  1. Have you ever been on a team that changed coaches? That stuff absolutely does happen, and those guys had no careers ahead of them anyway. Guess what? Those non-performers still keep their scholarships. Did you hear about T.A.'s tweets after the game? No class at all from that guy. Did you go to the Music City Bowl? The Pelini players (a lot of them, anyway) didn't bother to even show up.
  2. Not all, not all, but enough that it really hurt the team. Let me cite an example--DEP virtually disappeared from the team last season. What happened to that spectacular talent we saw when he first arrived? He's getting back into things this year, but he almost looks like he took a year off. Ditto with Ozigbo, several linemen, several defensive players. Now we have to play freshman and soph receivers just to find performance on the field. We have a freshman at center, a freshman starting at RT. I don't care what you say, that's a fairly good indication that the goods on the shelf have rotted.
  3. It's not at all strange or unexpected. Riley came in and went two seasons with Pelini's recruits. That was a struggle, particularly when those recruits came to NU as Pelini's faithful. That obviously didn't pan out (e.g., Armstrong's "cancerous" effect on the team) and this year it's turning over, new players, young players, veterans mysteriously unable to play for undisclosed reasons. This is the beginning of a damned fine opportunity to finally recruit some quality athletes and move this thing along. The downside? These guys all have a LOT to learn, but good riddance to the stragglers.
  4. We went to the game and had a great time. I happen to believe we're at the beginning of a new, great era of Husker football. I was happy to see so many new faces on the field; it's time to let the talent on board and cast aside those that just don't/can't/won't get the job done. GBR! I don't care much about the whiners, they're a dime-a-dozen. Bo will NEVER, EVER come back.
  5. Firing Coach Riley at this point would be very bad karma for NU.
  6. The injuries are troublesome. I'd hate to see us have to resort to those juniors/seniors to give a decent effort. In any event, I'm going with NU by 4 touchdowns. T. Lee will eventually get it and hit his rhythm.
  7. Also, it turns out that getting rid of Pelini was a 4 year effort. He did the dirty work for us, now we can finally move ahead.
  8. The hillbilly solution of returning to a run-based option offense simply won't cut it in the modern Big 10 world of football.
  9. Word. Stick with Coach Riley. He's a class act, and he's just now starting to bring some decent recruits on board. Clearing the back stock takes time. My only complaint with Coach R. is that he should have cleared the bench last year and booted several of the old order. There were horrible attitude issues left from the old regime.
  10. I can't dispute the age thing, but everyone seems to forget that Osborne was handed a team that was filled with talent and was of national championship caliber. TO coached for over thirty years at one place. I believe it took him a couple of decades to win the championship. No modern NU coach is anywhere near that fortunate, and they never will be again. I mean, go right ahead and fire another coach. We'll see how that pans out in another wasted 3 years. He was "born on 3rd base," though.
  11. This is exactly why we can't have nice things anymore. Tell me again; how long did it take T. Osborne to win a national championship after inheriting that team and talent from Bob D.? More than 3 years, if I remember correctly. Again, this is why we can't have nice things, and it's why we won't have nice things in the future.
  12. Entirely plausible. Just to be clear, which NU coach from the last couple of decades does this refer to?
  13. I mean Harbaugh doesn't block, tackle, pass the football, or make receptions. There are actually talented and skilled players that do that.
  14. There is no way to fix this mess. It's too far gone now, and Nebraska is starting to look like Kansas fiscally--unwilling to spend on universities and education and such. That's not too attractive to top-tier recruits.
  15. LOL. The lesson? Great pay does not equal great coaching. We would be far better advised to simply pay great recruits under the table to commit to NU. We could then hire the Peru State College head coach for $85 per year.
  16. His hands are terrible, though. He wouldn't start in most Big 10 schools because he just can't reliably catch a football. He is fast, though.
  17. Well, true enough, there is very little talent and even less knowledge in the entire offense. A couple of freshman stand out. The veteran receivers are pathetic, except for perhaps DEP. Who was that Nebraska farm boy that dropped a couple of balls late in the game? Was he playing because of boosters? He was horrible. I think many, many dropped balls and tipped balls and overthrows and sacks happened because Lee cannot stay on pace with the game. He doesn't think quickly enough, and he doesn't react quickly enough. He's pie-eyed as he stares at his receiver and the entire defense knows what he's thinking. Lee's a loser in every aspect of the game.
  18. I agree with you, but we haven't had a talented college-quality QB since Cally's tenure. If only Cally had found decent a defensive coordinator . . .
