  1. Nothing about 'evolution' disproves the existence of God or that God created the heavens and the Earth. The two ideas are not inconsistent or contradictory really. Evolution seems like a very logical way for a supreme being (God) to establish things. What is not logical and defies explanation to me is the 'everything from nothing' theory of the God disbelievers. Scientific theories, whether accepted by a great majority of fellow scientists or not, are just that - theories. So many have been proposed, adopted and hailed as 'gospel' so to speak, then a generation or so later, completely debunked by a subsequent theory. I am confident in saying that there is a lot more science doesn't know about the universe and all things in it that it does know. At this point, the entire knowledge of mankind is most likely a drop in the bucket of all things yet to be learned or discovered. We could easily find that even many basic 'facts' commonly accepted by virtually all of the scientific world, will be dismissed or reconsidered in radical new ways in the coming centuries. But until the atheists can offer a clear explanation for the most basic things of how and why the universe is the way it is, then I think we need to keep our minds open to the spiritual and religious explanations. Many brilliant minds, far sharper than any on this board I dare admit, were and are true believers.
  2. The Clintons have done very little in their adult lifetimes that would be considered honest and lawful frankly. Nearly all liberals know this full well but do not care. They are Dems so they vote blindly for them and do so proudly. It is nauseating and sad. Our Nation suffers from the disrespect by the great majority of the population of and for the law and its processes. It is not a surprise to anyone that Hillary can blatantly lie to all the world, under oath and in the public domain, about her dealings, lawful or not, and nothing is done about it. Some were disappointed but almost nobody was surprised. It is - in the end - just business as usual in Washignton DC and the political realm of this country. 2 billion dollars given to the Clintons for giving speeches? Come on - nobody seriously believes that listening to either of the Clintons has a financial value anywhere close to $25,000 let alone half a million or more. LOL Bribes and political favors and inside deals and 'fixes' of legal, political and regulatory issues were, are and will be 'for sale' to anyone with deep pockets. Should the Clintons once again return to the Whitehouse, the political favors will be for sale to the highest bidders and Hillary has no shame. America will continue to the be the laughing stock of the entire world, so foolish will we be to have re-elected Obama and then to literally top that by putting the Clintons back in the Whitehouse. Corruption beyond your wildest imagination. Hillary is creative if nothing else. LOL
  3. Landlord you are suffering from a bad attitude. Just wondering why? We are not 0-4 yet. You guys need to get a sense of humor. It really makes life go much happier.
  4. The phrase "More than winning!" necessarily includes winning as an important aspect of the objective sought. Osborne wanted to win and do it the right way - not simply do it the right way and hope for the best! My first football coach had his own way of expressing his outlook - "Winning isn't everything but what the hell is losing?"
  5. Gerry also has a great chance to hold the record for most game ejections for targeting fouls in a career as well. Of course, they may revamp the 'Gerry rule' this year and now declare that making picture perfect form tackles is no longer a 15 yard penalty and one game suspension. LOL
  6. I hope Tommy runs for 1,500 and passes for 3,000 with 40 TDs and 2 ints and a 89% completion rate and the team goes undefeated. I would also hope that upon doing the above, most of the critics will stop complaining about his performance. But ???? there will have to be a few. I hope he wins a heisman and the 2016 Huskers rank up there with past great teams. But I will not be disappointed if he and the team come up a bit short of the above as well. Realistically, he should break them all if the team does well and he remains the healthy starter.
  7. There is nothing optimistic or particularly bright about the political 'middle' and certainly not the middle of today. The Democrat party of today is basically a socialist organization and that is not an over statement at all. Today, JFK, perhaps one of the Democrats' better Presidents in the past one hundred years, would be considered to the RIGHT of Donald Trump, certainly no conservative by any stretch. As a result, I doubt JFK could win the Republican nomination, much less the Dems. Today's liberals are practically in a state of panic over the thought that Trump, a middle of the road moderate by historical comparisons, might actually win. Bernie Sanders is somewhat left of 'socialist' and borders on communist. The fact that he nearly WON the Democrat nomination ought to be terrifying to about 90% of the American population! America moving leftist at a breakneck pace and such radical and sudden political shift is dangerous at a minimum. Social change needs to be 'glacial' not sudden or rapid. These radical changes risk turning the stable body politic into a raging caldron of unrest. Far too many signs of this instability are everywhere today. We don't need anymore.
