  1. I think he is stepping into a pretty difficult situation. We fired a guy who won 9+ games each year and had people on both sides of the issue. The Callahan/Pelini transition went much easier because almost everyone was done with BC. This transition will be a little tougher because there were still strong supporters of Bo....perception. The hire was nothing anyone thought so of course people are going to be nervous about this hire. The more I keep reading and hearing about this cat, I am pretty excited. I have to disagree with you that he will be eaten alive by the illuminati. The players will back this dude and he will bring in some solid coaches....I really hope! Stay the course my man!!! I dont think there were that many Bo supporters left. Whats going to make this transition difficult is the hire itself. We would all be singing a different tune had we landed a proven winner. We got the exact opposite and now everyone is "hoping" what we did is right. "Hope" is not a strategy (unless you are running for president). By making this hire the pressure cooker just got hotter for the simple fact that this guy is coming into an environment now were people are already skeptical. At the first sign of trouble this thing is going to turn on its head. Had we hired a proven winner that would not be the case. Again, I hope I am wrong. But you're making the assertion that Mike Riley isn't a proven winner. Given the significant disadvantages Oregon State faced in the Pac-12--probably the less talented team when compared to all but 2 or 3 teams (Wazzu, Colorado, maybe Utah), 93-80 is pretty solid, and a record I don't believe BP could have achieved. Mike is now the head coach at Nebraska, a team that talent wise, is probably the 3rd or 4th best team in the conference (Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State) but coaching wise probably had one of the worst staffs in the conference. It is within reason to assume that Mike will come in here and win. He has all the intangibles and now has the resources. I am making the assertion Mike Riley isnt a proven winner based on his record of past performance. You are making the assertion he is a winner by including a bunch of excuses in order to arrive at the hope he will do well. All I'm saying is we are at a point in this programs history where taking an unkown was not a wise decision. I hope I'm wrong. Count me in that boat as well. I don't dislike the hire but I am disappointed as I thought we would be getting a proven winner for a HC. To me there is too many what ifs on both the pros and cons side of things with Mike. That's a dangerous game to be playing with the current state of the program.
  2. I have a similar feeling. It's been stated before but this seems in part to be a move to eliminate the rift between the fans and the program - bring in a guy so nice he's hard to dislike, regardless of his performance. Where my concern lies is that we potentially hired another guy who is going to be more of a father figure/friend, than coach. I'm not saying he will turn out this way but we all saw how well that worked out with the last coach we had.
  3. Don't have the twitter, are the players saying anything about the hire?

Actually very welcoming and ready to get started. Rose was the first to jump on board, he is a great leader.

The few I've seen have been positive. DPE, Michael Rose-Ivey, couple others.

Finnin, Kieron-Williams, Hannon, Rielly, Chris Jones are some more I've seen.

  4. So many questions How much wood can a woodchuck chuck? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop? Why is the sky blue? Are you my father? The list just keeps going
  5. Because he's a classless tool. Nobody in the B1G liked the guy, and even Wisconsin fans weren't sad to see him leave. How hard is that to understand? That's exactly it. Great coach, horrible person. I've talked to a few different people who have met ol Bert in person and he cares about NO ONE other than himself. At least Bo cared about the players. Talk about not fitting the culture...
  6. $12 million buyout not true: @footballscoop: Bielema’s buyout today is $2.5M, drops to $2M in Jan. Edit: I suck at the twitter but footballscoop just tweeted this
  7. One things for sure, I'd really like to see what Shaw could do with Imani
  8. Can't post a link as it's my betting website, and I really don't wanna post a link.. But I wouldnt take the time to write all that done. I copied and pasted it. How do we know this is legit if we can't view the site? I can't find these odds anywhere... Just checked on my betting website to see if it was consistent and all the numbers are exactly the same. It's legit.
  9. Sending one coach out to recruit is "breaking" news? I love it! Cue the breakdown of what this really means Heard Warren is going to be our new HC
  10. McElwain the leading candidate for Florida HC..cross him off the list

