  1. Was just looking for these stats. Thanks for posting. So clearly not TA's fault, or at least not his sole fault. This is an average staff continuing a long trend. Personally, I would not have a problem seeing where things go, if people would quit blaming players. Hmm. Looks to me like it's people seeing what they want to see... From looking at the stats, the "average" staff seemed to help cut down on the number of interceptions each year. I suppose that could be construed to be all because of the quarterback in spite of the coaches. I know that's how several people on here would spin it. Can we just cut the crap and admit it's not all on the coaches but is also on some of the completely stupid decisions made by TA? Unfortunately it's not just as easy as blaming one party. Everybody has some work to do.
  2. Exactly this. It's unbelievable people are blaming Tommy for our loss yesterday or others during the season. This is squarely on a coaching staff that is asking a QB with tremendous running capabilities to pass the ball when everyone knows this is not his skill set. If Tommy was handing the ball off, running the option and occasionally a pass or two were added to the mix, we win vs. Iowa and probably a few more games as well this season. We don't have the line or rb to run the ball with any success. I'd agree. It's not like we have a Wisconsin line with Melvin Gordon that we just aren't using because we like to pass it around the playground. I really don't think our running game is bad by any means, but honestly I feel like the strength of this offense is the receiving corp. When people say just run Tommy more as if it would magically fix everything, I think they're leaving out most of our offensive weapons. We pass because our receivers are dang good. Even when Tommy would get "hot" they'd still usually have to bail him out. I wouldn't mind seeing Tommy get the call to run 2-3 more times per game. He is indeed a good runner, and I love how he runs with tenacity. I just find it a bit humorous that so many people on this board are so after Riley and Langsdorf about not adapting to the players, but they only look at one player. Frankly, we have a lot of talent spread out on the field, and it would be a shame not to get it in their hands. I think we did a pretty good job of trying to do this. Perhaps this is a way of adapting to the players? Just a thought...
  3. I was at the UConn game yesterday. It was an even game for the first quarter, and they were in it until right before half when UConn went on a 3-4 basket run. They had some trouble with the pressure UConn brought. It also seemed like the ball just didn't want to bounce in for the Huskers. Shepard didn't have the best game- some freshmen mistakes- needed to fill in down low on some UConn drives to the basket. Theriot ran herself ragged and put in a heck of an effort. One thing reminded me of the Iowa football game actually. The ladies let UConn have too many offensive rebounds. Can't give a team like UConn any more chances. Overall, I really don't think it was a bad game at all. I think they could leave with their heads up. UConn is a heck of a team- no shame in losing to them. In my opinion they're almost too good. Had season tickets one year, and frankly it got boring watching them win by 50+ every game.
  4. No...he came here to win AND make money... The problem is...he seems to only be good at one of the two. No...he came here to win AND make money... The problem is...he seems to only be good at one of the two. Well, I was going off of the long-winded diatribe by the OP, which seems to suggest that Riley just came here for the money. This idea is just bad.
  5. Hey, you came out of hiding after three weeks of wins and positive vibes here, coupled with Pelini's season-ending losses and well-publicized meltdowns. You must be so relieved to get back on schedule with your Riley/Nebraska/Eichorst bashing. Cool. Great thread. Just getting annoyed with the player blaming and bashing. That tends to die down when NU is winning. Now it flares up as an excuse.FYI, I posted after MSU. Not so much during the bye week. They were still bashing the players after the wins. At least that's how I see comments like "the players finally bought in" or "I wish the players bought in sooner". Some fans will do anything to protect Riley from any kind of criticism. You think saying this is bashing players? It is bashing the players. It's deflecting criticism away from Riley and putting it on the players.I can agree with deflecting, but it is NOT player bashing... well, it isn't unless you have an agenda to push. To me all that means is there were players that were not happy with Bo... AH hah, that is the reason some call it bashing.. The Bo thing again. Its literally blaming the players by saying they aren't doing what they're being taught. It's the EXACT same thing as "they just didn't execute" that Bo said for 7 years. And we all know how much the fans loved hearing that... Sometimes the players don't execute. Even Bo wasn't wrong about that all of the time.
  6. Seriously. This is just completely asinine. I highly doubt he came to Nebraska just to suck and make money. He pretty much had a lifetime contract at OSU.
  7. Correct, the defense greatly improved as the year went and did keep is in the game till Gerry was ejected. I thought they played pretty dang well yesterday against a top 5 team. Only giving up 250 yards sucks? it doesn't suck, but we didn't force turnovers and still gave up big plays. The defense gave up 21 points while NU's offense only scored 20. I would say the defense didn't play well enough to win the game. Perhaps that just means the offense didn't play well enough to win the game? We all know which side of the ball lost the game, or we at least can't blame the defense for losing the game.
  8. Agreed. You sum up my feelings perfectly. I think he was the best option we had this year. All I know is there was one thing Tommy couldn't do tonight if we wanted- make bad decisions. Goodness gracious, I think that was about as bad of a game as he could have had. I mean a pick 6 on the 2. The kicker is we were never fully out of it despite how crappy of a game it was.