  8. I think we should pay the President and Congress NOTHING for their 'work'. It should be volunteer / charity work to 'serve' the people. It should NEVER be a career and certainly a good part of the problem is that most politicians become almost lottery rich while 'serving' as mayors, governors, Congress/Senate, etc. Look at the Clintons as the extreme example. He was Governor of Arkansas and President for two terms and basically have done nothing else over a 50 year 'working' lifetime (their in their 70s), yet they are worth 2 billion plus! Clinton has been out of office for 16 years and done nothing productive for society except travel around the world living the grand life (wasting resources on a biblical scale I might add) and giving speeches and taking billions from the people they supposedly so magnanimously serve. LOL Let's don't consider paying them more to fleece us all please! As for 'leadership' from Great Men / Women? This country actually needs to elect a 'Great' leader now and then. They don't come along very often and there is certainly a great deal of truth in the notion that few 'great' men become politicians. Politicians are NOT respected by the American people. I am confident in saying that George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Ronald Reagan, our 4 best Presidents and clearly "Great" men, were not respected by sizeable minorities of our population at the time and even today. I dare say there are a big majority of liberals/Dems today that would call FDR, TR, JFK and LBJ (presumably their designated 4 best Presidents) as Great men. FDR was certainly a LEADER and was popularly elected 4 times despite his failures to lead the nation out of the worst recession in the nation's history at the time, even with the war and massive 'make work' projects. Very hard to really convince me he was a "Great Man" as such. As for our present candidates, it is not likely that Donald Trump will prove to be a 'Great Man' although he has certainly accomplished great things in his lifetime. Starting with a million and making about 6 billion in the world of legitimate business is a pretty great feat and this is not debatable. I suppose you could argue that the Clintons have been absolutely the best ever at public corruption going above and beyond anything ever done before by anyone. To some, that could be described as 'great' but to me Bill Clinton is a depraved and disgusting man who has set the 'leadership by example' bar about as low as it can get. He was a masterful liar and was a "Wizard of Oz" type President who managed to convince people to indulge themselves in homes they couldn't afford and live on credit cards and spend beyond their means. The hangover from all that 90s spending binge party continues to this day, so many years later. Hillary is actually not very good at anything and certainly has demonstrated she lacks any semblance of good judgment. Her best accomplishment in life seems to be to have married Bill Clinton and pretended to be his 'beloved wife' while he fondled and assaulted every woman that couldn't out run him. Bill was nicknamed slick Willy because of his ability to skate over scandals that Bill and Hillary got themselves into over a lifetime of corruption. But it seems likely that Hillary was the 'brains' behind most of the criminal schemes the two got into over their liftetimes. She continues to this day and has an uncontrollable urge to lie repeatedly over anything.
  9. So how many single game tickets are yet to be sold? Of course, there are plenty of weeks yet to go to sell those available for the Oct and Nov games and surely the opponents in the Big Ten can sell most of theirs anyway? The first few have pretty good weather chances but for rain anyway so I am thinking they will find someone to take them. There are always the big donors who can buy them up for a buck each just to be sure the are 'sold' and then give them away to friends, family and or sit on them to keep the 'market' from falling out of bed.
  10. Nobody would want Texas in their conference except Texas. OU would be a good member but the Big Ten already has plenty of 'big name schools' in football with Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, Penn State and arguably Wiscy and Mich State are significants. Bringing in the Sooners would mean yet another traditional national power team is most likely elminated from the national title hunt. As Barry Switzer said "You don't win a national championship, you schedule it!" The Big Ten has Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Nebraska who all 'feel' they are or should rightfully be in the national title discussion annually! Having four already means the chances for any of those super power teams is cut by 75% by scheduling. Adding OU and Texas would be insane as that would effectively take 5 of the top 20 out of consideration before the season even starts. I do not want to see college football become like the NFL where a team with several losses can simply win in the playoffs and become the playoff champion.
