  1. he should be at his Career level of 500 at seasons end...
  2. It will certainly take time. the biggest plus for Riley is that he seems to be a good recruiter and he is willing to make major changes to his staff. the biggest weakness seems to be his getting out-coached and under preparing his team for games (and poor clock management). He was not out coached by UW, however physically his team was not prepared for a 4 quarter (defense) brawl. I only watched a few minutes of the OSU game (late in Q4) and I couldn't understand why when the game was way out of hand, Riley's OC kept calling for pass plays, geeze, run the ball, kill as much clock as possible so you can get out of game healthy. instead we see game extending incomplete pass plays... Either way it was still 3 and out for the most part.
  3. Would Frost even want to come to NU? if I remember correctly, after Bo was let go, Frost said it was not interested in the NU HC job.
  4. NU can beat Minnesota, Northwestern and Purdue, We have to play error free to do that (can anyone believe that is how far we have fallen as program??). Receivers cannot let passes go through their hands and hit them in the helmet so the other teams D can intercept them. That one Tanner had in the first drive was on the receiver 100%, not Tanner.
  5. if anyone should have taken out a full page ad and thanked NU for his job it's Harvey Pearlman. Think about where NU football has gone under his watch, the firing of not one but two 9-3 head coaches only to be follow by the AD's man (AD who Harv hired) had losing seasons. If you really want to look at the goat who sold out NU, it is Harv. Now we witnessed what NU used to do to other teams when we played U Dub. I saw a team that just flat ran out of gas in the fourth quarter on defense, I watch a career 500 coach act surprised he is under the gun. It is just sad that the president of NU and the ruling body allowed Pearlman to keep his job. The only thing Harvey did that was smart was bringing Tom in as AD. But Harvey following his own rule, hired a clone of Steve Pederson to be AD. fires a 9-3 head coach (admitting has sideline issues) but he was still 9-3. Steve Pederson part 2 goes on a self guided tour to find a 9-3 head coaches replacement and hires the nicest coach in America however that coach as never proven he can win a the college level. I have no doubt that Mike is an excellent x's and o's guy but he seems perfectly comfortable losing games (guess a long career of that would get any coach comfortable losing). Harvey's piss poor stewardship of NU isn't limited to Football. Under his watch NU was kicked out of an illustrious academic group that all other big 10 schools belong. Now here we are at the brink of yet one more coaching change (were are we, 5 coaches since 2003?) and a team that can no longer compete with the U Dub's of the college football universe. Whoever takes over the helm of our Team has a huge mountain to climb. As a fan, I have gotten to the point where I just want them to be competitive. I can hardly believe I could type that! I will always be a Husker fan and will never root for them to lose so a coach can be terminated. However we are years away from being relevant in the college football universe. And Harvey, that is on you!! Sorry all for my rant, Peace!! and GO BIG RED!!!!
  6. it will sell out but there may be lots of fans dressed as empty seats.
  7. are you saying you're happy with a 500 coach who's living up to his record???? As for the AD, this is HIS MESS!! he brought Riley in, he needs to develop a plan to fix it or be a man and resign. as for other sports, its more he stayed out of the way. Volleyball was fine before his arrival The football program under his leadership in in the toilet. I see no reason to say give him more time.
  8. Eichhorst needs to be canned, this is his mess!
  9. Riley needs to go back to OR St, however from what I read in the past they don't want him back.
  10. we have slid so far down the mediocrity scale under Riley that I would love to have Callahan back (never thought I would say that). If you think this year is a bust, wait until next year. the cross over schedule is worse. It is very disappointing and painful to realize dear ol' NU program is now the same caliber as Purdue of recent years and Rutgers today.
  11. anyone got a "For Sale" sign we can put up in Riley's front yard?
  12. This is what happens when you have a career 500 coach who is "OK" with losing. this is exactly what he in when he coached the Chargers. However for all the Riley apologists out there.. he is the nicest head coach in America. this may be the season where the sell out streak ends. to be honest, I don't see any sure wins on NU''s schedule with this staff. It is obvious to me now, we are at the same level as Rutgers. Illinois and Purdue are now most likely loses. Wisky, OSU, Penn State, Iowa are going to be embarrassing blowouts if "the nicest coach in America" cannot earn his paycheck and right this ship.
  13. not much of a chance, I think we will be very lucky with this defense to win 7. 5 loses Ducks, Wisky, OSU, Penn St, Iowa.. and the way Purdue is playing maybe 6 loses. Riley is a .500 coach and this is looking like a .500 team at best.
  14. No lose is acceptable this this team.. if we lose this one, Riley and Co need to head back to OR. and quickly, also include that sorry AD who hired him in this "get out of town and don't let the door hit you on the butt on your way out" message.
  15. so, 25 pass attempts in first half, then 8 in second half. yep! the ducks coasted in the second half. nearly bit them in the butt but they were coasting..
