They CAN work. But do they work in this instance. It takes a certain level of self awareness for an entity be it person, business, or state to be the subject of a boycott and recognize it is the issue and needs to make a change. When it comes to the far right, and by extension entities ran by the far right, that self-awareness doesn't seem to exist. In this instance I believe it is far more likely the right leaning voters of Georgia will see this as an attack and will see this as validation and vindication pushing them even farther right.

Actions have consequences. Voting has consequences. Do you really think that a baseball game will provide such a huge boon to Atlanta that it will lift the inner city out of poverty? The only people in Atlanta it will hurt are the corporations that stood to make huge money, people who are already rich. That money would have been stashed away for their next yacht, shipped out of Atlanta to their shareholders, or been given out in corporate kickbacks. Not given to their employees and has very little affect on inner city Atlantan's. This move will impact the folks its supposed to impact.

The difference would have been minimal. Was Martinez perfect? Nope, but the lack of a run game, lack of a line, and lack of quality dependable receivers would have left Burrows with an ok season that probably leaves him an undrafted and unheralded free agent, not the Number 1 draft pick. The quarterback on a good team is the most important piece. A quarterback on a bad team is just another cog in the wheel who gets to take the most beating. A great team around a mediocre qb will make that qb a Heisman candidate. A terrible team around an above average qb will make that qb look like they'd be second string at any other school at best.

It's not just that. I write for a profession. When I started, not too long ago, it was recommended that the material I created, for adults, be written at a 4th grade reading level. That recommendation has now fallen to 1st or 2nd grade. Attention spans are shorter, reading comprehension is falling, and language is getting further dumbed down to appeal to the masses, and not just young people. My target audience is boomers.

Alvarez is still so in tune with the football team that as recently as 7 and 9 years ago he named himself interim coach for bowl games during vacancies. I don't know of any other A.D.'s that have/ would do that. I would hate to work under a boss that routinely thought they could do my job better than I did.
