  1. I wonder why it wouldn't have gone over well. Not saying that these evaluations are the end-all-be-all indicator of talent and athleticism, but wouldn't athletes at that caliber want something tangible to look at and see how they compare? It doesn't make sense. Unless there are some on the team still fighting tooth and nail against the coaching staff.
  2. I just watched POB's HUDL video. He locks on to the first read almost every throw. But hey, at least he throws off his front foot.
  3. If you've read a single report about the impact concussions have on the brain and what it does to an individual long term, you'd be singing a different tune. No offense, but adding the word 'liberal lawyers' (like they have anything to do with it?) and calling him a pu&&y makes you look pretty ignorant about the topic. You clearly don't understand the topic and come off looking not so great. You missed the point. Your argument is essentially that football is too violent and damaging to the brain, and that it perhaps needs to be re-examined as a sport. It's a conversation worth having, but the OPs point is that it doesn't make sense for a guy who feels that way to be calling a football game. It would be rather like having Sunday services led by a "pastor" who does nothing more than rant about the evils of organized religion. If Ed Cunningham thinks football is a brutal sport and too violent and dangerous, he shouldn't be calling games on TV. If you can't understand that, it's you who doesn't look "so great." My point was by using 'liberal lawyers' and calling him a pu&&y was immature. Like there's some agenda attacking football from the left. OP looks ignorant when using those terms. Not football specifically but the political left tends to be much softer and more bleeding heart that the right, for better or worse. Our participation-ribbons-to everyone, don't-criticize-anyone culture is brought to you by liberals. I have no doubt in my mind that Ed Cunningham probably gets walked all over by everyone he encounters and pays over MSRP for his cars. Coincidentally or not, I suspect he's a Democrat. I could argue about masculinity in relation to political roles, but I won't go there. Point is, studies are proving that football is dangerous. I love the sport and want to see it protected anyway possible, if that means not adding additional games then so be it. Because going forward, studies are only going to show that football is more dangerous to the brain than the previous study. This is a great point you make. If each study done only shows that football is more dangerous than previously thought, eventually football will be more hazardous than war. At what point does it stop then? Because if a game is changed enough, it's not the same game. It has to stop somewhere to protect the integrity of the game. One look at the game and the average person knows that it's dangerous, and that's partly what makes it worth watching. Should we do everything we can to protect the players? From an equipment standpoint, yes. From changing the game standpoint, no. If players don't want to accept the risks associated with it, then don't play the game. There is a political side to this as well, and Ed Cunningham plays one side of it, which annoys a lot of fans.
  4. Next season the goal will be to have a bowl outside of Florida or California Next season, the goal should be to actually deserve a bowl. Not steal a "win" on a horrifically bad call and then get a bid to a bowl game out of pity. Fact is, we do NOT deserve a bowl this year. We should be more ashamed than excited. Next up: participation trophies and orange slices...count me out. Missouri is the only team with enough class to say thanks but no thanks. your not a player or a coach so drop the "we" sh#t. this team didn't beg to get a bowl game but as things are they did. Ucla got the same treatment a few years back. Extra practice time wont hurt. Neither are you, that said, as a fan, I use "we" generically to describe the fan base. You know the same people who are tripping all over themselves after "beating" MSU and "deserving" a bowl game. The difference between you and I, is that I am intellectually honest about the state of our program and don't typically flame other posters. This post is self defense. We do not deserve a bowl game. Not even close. But, after UCLA beats the crap out of "The Huskers" (note, I didn't say us)...I will have the last laugh. That will officially be rock bottom. We should not play in this game. But whatever, put on your rose-colored glasses and enjoy the well-deserved game, and carry on. GBR. [edit] Sorry, I also think we should run, not walk, back to the Big Twelve. I don't think we will ever fit in in the B1G. We just don't get the respect we deserve. [Oops, used we again, please replace with Nebraska] Are you even a fan? If you are why would you "laugh" after a loss?
  5. It's very amusing to me how aggressive people who say yes are being....It's a thread asking for peoples opinion, if you can't handle differing opinions then get off the internet. I think a big part of it is whether this is actually a debatable topic. To hold going to a bowl over the team as if it's some carrot on a stick. Then, when they actually get invited to a bowl, regardless of record, not accept the invite. It really doesn't make any sense.
  6. So many here are self-righteous ego maniacs. The whole landscape of college football has changed. There is a playoff now, and more bowls which bring in money to communities that support them. The bowls take the best teams, and if that team is 5-7, instead of 6-6 who cares? Take the bowl, it's a no-brainer. The team worked hard, the seniors put their time in, and their effort deserves the reward.
  7. When will Western Civilization wake up and realize that Islam is at war with it? It's sad that after 9/11 something like this can still happen.
