  1. Yes but the school I graduated from SDSU beat YSU 38-8 last week!! Go Jacks! Made my heart glad. SDSU Jackrabbits - always better than the USD coyotes.
  2. I saw this pic earlier and just laughed - the poor girl probably never heard the likes of it before!
  3. Why is South Dakota razzing NU?Amusing sign though. He isn't razzing NU - razzing Bo - no longer a weapon of mass destruction in Nebraska anymore
  4. Exactly. And seeing the FB quick hitters were a thing of beauty. Reminds me of the old days of FB trap plays. Jano just about broke a couple of long ones.
  5. I wish TO would have stayed on at least 5 more years. Recruiting would have been better and I suspect we could have won 2 more NC in that time (although it wasn't the coach that fumbled the ball across the end zone line against texas in 1999!)
  6. Agree about Shaw. I see so much of what could work at NU in Stanford. They run like we use to run, they mix up the O wt good passing, - good balance. Part of NU's problem when it comes to recruits is also identity - what are we? Under Bo it seemed to be a moving target not just season to season but game to game. Even within a game, we didn't stick long enough with what worked to be successful long term. I think the right money brings in the right coach who can make us relevant again. However, it is too early to give up on MR - this season has become a dumpster fire for several reasons but I anticipate better in year 2 & 3.
  7. I would switch #1 and # 2 around. #2 started it all and we've not been the same since. The loss to Colo 2001 was like a seismic shift in Husker land. Caught by surprised and it first the 1st great crack in our era of invincibility. One should remember that the 1999 team would have, should have been a NC team outside of 1 fumble going into the end zone against Texas. We were still a force to be dealt with after Tom retired. The 2001 team had everyone believing until one fateful Thanksgiving weekend.
  8. Good article and good perspective. Too many variables in a transition year. At the end of year 2 we will have a better perspective.
  9. Just commenting about the bolded . . . That is wrong. The people DEFENDING Riley are the ones that are bashing the players in some ill-fated attempt to make excuses for him. Carry on . . . ADS isn't wrong. There is no one here blindly defending Riley. Some people here can understand a year of transition and will reserve making toxic comments until next year or the year after. Some choose to be toxic all the time no matter what. The part in bold is important. This is a transition year full of all of the toxins that go with it - including this thread. Yes, I was shocked as everyone when MR was named our coach. I believed it was time for Bo to go - we weren't going to get any better wt him and he was becoming an embarrassments. One bright spot wt the transition, is that unlike previous transition years, we ended up preserving a good recruiting class thanks to MR and his coach's efforts. Last DEC - Jan - were all pumped following the planes of the coaches and were excited that not only did MR retain most of Bo's recruits but brought some other high quality recruits into the class. Will my best wishes were that this class could win the division and get to a good bowl, in the back of my mind I knew there was the possibility of a dumpster fire - there always is in year 1 - that opportunity. I think year 3 is the real year to judge the success of this transition. However, if year 2 ends up like year 1, either MR "retires, resigns, or is fired" or if retained ends up on the hottest hot seat in the nation. However, I would expect a big turn around next year. The most toxic players will graduate off the team, the team gets comfortable wt the playbook, new recruits who are learning MRs system from the beginning, and coaches wise up to the Nebraska culture. etc.
  10. Jano is the symbol of what was "Nebraska" - Him, Schlesinger, the Makovickas, and other FBs where the key that made NU I- Back U - our great I-Backs would not have been as great without the hard working FBs in front of them - clearing the way and occasionally getting the big call "Its Schlesinger, Its Schlesinger" still gives me goose bumps when I see the reply- In my mind the most glorious run in Husker history. Yes Tommie's 75 yard TD against Florida was amazing as he broke 7 or more tackles, Rozier's sideline to sideline run against UCLA would be difficult to duplicate, & Crouch's 98 yard run against Missouri probably broke more ankles than any run in history - but none compares to the moment, the importance, the timing of Schlesinger's run against Miami to tie up the game. And then he repeats it a series later to win the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2v3t_kqH3GE http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/football/yards-it-s-schlesinger-inside-the/article_a937b139-28ce-557f-bc01-def49a92cb4c.html
  11. We have to get rid of the ghosts of Wisc past out of the system. They have dominated the series since we ented the Big 10 in every way possible except for one win by NU. In the same way we had to exorcise the OU sooner magic ghost - we have to do the same here. Might as well start wt this game. Both teams are down - I'd like us to be one on the rebound. Wins build confidence and that is what we need. Time to flush our record wt them and start over on the win side
  12. While Cross is not a speed demon, he would add physicality (always wanted to use that word that TV announcers always use) - he is a bruiser . He would be fast enough to play the position and God knows we need depth there. It sure worked great for Cody Glenn and the team. I think he switched his senior year and had an immediate impact - but also got burned a few times due to lack of experience. . With things unsettled at RB and he being out of the mix - looking for the FB to be the bruiser along wt a scat back - this may be the only way he gets real playing time.
