told Riley that he'd be fired if he even interviewed with the Trojans, so he declined to risk his job. He then turned down Alabama, thinking that he'd get the UCLA job. http://www.cornnation.com/2014/12/4/7335055/so-who-did-nebraska-hire-when-eichorst-picked-mike-reilly "I turned down Alabama waiting for UCLA," Riley said. When the Bruins' job went to Karl Dorrell, Riley says he felt "like I'd been kicked in the stomach." At that point, Riley was more than discouraged. "I don't want to sound too dramatic about lost faith and all that, but I have to admit to thinking, ‘Whoa, what's going on here?'" http://espn.go.com/blog/colleges/usc/post/_/id/18834/usc-will-have-hands-full-with-former-trojans-coaching-candidate-mike-riley
  3. First time USC offered, he turned it down due to the Chargers president threatening to fire him if he even interviewed. As for Alabama, the UCLA job was open as well and both schools showed interest. Riley preferred the UCLA job so he turned down Bama.
  4. Jesus we REALLY must want Wisconsin to be our rival...
  5. Anybody hear any news on Walton? Last I heard he was supposed to join the team in January but that was before Bo was fired.
  6. The '14 defense is nowhere near the abyssimal 2007 defense. The 2014 defense is skewed heavily by the Wisconsin debacle. Outside of that, it's been a decent to good defense. 2014 gave up over 30 points 3 times, 31 to Miami, 34 to Iowa, and 59 to Wisconsin. 2007 gave up 49 to USC, 40 to Ball State, 41 to Missouri, 45 to Okie State (35-0 at half), 36 to A&M, 76 to Kansas, 31 to KSU, and 65 to Colorado. The more in depth stats tell the same story. It's also favorable skewed by the fact that Michigan State stopped playing football at the end of the 3rd quarter. That's their problem, not ours. Also, our defense wasn't a problem in that game.
  7. I wasn't a big fan of Tressel as our HC last year when that was brought up, but now, in our current circumstances, Tressel with Frost as OC/HC in waiting is the best possible result for us and I hope it happens. The only way it could get better is Muschamp as DC.
  8. I don't know why people put so much value on that. Anybody can change a Wikipedia pages details. Edit- nvm phone is slow
  9. I can't speak for Beck, but defensively what would you have them change? Unless you're playing an offense like an air raid or triple option I don't think the things you do from game to game as far as your defensive scheme should change drastically.
  10. If there are no upsets this week I'd guess 9 or 10, leapfrogging all two loss teams except Auburn and maybe Bama if Auburn get a good win against Georgia and Bama plays a tight loss against Miss St. If Auburn and OSU lose (both playing ranked teams) and Bama gets blown out we could sneak into the 7th spot.
  11. I had a mostly good time at CR. Had a couple pre game drinks. College student sitting in the student section with some friends. The 'a-hole' chant was funny to me. The Sconie fans around us seemed rowdy at first, but I guess our Nebraska kindness melted their wicked hearts as they started offering us nachos and invited us to a party. Had fun 'jumping around' and yelling 'EAT sh#t'. Then there's the other parts. One of my friends was constantly getting kneed in the back. A couple rows in front of us a guy yelled at a girl 'get raped.' I saw a couple empty cups get thrown in the general vicinity of some other Husker fans.
  12. Yuck. The helmet's pretty good, but the rest is horrible. Too much red.
  13. That's laughable. ESPN giving further reason to why nobody cares about their recruiting rankings.
  14. To be fair a good safety will put himself in a position to make an easy play, and that is what makes a great player. Kind of like when Suh knew he wouldn't get to the QB in time, he'd drop back, read the QB's eyes and that often led to a interception or knocked down ball. That is what I believe makes Cooper a good safety. He knows the defense and is good at being in the right position he is needed to make a play. Everybody remembers Stafford's hit on the Chattanooga RB. Everybody also remembers all his missed tackles when he went running in full speed and took the wrong angle of pursuit. Cooper has always been good at filling his lane during run plays.
