  1. Nebraska - born there Colorado - lived there California - lived there, never will again Arizona - lived here since 93 Oregon Washington Montana Wyoming Idaho Utah Nevada New Mexico Texas South Dakota Illinois Ohio Florida Virginia Pennsylvania New York New Jersey Maryland Connecticut Hawaii 24/50 AND Jamaica, France, Switzerland, Italy, Mexico
  2. Anything Shiner, Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, and Guinness. I will sometimes do a Black and Blue (that's the only way I can drink a Blue Moon; I don't agree with fruit slices in beer), but I prefer a dirty ho (half Guinness, half Hoegarden). If done right, it's fantastic!
  3. Gentleman Jack and Coke; tasty. I went somewhere recently that didn't have the gentleman, so went Crown and Coke instead. I didn't like it as much, but still pretty good. I haven't graduated to anything straight up yet; anything you guys would suggest next time I'm somewhere that doesn't have the gentleman?
  4. Great suggestions, thanks all! Fortunately the team only has 9 kids (one of which is my son), so I can break them into groups of three for drills if necessary. Several parents have offered to assist, plus my older son will be helping when his football season in high school wraps up. The nice thing about this league is that it requires that all kids play the same amount of plays, so I don't have to worry about parents saying that little Johnny isn't getting playing time.
  5. Have any of you coached youth flag football before? I am taking on my first coaching assignment for my son's flag football team, made up entirely of 7 and 8 year olds. So far I've been told that it's going to be like herding cats, but I'm looking for some more helpful advice. Any suggestions on what the first practices should cover? We are in a league that is all about encouragement and the kids having fun, but I want them to be able to learn about the game too. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions; thanks!
  6. For one, I can't believe that it's only 4k for tuition. I'm sending my son there for sure! I'm kind of surprised to see empty seats in the student section too. Heck, even at ASU games that aren't well attended in the dead of summer, the student section is always packed.
  7. I don't think there is any way that he goes to the NFL. His kind of micro-management style will not fly with professional athletes. Texas I could see happening. The opportunity to turn around a prominent program would appeal to anyone's ego, and seriously, what more does he have to accomplish at 'bama?
  8. I agree that Scott doesn't have the experience yet, but I'm not sure that we could draw the high profile coach that we'd all love to see. If Scott is viewed as an "up and comer", I for one would love to see his climb take place here. The two points that I hear about him from people who follow Oregon are that he is extremely well liked by the players and he's a stud in recruiting. Those are two points that would sure be nice to have in place here. Just sayin...
  9. I imagine and hope that we'll see a good effort by the students wearing black, and that could look pretty cool. But asking people who have been wearing red to Husker games for decades to change their personal "tradition" just won't work. As far as how well any "(insert color of choice here) out" works, I'm split. ASU did a black out recently to celebrate them (finally) changing their logo a bit, uniform color combinations etc., and it was well supported. However, the Coyotes in the NHL have a "white out" for every home playoff game, and opposing players have actually said that it doesn't affect them at all. In fact, opposing goalies have actually said that it helps them see the puck better because it really stands out with all of the white as a background. At the end of the day, it's a way to get the fans excited. I would hope that Husker fans don't need a gimmick of any sort to be pumped for this game.
  10. "Thank you for being a friend..." Everybody now!
  11. I liked Jim Mora before, but I have even more respect for him now. The way that he and the team are handling this tragedy is commendable. This is a very difficult situation for a team to go through; hopefully this Saturday will give them an opportunity to "escape" to the football field and some sense of normalcy, at least for a few hours.
  12. I'm loving the DirecTV coverage. Now, if only they could get the disagreement with the Pac12 Network figured out!
  13. Terrible news. Thoughts and prayers to his family and the UCLA program.
  14. I really liked Bradley when he was a Husker. I was hoping that he'd make it here in AZ, but he just didn't play very well here unfortunately. As a Broncos fan, I'd love to see him make the team though!
  15. I don't mind the role of the dark horse. It's also great to see ASU (my alma mater, but always a Husker first!) make the list. It's amazing how many former perennial national powers are now considered dark horses...
  16. I love to hear the talk about speed and athleticism, but ultimately it comes down to fundamentals. It's great that you have the speed to get there, but do you make the play too? Lots of examples that others mentioned last year where this is the case. I'm encouraged to see what this defense can do as a fresh start might be just what we need. If they can make tackles and force turnovers, I'll be very happy.
  17. Wouldn't it be great if the top college athletes just had an ounce of humility? Clowney is a stud, no arguing that. But calling out QBs as scared during media day shows a lack of judgment. It's too early to be putting up bulleting board material. And that hit he made is impressive, but notice that he is completely unblocked. I think most college-level D-lineman that go unblocked in that situation make a similar play. That RB had no chance.
  18. What an incredible game that was. That long TD pass by MSU into double coverage still irritates me. Taylor really is an exceptional talent and will be remembered as one of the greatest Husker QBs. I really appreciate the way he acts after making a big play and scoring a TD. Instead of the "Look at me" type celebration that we see so often, he drops the ball and celebrates with his teammates. That's how it should be done!
  19. Thanks for all of the suggestions so far; they are greatly appreciated! I believe we're staying at the Cornhusker Inn by Marriott; any comments about that place? Truthfully, all I care about is the game, so as long as it has a bed, I'll be happy.
  20. I'm very curious to see how the CoolTurf works with the cork. My son's HS team in plays on the field turf, and the black pellets are brutally hot thanks to the AZ summers. Their turf is getting replaced in a few weeks; maybe it's not too late to go the cork route instead.
  21. Done and done. Also voted for Ravens/Broncos as best game, despite it not going the way I wanted. My wife and I were at that game, and I have never been that cold in my entire life.
  22. Joe, I feel your pain. I kept telling myself that they would turn it around, and it just never happened. Still, it was an amazing game to be at, and it propelled ASU to a title run that year, which was nice to see. All, thanks for the suggestions so far, I really appreciate it! Any suggestions on places to eat near campus Friday and Saturday night?
  23. New to the board, and I'm hoping that you can help me out. I will be making my first trip to see a Husker home game this year (the MSU game) and will be bringing my 15 year old son with me. We are flying in on Friday night, staying less than a mile from the stadium, and leaving Sunday night. Can you recommend anything that we absolutely have to see and/or do? This is a bucket list item for me, so I want to make sure that we take full advantage of the time we have there. I'm hoping that it goes much better than the other time I got to see the Huskers live, the 19-0 debacle against ASU in '96. There I was, in the ASU student section, proudly in my Husker Red. Sigh...thanks everyone!
