  1. Good point Hedley. In addition to killing a baby, there is the other argument that individuals shoudl take personal responsibility for their actions, and that its not ok to kill a life for a roll in the hay with someone you don't know and love. So pregnancy as punishment? Forced birth because someone had unprotected sex is seriously some sort of medieval belief. People have abortions for all sorts of reasons. You act like all of them are just "oops! teehee!" or something. How about if some sort of deformity develops? Or their socioeconomic standing suddenly changes? Or dad decides to skip town? What if the condom broke or it just happened to be that .1% of the time the pill didn't do its job? You don't know these people's situations, and it's frankly none of your business. And a clump of cells is no more a person than an egg is a chicken. ---- If you want to reduce abortions, support planned parenthood. Providing affordable and easy to access family planning does more to reduce unwanted pregnancies than anything else. This witch hunt against PP needs to stop. Glad to know you feel there are acceptable reasons to kill innocent babies. Guess you were one of the lucky ones. Go thank mom and dad for sparing you. The culture of death in full bloom. There are many family planning organizations in every community that do the work that PP does yet wtout providing abortions. PP has to 'outsource' some of its 'services' to those organizations - like mammograms. Congress can redirect the PP funding to these other organizations and not hurt women's health concerns at all.
  2. Is this a good idea or not. Is it a sign of our decline or a sign of the progress due to cooperation between nations (ie Iran Deal)? My take, we should never be reliant on production of strategic materials if at all possible. This article doesn't give the 'other side' of the argument - so perhaps someone with more time can look for that and contribute. http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/obama-administration-close-last/2015/09/28/id/693777/
  3. Talent has been depleted on OL and on D by so many players that have left the program who should be here - add to that the injuries on D - not surprising we are here. I would agree wt NUance - we survived a transitional year with a winning record - and to make it more positive, MR had a good recruiting class in spite of (and maybe because of ) the coaching change. That is a net positive. We'll be better next year.
  4. He'll probably end up at Iowa eventually. Hopefully that's the closest he ever gets to Lincoln sure glad he isn't our coach - a dumpster fire worse then Bo would be in the works.
  5. 2nd that, no Big Red Bert. I was kind of hoping for Justin Fuentes who continues to kick butt @ Memphis, but I think Riley was and is an excellent choice, though it came out of left field. His demeanor is more "Osborne-like" as well. Fuentes was a great QB here in Tulsa in his HS years. His was coached well and will be a rising star.
  6. The current majority leader is said to be front runner - McCarthy I don't know much about him. I didn't like Boehner's leadership. He seemed to be more talk than action.
  7. what is the 408? I know it is a reference to Bo but how? Never mind - I just saw the answer in another post above. It makes sense
  8. and 8 dropped balls. I bet we win that game going away wtout the drops - they killed too many drives and placed the D on the field too long and too quickly
  9. Don't forget 99 - our last conf championship - don't make the drought longer than what it is! . Regarding expectations: The last 2 - 3 years of BO I've found I could no longer drink the kool aid - so I'm more tempered and have a wait and see attitude. I hope for improvement every year, but I expect this to be a multi year process to finally end the drought of conf championships. It is obvious that the speed is missing. Yes, I thought we'd walk into the Big 10 and would have won a couple of cc by now. Maybe it speaks about how overrated the Big 12 was at the time - having competed in 2 CCG there under Bo.
  10. While I think we have talent at a few specific areas DPE (when he comes back from injury), a few WRs, Collins and Gerry on D (although Collins hasn't produced up to expectations), it is evident that we need to rebuild. I think some of us, speaking of myself particularly, thought we had better talent coming back by looking at DPE, Westy, Collins and Gerry alone, however, the lack of team speed was too evident on Saturday against Miami and we have too many 'rookies' and walk-ons contributing where seasoned players should be carrying the load. So this is going to be a process. I still look for a 9-4 or at worse 8-5 year but am mentally prepared for worse. Next year will be better and the 3rd year we should be a well oiled machine or so I hope. We need to address the speed issue wt recruiting - you cannot coach it or necessarily develop it. I liked how the guys came back after being down by 23 so that shows a lot of heart, determination and pride. That is important and it was great not hearing the normal excuses from last year after a loss.
  11. .... on defense. There was not much for offensive talent on the 08 team. Joe Ganz Roy Helu Marlon Lucky Quentin Castille Meno Holt Nate Swift Todd Peterson Mike McNeill RB is the only spot that has noticeably more talent. Ganz may have a slight edge over TA in terms of talent but not by a lot. I love the Swift-Peterson-McNeill trio but there is no way they are more talented than Westerkamp-DPE-Carter. Don't forget that the team also had SUH - he was becoming the beast that he was in 2009.
  12. With Walker stepping out, I expect some of his support and followers will flow to Rubio.
  13. Hope: this year was going to be interesting to say the least. I'm looking a head 2 - 3 years.
  14. Add Rubio to the mix and I'd be fine wt that debate. The others are just taking up space and it is a matter of time. I hope the next debate reduces the # down to 6 or fewer. Don't need half of those guys on the stage. And Trump just sucks all of the air out of the room. The problem is that the moderators are more focused on personalities than issues thus too much time trying to get debaters to attack each other - a good diversion from keeping them from attacking the other party.
