Penn State has 3 conference titles since 1999. I find it very hard to be critical of another program, especially when we are crying out to have a taste of the kind of success they have had over that span (in spite of their awful behavior).

I am legitimately concerned that the problems extend much deeper than merely lack of good coaching.

I believe Franklin to the job before the sanctions were lifted My point isn't whether WE feel like a given school is competition for the top coaches, rather, whether the coaches view it as such? If you are the next hot coach, aren't you looking at a ton of factors like, location, recruiting base nearby, quality of the program you are inheriting, quality of life, on and on.

Franklin went to Penn State in the midst of their sanctions, granted the NCAA began removing them during his first year, but still. Post season ban, scholarship restrictions... Not saying I think Ole Miss is going to be perceived as better (or on par) with us, just food for thought. It's a new era.

Gary Anderson has quit, literally quit on two teams in 3 years. Why on earth would anyone mention his name?

Who are we really competing against? Florida Tennessee Ole Miss Oregon State Georgia Southern UTEP I think the line falls between Ole Miss and the rest, but things just got interesting in Arkansas. There's going to be a bunch more coaching changes in the next few weeks.

Satellite radio coverage has been wall-to-wall Tennessee opening since last night. One point they keep making is Frost only has a minute of HC experience and plays AAC schedule. Big question marks that may not translate to Power 5. Has options to stay, go to Florida or Tenn. both areas with better recruiting closer to home than us. I just don't see him as the savior we want to think he is. Then again, they are also suggesting $10MM to Gruden (zero college HC exp.) to coach Tenn, so take it for what it's worth!

There is literally no set of circumstances that can save Riley's job at this point.

It just doesn't matter. If we haven't started talking to the new coaches that we are targeting, then Moos should be fired immediately. There isn't a person on the planet who legitimately thinks Riley is on staff next season.

Reading the papers after the game, I am left wondering...when was the last time a Husker team played with heart? 1999? Certainly not since joining the Big Ten. That's the problem. In my opinion, its partly our fault (fans). The blind reliance on "tradition" or "history" has allowed those who actually play the games to rest on a reputation that was earned decades ago. That doesn't translate to the field. Look at Auburn today. Did they play like they were the underdog? Nope. They brought their woodshed and took the Bulldogs behind it for 60 minutes. It's a new world, I'm concerned that our program hasn't figured that out. GBR (with a few tears)

I am adjusting my expectations of the "success" of our program for the foreseeable future. Let's just say that can't go any lower than, hope DONU isn't the worst team in the West.

Coaches coach. But players play. If we can't get a yard on a draw play that tells me that our players just aren't good.

OMG. this board is worse than watching the team play. there is one way to become relevant again, win. win games, win big games, win our division and win the conference. Consistently. Look at that other team that wears red, they are on the cusp of what their 5th trip to Indy in 7 years? that is the only way we become nationally relevant again. sellout streak is fine, but it really doesn't matter. winning. that matters.