  8. Do you have something that backs that up? Just curious.
  9. I expertly pick an upset. Nebraska rolls Michigan St. Time to start the turnaround. It has to happen sometime right?
  10. If I could go to the game I would. I will be yelling and screaming at my tv instead, on every single play. I think your bolded statement inspired me. If we are going down, might as well go down screaming and yelling the whole way.
  11. Not sure where BC's recruiting class was ranked at this point in his first season. But I remember saying to myself back then that things were looking up because at least this guy was pulling in a great class. It was something tangible that you could look at and glean some hope from during a terrible season. I think the problem we are having, a lot of us, is there is nothing tangible we can look at and point to and say, "see, it might be bad now, but the future is looking bright." I'm right there with you, give me something, anything to believe in right now.
  12. The fans? You mean the people who show up to support the team every single game, buy the merchandise, watch it on tv, donate millions, etc? Those people are 15% of the reason why the team has a 3-6 record? Did you see that fan jack up the hail mary pass in the BYU game? He lost that one for us. What about that fan that threw the pick against Miami? What a terrible fan. That fan did a terrible job managing the clock against Illinois, he cost us the game. I don't see the logic here. i lost the Purdue game for us I'm off the hook. YES!! I'm convinced Illinois was my fault. I came in from hunting and forgot to put on my lucky shirt until midway through the game.
  13. 3rd and short has, Post-Championship become a "passing down" . That's the whole problem. We are now a passing team. BLECH (I know what u were saying, not directed at you) I did not realize this. I just know that when we line up on 3rd and 1 with an empty backfield, the next play is most likely going to be a punt.
  14. The fans? You mean the people who show up to support the team every single game, buy the merchandise, watch it on tv, donate millions, etc? Those people are 15% of the reason why the team has a 3-6 record? Did you see that fan jack up the hail mary pass in the BYU game? He lost that one for us. 15. He literally did not say most of what you just posted. Listen to it again. He says 2 or 3 times that husker fans have a right to be upset at the results, just not to go overboard and act like hate-spewing idiots. He does go on a rant about the negativity coming from the message boards and then turns around and says we have a right to be upset. Which makes no sense. He spends time defending Riley's coaching, and says we should be impressed by what he did at OSU. He does say that Mike Riley was "Universally" thought of as a good coach. I was commenting on the above. He literally did not say what I posted, because it is my commentary. But hey, let's all take advice from the MSU radio guy. He's obviously got our best interests in mind when he speaks.
  16. That was pretty funny. I'm somewhat surprised to see some of these guys speaking so candidly about the state of affairs right now.
  17. I understand that this is Riley's first year as a head coach, and he should be given some time to adjust. That doesn't mean the fans and media have to accept what's going on and pretend all is well. I don't understand why some guy would go on the radio and try to defend the coaching that has taken place here this year. Coaching alone has lost this team at least 3 games. The decisions on third and short, which for some reason is almost always a passing down, is mind boggling. I also don't know about the part where Mike Riley was universally thought of as a good coach. Maybe at one point in time this was true. It's certainly not true now. Just go ask some Beaver fans.
  18. Just making the point that big programs can slide into mediocrity, regardless of the circumstances.
  19. GO BIG RED! Beat the Spartans!
  20. SMU was huge, and they failed. Along with a number of other teams. Here is an honest question, and also the reason why so many are at the tipping point now. When you say that Nebraska will continue to have great coaches and great football teams, what in the last 14 years convinces you of that? And where were those great coaches and teams during that span? You are right about college football being entertainment. But it's also something that the people of Nebraska can identify with and take pride in. And it's certainly not a waste of time, at least not to the 90k who pack the stadium and the millions more who watch on tv.
  21. I think the amount of openings out there now is probably the biggest factor in whether NU should look for a new coach. There will be a lot of competition for the best talent. SE had a decent shot at landing a proven coach last year and blew it. If Riley is fired this year, any relevant, perspective coaches will have their choice of institutions. Unfortunately, I think we would end up on the losing end of a lot of those deals.
  22. The fans and bloggers sure did a number when they hired Solich, Callahan, Pellini and Riley. Then, they doubled up and fired Solich, Callahan and Pellini. In between all the hiring and firing, they played, coached and lost a bunch of games as well as diminish the brand of Nebraska football. Those darn fans and bloggers, always up to no good! Pretty soon those same fans and bloggers will quit packing the stadium every football Saturday as well, and put a nail in the coffin of the final nationally relevant record that Nebraska has. But wait, that hasn't happened yet. Can you explain why? Nebraska hasn't finished as a Top 10 team since 14 years ago - 2001. Most students at NU can't even remember that! It is time that you do a reboot to the new reality. Huh? What does anything in your post have to do with what I said?