  11. Trump is not abandoning NATO - Obama has already done that. What is "NATO" at this point. Turkey is a NATO member and had a coup going on and we did basically nothing and have done nothing. Our relations with every NATO country have deteriorated under Obama and Clinton to the point we can hardly count on any of the other members to stand by us in a real threat situation beyond the token bluster you get from 'leaders' of these countries. The British voted to get out of the EU for similar reasons. They could not count on their members to be supportive. The entire refugee mess is a clear indication that the internal politics of many NATO nations are so screwed up and of course the finances of all of them (the USA too btw) as to pose a clear and present danger to the economic and therefore military security of the entire western world. Being allied with a bunch of countries that take and never give back is stupid. We apparently can't seem to help them stop these horrific terror attacks and they have little or no aid to offer us to prevent the attacks here. Russia is no doubt meddling in international affairs for any number of reasons but would NOT be but for the fact that Obama is obviously asleep at the switch. As the saying goes, "when the cat's away, the mice will play!" But PUTIN is basically not threatening the United States and if Europe doesn't feel the urgency to respond to PUTIN's aggressive posture, then why would the US? The entire planet is unstable. Like the giant tectonic plates, countries and continents are in the process of shifting and rearranging themselves from the pressures and forces unleashed by an AWOL United States. Naïve 'leaders' from Clinton and Obama to Kerry and Company have demonstrated they are clueless as to very nature and complexity of international politics. Anticipating problems and putting out the fires before they get out of control is the function of the State Department utilizing the myriad powers and influence of the United States and its allies and organizational powers. Without close cooperation and LEADERSHIP OF THE UNITED STATES the world is a big mess. Whether Trump is brilliant enough at the strategic and political issues to be dealt with in the coming decade is a serious question. But we sure as hell know Hillary is a major part of the problem and NOT the solution.
  12. AJ Bush seems to have some skills and I would hope can atleast be that back up guy. He will have been in the system and taking practice snaps for a couple years. He certainly gives us some great running skills. He shows to be a serious threat. I wouldn't mind seeing him catch a few passes. He is a real 'slasher' with excellent speed. He can break one for 40 or more I am sure.
  13. I don't mean to put Tanner Lee down and I have said that I hope he turns out to be much better than it would seem based on the facts and circumstances of his past, etc. But, for me, I would much rather see another Nebraska kid get a chance to be on the team as the projected / planned 3rd string / back up QB.
  14. The only ones claiming the Republican party is somehow 'history' are the liberals who of course hope somehow that the country will somehow confuse Hillary for something appoaching a 'leader' or worthy of anything except a prison cell. She is nothing but a pathelogical liar and a lifelong criminal. The political and social damage the Clintons have done to America is beyond description. There is no doubt the Republican party as it has been known over the past 15 years is a thing of the past. The establishment types are on the way out and the howling you hear are from those insiders who have been RINOs and Democrats in fact. A solid 60% of the country has had more than enough of the Bush/Clinton crap. The dissatisfaction people expressed in the primaries has certainly not subsided. Look at the protests and the obvious division in the Dem convention is a clear demonstration of this. The Dems think that dumping Debbie Blabbermouth Shultz will 'fix' the gaping scism. Not a chance! Hillary should be feeling the Bern! The proof through another Hillary email scandal is out there for all to see. LOL The Clintons and the national Dem party insiders thought they could rig the election. This will not go away. Crazy Bernie is doing his best to attempt to tamp down the rage but his supporters are not loyal to him - rather for his ideas and political poppycock! The radicals have no clue but they are pissed. It's fun to watch.
