  1. I hadn't realized the team had so many names. There are over half a dozen from a quick search online. It would be cool if we had some throwback uni's to reflect on one (thinking the long-lived Bugeaters mainly) but I would guess we'll see those mirror helmets first.
  2. I always think of rotating OL to go along with this tempo (though subbing would obviously not play into that so well during separate possessions). Was Oregon one of the teams that subsituted often during games? I know Oklahoma was one of the rare college football teams that did (does?).
  3. Thanks! Frazier's my #1 and I've told him so in person. I see the link I meant to share didn't take so I guess I need to try and edit RQ.
  4. I was wondering when Gdowski was going to show up ITT. He only started one season and, no matter how great it was, I don't think that gets you into "best ever" company. Van Brownson didn't even get as many starts as Gdowski. Humm threw a lot of picks (equal to the number of touchdowns he threw for basically). I completely agree with you about Lord as a passer, though. Only Crouch (4) and Martinez (9) made the top 10 for rushing yards in a career. Lord (8) is the only QB to make the top 10 for rushing yards in a single season. Martinez (9) is the only QB to make the top 10 for rushing yards in a single game. Crouch (1), Frazier (6), Taylor (7), and Martinez (9) are the only QB's to make the top 10 for rushing touchdowns in a career. Crouch (3, 7, & 8) and Frost (4) are the only QB's to make the top 10 for rushing touchdowns in a single season. Martinez (4) is the only QB to make the top 10 for rushing touchdowns in a single game. Crouch is the only QB to place in the top 10 for total points in a career (3) and total points in a single season (5 & 7). I went to Wiki to get some other rankings for this discussion. I guess that there would be more than ten for some categories, with ties, so I apologize for some false advertising below. That's tied with Taylor Martinez per my quick finger count. Crouch made the lists 11 times (though I'd give him 12 because he also makes the all-purpose yards list). Frazier made them just 4 times. Stats aren't everything, of course, but they mean something. Here's a fun article I found while looking for a QB ranking list based on winning percentage: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/622010-big-red-reasoning-and-signal-calling-ranking-the-top-20-nebraska-quarterbacks
  5. I'm really confused about this whole S+P' stat. The guy writes that it's a defensive one but then ties it to an offensive scheme? Can anyone explain, please?
  6. Damn it, guys! When are you going to give the right person credit for that OB win in 1995? http://omahamagazine.com/articles/dave-webber/
  7. I'm with Brophog on this one. TO was an innovator. The power running game was certainly always there but we might pick a team apart with our WR's one week and the TE's the next (talking about the dynastic stretch). Part of that obviously had to do with our talent level back then, to be fair. We may have looked more like Wisconsin along the way but, at that point, most football teams did...and we just did it better.
  8. Scout.com ranked Tommy as the fifth-best QB prospect in the nation coming out of HS. I already commented on his peer rating in a response to HH in this thread.
  9. All I was responding to was your assertion that we haven't had a "game changer" at QB in a long time. It would seem that you're admitting TA was one now but you're trying to argue some other points about him. I'm not sure I'm following any of them but it seems like you're saying that: 1) he wasn't an all-time Husker great; and 2) I'd have rather had at least five B1G contemporaries of TA's in place of him at NU. As for the first point, I don't think I have to do much more than point at the career stats to support that he belongs in the conversation. I'd never argue TA was the greatest NU QB of all time but, as I shared in my original response to you, he did a lot relative to his situation. Neither Lord nor Joseph belongs in the list of quarterbacks you shared either. They were option quarterbacks, for one thing, such that "taking them" over the guys who've played more recently wouldn't have worked out too well. Jammal's career high for completions in a game was 12. Mickey's best passing game, per Wiki (because Huskers.com doesn't have a bio page for him), was against Kansas when he completed 7 of 16 for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Jammal only started a couple of seasons. Mickey's injuries meant he didn't complete one. TA started 8 games his (redshirt) freshman year, won in the Big House, and earned the starting role the next three seasons. Your second point is ridiculous (if I'm reading you correctly). Who are all these great quarterbacks in the conference? I would consider J.T. Barrett (or Cardale Jones?) from Ohio State but Connor Cook is the only other name that's even worth bringing up and part of that has to do with his having made it to the NFL. Where are you getting "a handful"? As for the Heisman talk, I don't think it's so far-fetched. What I wrote was this: "I feel like TA could have been a Heisman contender in a better program." Are you trying to argue that TA couldn't have put up big numbers (to put him in the Heisman conversation) at, for example, Ohio State? Do you think only absolute superstars win the Heisman? I think some people don't watch enough other games (aside from Nebraska's) and get a false sense of how many great quarterbacks there are.