  13. Great highlight real NUance - DPE was a one man wrecking ball last year - rolling through Ds
  14. We don't cheer "Go Big White!" We cheer "Go Big RED". Red has got to be in the uniform. I don't care for the all white except during a blizzard when our QB can see our players and the D can't!
  15. Done. The two topics are divided into their own threads. I think I got them all. But they were spread across a couple pages, so I may have missed one or two. Thanks NUance
  16. http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2015/08/01/ohio-uranium-plant-cleanup-plan-okd.html That plant ceased production since 2001. The demo project that has been going on there since is, well, here's a nice history of its "accomplishments". Of course Ohio politicians want to bemoan the possibility of lost jobs, but the federal government does not exist to prop up every project. If it's run its course, it's run its course, but of course they'll fight for more money until the end. Think U.S. nuclear capability will be fine. A site that churns out articles like this is disingenuous at best. Their intentions have nothing to do with informing, and everything to do with just the opposite. (Sorry, to be clear, I'm not going after you here -- but plainly, this article is really misleading). No problem zoogs - glad you took the time to dig deeper.
  17. what happens wt VV - how long is he out and does he go back to starting?
  18. Mods - is there a way to move the PP discussion to another thread so that this thread can move back to the topic. It is understandable that a broad topic thread like this will go down many rabbit trials but the PP discussion needs a thread of its own.
  19. Good point Hedley. In addition to killing a baby, there is the other argument that individuals shoudl take personal responsibility for their actions, and that its not ok to kill a life for a roll in the hay with someone you don't know and love. So pregnancy as punishment? Forced birth because someone had unprotected sex is seriously some sort of medieval belief. People have abortions for all sorts of reasons. You act like all of them are just "oops! teehee!" or something. How about if some sort of deformity develops? Or their socioeconomic standing suddenly changes? Or dad decides to skip town? What if the condom broke or it just happened to be that .1% of the time the pill didn't do its job? You don't know these people's situations, and it's frankly none of your business. And a clump of cells is no more a person than an egg is a chicken. ---- If you want to reduce abortions, support planned parenthood. Providing affordable and easy to access family planning does more to reduce unwanted pregnancies than anything else. This witch hunt against PP needs to stop. Glad to know you feel there are acceptable reasons to kill innocent babies. Guess you were one of the lucky ones. Go thank mom and dad for sparing you. The culture of death in full bloom. There are many family planning organizations in every community that do the work that PP does yet wtout providing abortions. PP has to 'outsource' some of its 'services' to those organizations - like mammograms. Congress can redirect the PP funding to these other organizations and not hurt women's health concerns at all.
  20. Is this a good idea or not. Is it a sign of our decline or a sign of the progress due to cooperation between nations (ie Iran Deal)? My take, we should never be reliant on production of strategic materials if at all possible. This article doesn't give the 'other side' of the argument - so perhaps someone with more time can look for that and contribute. http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/obama-administration-close-last/2015/09/28/id/693777/
  21. Talent has been depleted on OL and on D by so many players that have left the program who should be here - add to that the injuries on D - not surprising we are here. I would agree wt NUance - we survived a transitional year with a winning record - and to make it more positive, MR had a good recruiting class in spite of (and maybe because of ) the coaching change. That is a net positive. We'll be better next year.
  22. He'll probably end up at Iowa eventually. Hopefully that's the closest he ever gets to Lincoln sure glad he isn't our coach - a dumpster fire worse then Bo would be in the works.