  15. I just think the chances are better than 50-50 that we win the west and play in Indy. A very experienced QB who has demonstrated his ability to play at an excellent level. I understand he has also had those not so pretty games or stretches during games. But time and practice do have a way of reducing the errors as repetition does this for almost everyone. There really is a great deal of maturity and confidence and so on that comes as an 19 year old 'kid' becomes a 21 year old 'man'. He can (and I believe he will) get the entire offense to play at a much higher, consistent level this fall. Seniors who have been there and done that a bunch of times just make better judgments, etc. Will he make some mistakes? Certainly as everybody does. But the number and severity should decrease markedly. Newby, Zig and even Wilbon will be more mature and presumably be in better shape (stronger certainly). They too will have another bunch of repetitions and as they say 'the game will slow down a bit' and their athletic ability will show through. Receivers are clearly up to the task. Expect the offense to score more, get more first downs and help keep the field position to our advantage. I expect the number of punts to drop by 15% or more. Punt average may be shortened as Sam will have show he can aim those kicks inside the 10 more. Defense will be interesting but IF those front four can stop the run and chase the QB, we will be improved. Look for more takeaways as our LBs and seconday will be better.
  16. I said "suspicion" not "I know" but I also think kids who go to the Alabama's and Ohio States and Floridas and so on actually get bumped up in their ratings as the raters assume that if Bama wants him, he must be the best. Perhaps I am wrong but I would not be surprised to find somebody out there already has the data compiled. Recruits of the high ranked teams are given higher marks because of who is recruiting them. Obviously, recruiting sites want to look as smart and the top programs so they would naturally align themselves that way. Of course, a given QB, for example, who plays for Alabama is going to have a better career than the same QB who played for Purdue, simply because, presumably, he has better players, coaches, facilities, etc. around him. I believe it is somewhat a self fulfilling sort of deal. The top programs get the better recruits who become the top players because they have the advantages. This is a generalization of course but there is surely a degree of truth in it. No! That is just a fans speculation. Look at Avery when he committed, he hide a rise in rankings. You only follow the kids who commit here. Once someone commits elsewhere, you don't follow them and have no way of justifying your speculation. How do you know that a linebacker at OU didn't fall as wel? Their fans are probably saying the same thing. This is simply a product of geb not playing the game. He didn't go to camps... He worked on himself where the scouts couldn't watch him. Let his season speak for itself and see where the cards fall.
  17. I wonder if the failed coup (perhaps it has not failed yet ?) was a reaction to impending draconian crack down by the existing government/leader? If they saw this radical action arresting and or killing many thousands, this was no small band of a handful of dissenters obviously. Turkey is in deep trouble and so is NATO frankly. I am sorry but once again it all comes back around to Obama, Hillary and Company. All this unrest, instability and civil uprising across the entire Muslim world is the result of a failure of leadership and proactive involvement in the right ways by the US and our major allies. These countries require maximum hands on assistance and steering to help keep peace and order amongst an otherwise historically violent and turbulent people. Stable governance has ONLY existed for sporadic periods in the past 1000 plus years. For hundreds of years, these people have known only violent oppressive regimes (ala Machiavelli's The Prince). It will take generations of people living under struggling forms of quasi democratic rule to develop the kind of public support and respect for law and order and the rule of reasonable laws before these countries will become self sustaining. American leadership (very active, public and non-stop) is absolutely required. We cannot simply stand back and watch from the other side of the planet. Sadly, I believe Obama and Hillary have orchestrated some of this 'unrest' and the overthrow of these regimes - clearly ignorant of the consequences and without a plan for what follows. Democracy and (liberalism in the sense that Democrats tend to use the term) cannot happen without strong government controls as many of the prescriptions are contrary to freedom and independence. Currently, we are seeing the unrest and instability on a much lesser scale of course in America. Disrespect for the rule of law and the obvious application of two standards of 'justice' (one for the political class and one for the average folk) is growing across the country. I am very concerned as to how we put this genie back in the bottle once it has been loosed.