  9. Serious question. Not being a smart ass. Why do they deserve a bowl game? Because they've been here 4 years? Because why? I hate to be hard on them but they haven't earned and don't deserve anything. A lot of that is on the coaches but a lot of it is on unmotivated play of the players. Sorry but I don't want to see this edition of the Huskers on the field again. We need to concentrate on getting a better version on the field next year. Much better. So many people on HB laughed and scoffed when, in seasons past, a 5-7 team made it to a bowl game. Some were pissed. Now that WE are the 5-7 team, it's a great idea to go to a bowl game. My vote is no. We didn't earn it. Everyone needs to get past whether it is earned or not, what really matters is what is best for the team to make 2016 better. Reality is that going to a bowl game allows the team 15 additional practices, which is the same a Spring Ball. That is huge, so get over the other aspects and get on board for a 5-7 team going to a bowl game. Agreed. If we didn't accept somebody else sure would... It wouldn't do anything but hurt us.
  10. I have to disagree that we were "competitive" with Iowa. NU never led at any point in the game, and was down 2 scores for most of the 2nd half. Iowa didn't do much on offense because they really didn't need to. I'm sure that's exactly why they didn't do any more on offense. Definitely because they didn't think they needed to... I mean what's the point of converting a 3rd down? For heaven's sake, give the defense some credit. Holding any team to 0-8 on 3rd down is pretty stinkin' good.
  11. Eliminate the turnovers, and I think we win it easily... The one thing we couldn't afford to do in this game... The penalties were pretty awful too. There were very few 5 yarders. They were all monsters. I guess I was too hung up on the interceptions that I almost forgot about all of the penalties. They all seemed to be at just the wrong time too. I won't argue here about the validity of the targeting call with regards to the wording of the rule, but man do I hate that penalty. I understand why they have it, but too often I'm not sure what the defender is supposed to do- let the other guy catch and run?

  13. Yes. Ferentz is a compentent coach. As I recall he has some less than stellar seasons as well... His M.O. seems to be suck for a few years and then have a good year and then back to sucking
  14. I think TA really could have used some real competition in practice to make him better. Perhaps the possibility of losing the job or at least sitting out a few series would have helped a few things sink in. It's tough, I think a few times during the season he could have used a series or two off, but I understand why we didn't- do you really trust the backups to come in? I don't know if I think he'll start next year, but if he does hopefully the threat of POB or a JUCO will help out. I'm a little tired of seeing this team go as he goes.
  15. The offense played with some ferocity there. The defense needs to do the same.
  16. Woulda liked to have seen a run on the 2pt, but it was there...
  17. The past two years we were worried about being compared to As yet undefeated Iowa. We have now reached the point where we are drifting towards Kansas. Iowa has become a pipe dream. That's all that needs to be said about this "coaching" staff. They are completely lost and in way over their head. To accept this is to finally accept the national narrative that we are in fact a has been program with no chance to regain national respectability. No disrespect for those of you on the positive island at all. I just don't feel like going gently into the good night at this point C'mon, you know the Iowa team we were worried about becoming was the 7-6 team last year and their 4-8 team in 2012. You know the team that hadn't won more than 8 games since 2009? I hardly think one bad year for us coupled with the Iowa's best record in a while is enough to call us Kansas. Maybe sometime, but certainly not yet.
  18. Stop making excuses. How can you compliment the team after we got BLOWN OUT by Purdue. How can you POSSIBLY compliment Fyfe after he single handedly lost us that game. You types of people are the reason we are in this mess because you SUPPORT this dumpster fire of a coaching staff. 10 point loss is now being blown out? Youre f'ing joking, right? It was 42-16 at one point. Losing by 10 to Purdue when you score 21 points in garbage time against a team running out the clock is a disgrace to bad teams. It is completely unacceptable to any football team that is trying to be relevant. How can you trail one of the worst offensive teams in football by 26 points? MR apologists should be writing speeches for politicians. What the f#*k are you reading? The guy I quoted asked when a 10 point loss is considered a blowout and I enlightened him we were down 3+ scores at one point. well he was agreeing with you. it is still the responsibility of the purdue defense to stop the nebraska offense no matter how much time is left. the fact of the matter is they lost by 10 points. I'll never understand why when we score points at the end trying to catch up it's because the other team "let up". In the same vain, I don't understand why the same line of thinking isn't applied to our guys when the other teams scores some at the end trying to catch up. Fans are fickle beings I suppose....
  19. Allowing a 3 man rush to sack Ryker at the end was not good... not good at all...
  20. Right, but this isn't just a Riley issue, this is speaking more to the mentality that was developed before Riley even got here. Look at the recently graduated former players openly mocking the program on twitter during these games. Its ridiculous. Sure, these guys have every right to be disappointed that the coach that recruited them and took care of them while they were at Nebraska is no longer there, however if you were truly playing for the University of Nebraska and not for the coach/yourself then you would be cheering for the team to obtain success. The tweets from guys like Compton and the like are ridiculous and in my opinion relevant to why we're seeing some of the problems that we are seeing. Read Gerry's comments about "some guys" not listening to him last year... Its the culture that has prevailed the past 7 years.... Is this something he put on Twitter or where? I'm not aware of this, but my interest is piqued. I'll see if I can find it. It was an article/interview right after he was named a captain. Here is one about communication: http://www.omaha.com/huskers/nate-gerry-now-a-leader-hopes-to-boost-blackshirts-communication/article_967699b7-f78a-58e9-86e0-d824dcb604e5.html Was on Sharp and Benning: Nate Gerry on Sharp & Benning at B1G Media Days07-31-2015, 03:03 PM This is a bit of beating the dead horse, but it's explanatory for why some of the things happened in the past few years. This is a culture thing - if the staff allows it to happen, it'll happen, especially when people's egos get in the way of team play. https://soundcloud.com/liquid-shane-...-from-nebraska Sometimes Nate Gerry's voice "wasn't heard" last year. I'll have to take a look and a listen.