  15. billed as The court jester in the court of the king
  16. Funny, you put him as a "debate loser" because of this. But out of all the GOP candidates ,he is the only one I could see myself voting for because of this. (and his views on the Iran deal). To each his own, I guess. You mis-understand - I say that because many primary voters will perceive him that way (not having core principles to stand up for) but you validate my point - the general election voters will look more favorable on him because of his stance.
  17. Consider the source. Corn is doing a good job filling up the forum with his anger.
  18. And the costs are... Nothing is ever free and the USA is burdened by its debt already - unsustainable. Bigger minds may look at different ways of 'doing college'. More emphasis on digital university and less on brick and mortar. More emphasis on vo-tech and other non-liberal arts type education - specific targeting certain types of jobs or as BRB says - 2 year degrees. Traditional college education has gotten very expensive in part because of the lack of competition from other methods of education. We now have digital classrooms, libraries, e textbooks, etc. Let's leverage this cost advantage to educate more at less cost - and I say this as a brick and mortar adjunct professor.
  19. So who were your winners and losers last night? Mine: I have more Losers and am ready for these to exit right (even though 2 of them led in the polls going in - Trump and Carson I don't believe are presidential material - Trump by temperament and Carson by experience): 1. Walker - he needed to step up after the lackluster 1st debate. He didn't turn any heads and looks to be the weakest of the governors in the race. He seems to be falling badly and isn't inspiring or evokes passion. He is running on beating the unions in Wisc. He may be the 1st of these top 11 to drop out based on his meter like fall from the top. Money will soon dry up for him like it did for Perry. 2. Trump - while several unscientific after debate polls still show him winning, he came across as un-presidential again. Calling name, acting childish, etc. Still no specific. And what was all of these high 5s? Also, there was a period of the debate where it seemed he lost interest and didn't engage. 3. Kasich - he was stronger in debate 1 and to me he seemed fidgety and showed his 'establishment' colors by not favoring any kind of gov't shut down ( which won't play well wt many conservatives - who will see it as being unprincipled - while it may play better in the general election). He looked tired, and sounded a bit more like a democrat at times. 4. Rand Paul - time for him to get off the stage - added nothing really important - I don't think he has the temperament for the job. 5. Ben Carson - a very likable guy but showed he doesn't have a full grasp of what it takes to be president. Too understated and no real fire. Said he was for the Flat tax but when challenged said he might be open to the Fair tax. He is still formulating his opinions - too late for this at this stage in the game. Flat Liners: 1. Bush - while doing better than last debate by being more engaged, he hasn't said anything to really turn heads or evoke passion. I still think he would have been a better president than his brother. Trump is getting under his skin and it showed last night. 2. Huckabee - he has his followers but will gain no more. He's passionate, can be funny and engaging but only plays to a small segment of the voters 3. Cruz - says all of the right red meat things but comes across as 'programmed'. He looks at the camera and keeps speaking his scripted statements. He would be polarizing as Obama is today- even more so. Gainers: Chris Christy - improved over last debate. While not my guy, I think he was the most effective of the governors last night in communicating his message. Winner: 1. Rubio Marco shows passion, shows knowledge of the big issues, has an excellent delivery without being Cruz like(programmed). He said enough to show that he is both a social conservative and enough to show that traditional repubs don't need to fear him like they would a Cruz, Huckabee or Trump. He comes across as knowing who he is and what he believes. He comes across as the most professional of the Senators and with the best temperament of the 3. As someone said, if he could just look different than someone's teenage son he'd be on top. 2. Fiorina - she gave detailed answers, clear, wt substance (whether you agree wt those answers is a different issue). She showed that she not only belonged on the stage but she may have positioned herself as a strong VP choice if she doesn't win the nomination. She will move into the top tier very soon wt this performance. She 'won' the debate if I had to choose one winner. I could go with a Rubio/Fiorina ticket Youth and an outsider and being a female would benefit the ticket - esp if Hillary is the Dem nominee or Warren becomes a VP pick.
  20. We have one, he'll be back by week 6-8 Any chance DPE ends up wt a medical redshirt instead? - seems like a wasted year if he can only play in 4-5 games. I'd love to have him and maybe he will be all we need to wrap up the division but it would be nice to have him heal fully and be available for 3 full years when MR has more of his recruits, his QB (not taking away from what Tommie has done so far -very impressed by the coaching there) and his system fully implemented. I think back about how Turner was going to be our big threat but he is, after injury, a shell of his former self. On the other side of the argument, one could say that MR will probably recruit another DPE type player so use DPE now while you got him and play him as much as you can - if he recovers well - he may be in the NFL after his Jr season.
  21. I also saw an article about China admonishing the USA to take on more while saying they would take none. I wish I could find that now.
  22. It may be a good time for the world to shoulder some of the burden, this is true. It doesn't always have to be America. Funny how the rest of the world bitches and moans that America acts like the world's Police, but when something like this happens, eyes turn toward America for help. so very true. I think we could and should do more however - some how can we identify those we let in?? The USA is the target of so many and who knows what has come across our southern boarder. I'd like to make sure we don't give a free pass to 'go' to some terrorist hiding himself as a refuge.