  11. McElwain the leading candidate for Florida so we can probably cross him off the list: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/24853309/report-colorado-states-jim-mcelwain-a-leading-candidate-for-florida
  12. I'm definitely still in agreement that there is lots of talent on both sides of the ball. In fact I still think were pretty even with the likes of Wisconisin, they're just leaps and bounds ahead of us coaching wise. Who looked like the more talented team in that first quarter before adjustments were made? Certainly wasn't Wiscy IMO. My question was mainly more directed at if there is a position on either side of the ball, where we are just really lacking in talent (whether it's the wrong starters or horrible recruiting) so much that it wouldn't matter if we had the best coaches in CFB, that position would still struggle.
  13. Most of us are in agreement that something needs to change from the coaching aspect of the team but aside from that, are there some personnel deficiencies that are holding us back as a team? What positions do we either not have the right/good enough players for on both sides of the ball? I'm inclined to say the offensive line is the main problem on offense. However, I'm not sure it's so much that we don't have the right players, so much as it is we don't have the right ones starting. Armstrong is another offensive inconsistency. Would he make a jump if our line had better pass blocking? On defense besides Zaire (who's been a beast), I have been rather unimpressed with our linebackers. Are our struggles here a scheme issue or does it come back to not having the right players? Our secondary hasn't been terrible but they've definitely had their struggles. I like Josh Mitchell, he's just too small to make a lot of the plays we need him to make but he's a senior and "knows the defense". Should we have different players starting in the secondary? What personnel changes do you guys think we should make, if any?
  14. Pretending you don't have a NE bias - If you're a coach that has a choice to be HC at NE or HC at UM, which school do you choose?

Michigan. They have recruiting and more history than we do.

Michigan because of recruiting, but they do not have more history (after leather helmets) than we do.

  15. While it would probably suck to have him leave after a few years, I'll take every moment of success Nebraska can have at this point. Even if it is only for a couple years. At least if we could get back on the right path, it could make it easier to find a new HC after that who most would be satisfied with. Edit:Assuming there isn't already a HC already in the waiting.
  16. Agreed. Its not a horror show. Its drama. The character driven episodes are what make the show. Otherwise you are just watching a group of people get devoured that you dont care about. I like being pissed when they kill off a character I liked. Would anybody have given two shakes Bob got killed off unless they gave us a detailed back story? I agree with that, it's just been rather boring these last couple episodes. I'm really hoping that they are building up for the next couple episodes, in which case I am completely fine with these types of episodes. I just never know what to expect with this show. Sometimes they do a great job building up to things, other times it's like what was the point of all that? I'm hoping it's not the latter.
  17. My order of Surge just came. Monday just got a little bit better.

  18. This show is going downhill about as fast as the Huskers. The last two weeks episodes have been terrible.
  19. Another article written by a Wisconsin doucher trying to excuse the behavior of their fans: http://thevictorylapblog.com/2014/11/nebraska-fans-dont-want-come-madison-anymore-badger-fans-mean/ The more of this crap I read, the more I hope we just utterly destroy them this weekend.
  20. Great movie. They are supposed to be working on a second one as well.
  21. I'm sure there will be some offensive dropoff without Abdullah but we should be just fine. We still have Newby, Taylor, Wilbon and possibly KBJ who will all likely see playing time next year. I don't think there will be much defensive dropoff, even with the loss of Gregory. Yes, the line won't likely be as stout but gaining back the starters we lost this year (C-Jax, Rose, Alexander), we will be upgrading the talent at other positions to hopefully keep even keel with where we are now. If the rest of this season plays out the way we all hope it will, I absolutely think we turn the corner. I respect that you're hopeful but losing Ameer alone is just plain huge. His backups are nowhere near him in terms of skill. I definitely agree the backups are nowhere near where Ameer is talent wise right now. Since Newby is the only one who has actually seen playing time in college, it's too hard to say about the other two but I think Newby has very close to, if not basically the same ceiling for talent as Ameer. I think he makes a similar jump that Ameer made between his Sophomore and Junior seasons. So while I don't expect Ameer's production next year, I still say we will be okay as the backs we have should be more than serviceable. Couple that with hopefully a big jump from Armstrong and it should be another exciting season.