  16. that the Ducks took their foot off the gas in the second half and made our defense look way better than it really is.
  17. Several things, Tanner Lee stuggles under pressure, two of the 4 INT's were not his fault, however there were several more potential INTs that OR dropped so... OR took their foot off the gas in the second half. how many passes did they attempt in second half compared to first half? Mike Riley and his OC cannot manage the game clock.. less then 1 minute to go in first half and we had to punt?? three pass attempts.. Never thought I would say this... Kevin Cozgroves defenses were way better then Diaco's (at this point). We still have the nicest 500 career coach in College football. we will be lucky to win 7 games this year if the defense doesn't want to show up. (most likely losing to Ohio State, Wisky, Penn State, Iowa) Purdue is looking better, so maybe we make it to 500?? (Sarcasm off).
  18. never understood why Amani wasn't used more, guess it is the running backs coach who decides who is in and who is bench riding? Amani has always been the short-yardage guy. I think he is under utilized...
  19. While I still think Reilly is not the right coach for this job, have to give him credit for getting a signature win over a top 10 opponent. something Bo never did. Still, how to you lose (actually get beat down) to Perdue and then beat Mich St?? the world may never now.
  20. This is something Bo Pelini would say... And then True would lambast him for it. Haha! Yep you guys are right and it is funny. Key difference here though and I know most of you won't get it or even care to read this, but the big difference is that I supported Bo for about the first 5 years. Hell, f#*k that, I even supported Bo in his final year when he swore he had seen the light and some changes were coming. 7 years in, we watched the same team do the same stuff in the same schemes. If you can't respect the difference there, then piss off and quit talking to me. I do see the difference. Except, we're doing the same things, and worse. If it was bad for Bo, it has to be bad for Riley too. Not sure how much to put on Coach Riley and his staff yet. Watching the games, the players are there, they are in position to succeed. They are not executing and they are not making plays. Too many experts here throwing the coaches under the bus and not even talking about the players. A defensive back watches the WR catch the ball and then misses the tackle, and tha'ts the coaches fault? Ryker throws a pick on a horrible pass and the first and following comments here are about Langsdorf? Gimme a break guys, these players are really doing a poor job this year. Period. It's all about how much ownership you think Riley and his staff have in this team and right now, I seriously question how much this is "their team". Coaches need to put the players in position to succeed. Purdue has the worst rush D in the B1G, and we abandoned the run. Our secondary has been torched by every QB we've faced, Banker says "oh, we can make adjustments" and we continue to put them on islands and put them in position to fail. It's not just the fans questioning what's going on. It's former players and analysts across the country. As a leader/manager/boss it is YOUR JOB to put people under you in the best position possible to succeed. Even if you don't have a team of rock stars, you do what you can. Nebraska isn't doing that. A defensive back watches the WR catch the ball and then misses the tackle, and tha'ts the coaches fault? I think there is a lot of fault to go around. I do think the coaches set the tone and define the standards. In the case of the DB, was he taught to stay on the WR or to play the ball? There is some technique that needs to be taught. I would imagine that the DB's attitude and ego need some coache's attention also. The pass defense has been a problem since the first game. What improvement or changes have been made? you made a great case for why these coaches stink!! they have made zero change to scheme/technique when it comes to the DB's. The DB's are left on an island alone, the D-Line isn't getting to the QB so the DB's resemble toast (always getting burnt). That is on the Coaches!!! did you see that level of defensive play week in and week out since Cozgrove left town? Banker is a horrible DC. Doesn't make any adjustments and, like Cozgrove, tries to make the player fit his scheme instead of adjusting scheme to put his players into position to succeed... Then, the HC doesn't lift a finger to make a change... the players (and fans that pay these coaches salary) deserve better.
  21. I could drive 20 miles pretty sure I cannot run that far.. feel for ya! good luck.
  22. the best thing I saw today, was that the kids kept playing!! they know they are going down in Husker history for all the wrong reasons.. Hope Person El is going to be ok, sounds like he blew out his knee.. these kids deserve better coaches.. we deserve a better AD and President. Fire Harvey Pearlman and Shawn Eichorst!! quote from Eichorst that he will regret forever.. Bo was "fired because he couldn't win the games that mattered" I guess shawn's new quote.. "None of Mike Riley's games matter!!" so I don't need to fire him.... Of course the sun shine pumpers will blame all this on the kids!!
  23. Im so glad I sold my tickets the Perdue game.. I would have had to wear a shame bag for these coaches. Bo was embarrassing but this is much more worse.. We make Perdue look like they are ranked in top 10...
  24. What do we get when you hire a head coach that has never won much in his career and barely above 500? first time in NU history that we lose six games before November!!! Yet one more record setting season for a staff that is used to losing!!!
  25. Even the sunshine pumping cool aide drinkers cannot believe this is nothing but bad coaching. Perdue is a BAD team.. unbelievable.