  15. I wouldn't mind a safety that knows judo.
  16. I would reserve judgement until Dillman's senior year is over.
  17. So much wrong in one post. Martinez QB Rating: 2010: 138.8 2011: 126.5 - Coincided with the move to the B1G and still recovering from his injury 2012: 141.6 2013: 140.0 TA was 124.3 Interceptions: 2010: 7 on 196 attempts 2011: 8 on 288 attempts 2012: 12 on 368 attempts 2013: 2 on 110 attempts TA had 8 INTs on 131 attempts. Completion percentage: 2010: 59.2 2011: 56.2 2012: 62.0 2013: 62.7 TA had a 52% completion percentage Taylor was a special player, if he had a decent defense backing him up we easily win the 2012 CCG, and would have had a chance to play for a natty (it was defensive failures that cost us games over the past 4 years and not the offense unless we are talking about games Taylor didn't play in like the loss to Iowa and Mich St). If Armstrong wins anything it will be because of the much improved defense. Edited to add completion percentage, I knew I forgot something. I didn't even read any of that because I was using QBR, not rating. I think that's pretty evident if you look further than what you want to see. Furthermore, why don't you try posting Taylor's total fumbles as well? And how many drives that f'd up? Might've not been a turnover, but it certainly f'd us numerous times. You don't find it odd how much support Tommy got from the team as opposed to Taylor? I didn't say Taylor was bad nor did I say Tommy was better, I just said we will win more games WITH WHOEVER THE NEXT QB is - because team chemistry is pretty damn important and so is leadership. Oh and there is a fun story about Taylor overriding too many plays and getting us into worse positions. I don't care if you don't like Taylor, but this is pure speculation. Until players start coming out and saying they didn't like him, then why bring this up? This was beat to death a couple years ago when the line was blocking poorly. Until players come forward and say Taylor wasn't a leader, or a bad influence in the locker room, or a poor teammate, don't bring it up. It's pointless. Why was Martinez even brought up in this forum? He's spent his four years of eligibility, and this thread pertains to next years roster.
  18. Not really fair to compare TA with TM on the offense. TA going into this year has a LOT more firepower behind him than TM did his sophmore year, and the defense is much better. TM won us more games than he lost us, with less support. That being said, I fully expect TA to be the starter heading into the season and I'm sure he will work on his decision making to cut down on turnovers since we don't need to lean on him. And I agree that his knee probably wasn't 100% and that he will be more mobile this season.
  19. ^^^^This. Or, they will oversign like usual, then they will ask him to greyshirt. Then, when his greyshirt runs out, they will ask him to pay his own way b/c they don't have a scholly for him. Well if these kids and parents haven't caught on to what he is doing by now, then it's on them. Does this sort of thing happen that often? Not that I doubt it, but I don't really follow other teams recruiting practices.
  20. World of Tanks on the 360. This game is free and fun. Although I'm sure its PC counterpart is better. Edit- If you do play this game on the 360, don't play it on Saturday mornings. Pretty sure I just had a kindergartner on my team.
  21. Really weird ending to that game. 16 seconds left from inside their 20 Leaf throws a bomb to a receiver who could have been called for a PI, but in a close game like that you generally let the players play. Then Wazzou false starts and the ref almost takes a second off the clock before he is corrected. Then, on what happened to be the second to last play, they get off a dump pass for good yardage. Looked like he was tackled around the 4 second mark, maybe a little under, but the clock goes down to 2 seconds. With first down clock stoppage Wazzou rushes to the line and seems to get the spike down with 1 second left but the ref claims he didn't get it off in time. Either way, Wazzou would've had to score on their next play.
  22. Hypothetical question. Let's say we never hired Pelini as head coach and this season had fired this 'hypothetical coach.' Pelini takes a HC job at a program in a similar situation as us after firing BC at a BCS AQ school. He gets the same record with the same big wins/blowout losses. Would you hire him?
  23. Not the most underrated, but one to think about; Eric Hagg. I honestly think he was a better college player than Dennard.