  10. FBS has too many teams for us (130 right now) to be dipping down another level, imo, but maybe this is the new status quo? Texas alone has a dozen football programs classified as belonging to the top division: Texas Texas A&M Rice Houston UTEP UTSA Texas State North Texas Baylor TCU Texas Tech SMU Getting back to the matter of the status quo, I did a quick bit of math to determine that there were 98 games played between FBS and FCS teams last (this) season. If no FBS team played more than one FCS team, that would mean 75% of FBS programs played a game against an FCS team. Based on what I'm looking at on cfbstats.com, it would appear that's the case. The following B1G teams didn't play this kind of cupcake in 2017: Illinois Iowa Michigan Michigan State Minnesota Nebraska Northwestern Ohio State Penn State Purdue Wisconsin That's almost 80% of the conference, such that we're bucking the national trend. Here's the SEC list: Florida I suppose that's enough for now...
  11. That's fair, too. I remember the Texas fans calling him Mexi-Jesus for a time. It's tough trying to live up to messianic (sp?) expectations.
  12. Tommie Armstrong The kind of QB you're talking about is rare anywhere. If it was so easy, Alabama would have a stockpile. I mostly wanted to respond because Tommy Armstrong earned more respect than that, though. He did a lot, relative to what he could do with the hand he was dealt at NU, as evidenced by the excerpt below from Huskers.com. I feel like TA could have been a Heisman contender in a better program. As it was, the first two MR seasons could have been a lot worse. I've seen it argued that TA was the wild card that made Riley's offense viable during that stretch (because other coaches had already figured it out). 13. I don't know that I saw Mike Rozier's field reversal near the goal line that saw him score a TD. There's a Mike Rozier tribute video on YouTube that has it.
  14. I heard they were going after size but GOOD LAWD!
  15. I just want the kids to stop beating themselves. If we lose, I want to be able to cheer as the victors go by...because our kids made them earn it. The results will take care of themselves if we can get back to taking care of the little things. NU has generally won with that formula. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
  16. I was going to go with it but I saw someone already shared it. That season was the first I could recall.
  17. I think I saw a wilder play, along these lines, earlier in the video but this was the one I remembered: 2:32 mark of this one (having technical difficulties) Pass while in the grasp
  18. How is it we're still not tired of talking about MR? I figured I was in the majority of folks who just wanted to turn the page since 17-21 (score from when those DeKalb kids visited).
  19. Yeah, the last November game played in Indiana (between the two) was 1959. I guess there was an agreement between the powers that be around that time. I guess I was wrong and the game could technically be played on Halloween, as it's still October then, but the point stands.
  20. What about the "heartland" of the USA? I was surprised to hear Indiana and Ohio weren't part of the Midwest as well.
  21. I get irritated by the way Notre Dame allows U$C to dictate the terms of the schedule in regard to weather. They have to visit before Halloween if the game's in Indiana. I don't think the Irish should let them get away with not being a real football team.
  22. That 2015 Iowa game was a rough one. I thought I bundled up pretty well but my feet were freezing in just a pair of tube socks and sneaks. p.s. - The passing game was overdone that day. There was no call for having TA throw it 45 times.
  23. A guest on the Sharp and Benning show yesterday (or maybe he was subbing for Gary?) mentioned that Nebraska.247sports.com had the goods so I thought I'd be able to find it here. Anyone have the 411? Maybe that's a paid access thing there? I tried looking around on my phone there last night to no avail. p.s. - I'm not so sure there are no stupid questions. At least we're having fun. The only detail I neglected to share was this dude on S&B indicated the information came from a recruit.
  24. In looking at spreads, I think I like Northwestern and Ohio State best. BC is closer on paper to Iowa than 3, I think, and we all know Michigan State can punch above their weight sometimes. I voted 6 above. http://www.sportsline.com/college-football/odds/