  18. No doubt - we need the action not just the right words but it is not chest pumping and a bunch of blow. I think a good motto for this season could be: "Getting back to business!" or Taking Care of Business!. These guys need to understand that last year showed they have enough ability to win but they won't if they don't get totally focused and each and every player must be accountable and do his part. Just got a good vibe. I may be just letting my Husker heart overpower my thinking but with the most experienced senior QB (with the ability to be a great player if he plays his best) we've had in a long time, and a bunch of hungry supporting cast all able to do their part, the offense has a chance to put up some big numbers. The defense should be capable IF our D line gels (a big 'if' admittedly) but those KC twins may be just the answer. I remember thinking when we were recruiting them that maybe they could turn out to be a little like those Selmon boys at OU. And there is every reason to believe our kicking should be title capable. I know that's a dream maybe but never say never!
  19. Yup, Mavric is just 'marrrrvelous!' He keeps this board a popping with lots of interesting topics, information and discussion. He's not alone but he is certainly a leader of Huskerboard! Thanks a bunch to all of you people, whether I agree or not, I enjoy the conversation and don't mind the criticism and disagreement, althoug it will be more educational if you try to get facts straight. I am so ready for football!
  20. Is that all muscle or would we need to trim him down a few pounds? :-) No - with our new 3 M weight and development program, he will be right in there size wise "Massive Muscle Mass". The new name for the 2018 Huskers will be Tons of Fun! We intend to just 'lean' our way down the field crushing our opponents into the turf as we go. Three drives is estimated to be all it will take to take out the entire three deep on defense.
  21. This is some of the best attitude I've heard coming into a fall camp for Huskers in a long, long time. No over confident BS! No lack of confidence either. Just matter of fact, going about the business of getting ready to play their best and GET R DONE! This team, like a great batch of homemade chili, is heating up slowly and cooking on low heat for hours and letting the flavor meld in so its just right! This is some of the most encouraging news of the summer thus far. Recruiting continues to be a tremendous battle but the top guys are keeping us on their list, amongst the top tier schools. This is good news. We need to reel in a dozen more over the coming 6 months and there's nothing like a dedicated, hard working, focused bunch of current players putting together a solid season to create the energy to put the finishing touches on a TOP TEN class. Yes, top ten is within reach, although it is almost impossible to have the well known recruiting 'gurus' / orgs give us that high rating because, let's be real, Nebraska is not a one of the big target markets to sell the product. If you want to sell your wares, you need to push them in the places where there are lots of potential buyers. Nebraska is a national brand but not what it once was but it will get hot quickly with one great season. We make a run and we'll be right back in the thick of things nationally.
  22. I've always had the suspicion that Husker commits get downgraded by these outfits BECAUSE they commit to Nebraska. It appears that if you go to Nebraska you must not be 'that good'! What say you folks on this observation?
  23. Latest news is a yet another email scandal involving Hillary and the Dems. LOL This time a big conspiracy revealed by leaked emails showing they scheme to fix the primary election for Hillary over Bernie! A few days before the convention. I would say it will at a minimum cloud the decision and perhaps blow the convention wide open and maybe the Bernie fans will have the last laugh yet! Go Bernie! Feel the Bern!
  24. There would be dam few within the Ath Department who would even look back and can't imagine wanting to go back. Of course we don't see all the 'behind the scenes' things that the team and Department staff etc might be suffering.
  25. I am curious as to some names of QBs that are considered "Riley's guy' by way of examples? To me, I think Riley will take a Tommy Armstrong that is an excellent passer. I don't think he would oppose recruiting a strong running QB provided he has a great throwing capability. The NFL prefers QBs that can avoid the rush and pick up a couple first downs on scrambles. Going back decades, the NFL has had quite a few who were pretty capable with their feet. Johnny Unitas was NOT one but certainly Fran Tarkenton was known as 'the scrambler'. POB is supposed to have some decent run skills and I would hope can avoid the sacks reasonably well. It won't do us any good to complete 62% of a bunch of passes if we have 5 or 6 ugly sacks for a loss of 75 yards and several more punts.
