  1. I never said it was meaningless, only that it should be considered in context. He wasn't a heavily recruited national recruit that had multiple options at high level schools. He was a high school kid in Colorado who didn't care for any local opportunities. He honestly came to the nearest school that looked to be trending up that offered him. When we compete for 4 and 5 star kids that are also being courted by Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama, etc, and they live 1000 miles away, we need our facilities to at minimum be on par with the best in the country.
  2. Kenny was a 3 start kid from next door. Love the guy but his opinion on facility upgrades and how they will impact recruiting should be taken with a grain of salt.
  3. The timing says this was the result of the coaches having a conversation with both of them. We have some studs coming in that should provide much better kicking in 2020 and beyond. I'm a little sad for BP as he obviously put in a tremendous amount of work to get to where he was. I hope he gets a free ride to finish his education. As for Waldoch, I hope he enjoyed the fun. He has never been through a spring training and probably had no desire to. GBR
  4. Throwing into traffic is something most QBs have to do. AM is a competitive guy who forced some balls that maybe he shouldn't have. That isn't uncommon, even among the best to ever play at the college level. Here is a recent ESPN quote on Joe Burrows; “Well also, not just his accuracy, but his willingness to throw balls into traffic knowing that he has the faith in those wide receivers – (Justin) Jefferson, (Ja’Marr) Chase, (Thaddeus) Moss, all of them being able to catch the football,” Leaf said. “And they do. If you look at all the catches against Oklahoma, a ton of them were contested. Some of them, he just kind of threw up there. He has so much belief in his receivers to make plays, and they do, which builds his completion percentage.” A QBs stats are not on an island but rather a reflection of the offense as a whole. AM will be a much better QB this year if his supporting cast performs as projected. GBR
  5. Good players don't always make good coaches. Knowledge and ability don't mean squat as a coach if you can't effectively train others to have the same. There is a reason KW isn't a coach somewhere. Making a snide tweet that possibly creates bad feelings is likely an example of that. I just personally can't believe any of our fan base is ready to change any coaching at this point unless Frost calls for it. The past 10-20 years should have taught us the grass isn't always greener.
  6. You are missing the point several people are trying to make. The stat itself is bad. However, Martinez is only part of the equation that goes into td/int ratio. You can't throw TDS to people that aren't open. You have to force passes occasionally when playing from a big deficit. You get jumpy when snaps are rarely on target. You get jumpy when you don't have faith in your line. You can only run the plays called. It was a bad situation to be in last year for a QB.
  7. But there is a way around it. If you understand all the dynamics from the season, those stats are likely much better than what many QBs would have produced. Those unwilling to truly understand all elements from the season will almost always blame the QB when results aren't good. Reality is they can only control so much of what happening.
  8. I won't go over every offensive weapon he lost as that's been covered extensively. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is he was running the entire playbook and he was being asked to think a lot more. Right or wrong, AM was given a LOT more to think about, including preserving himself. The kids is a competitor and my money is on him making a big jump back this season for 3 reasons. He should be completely comfortable with what he is asked to do this season. He will have a larger, more talented supporting cast of skill players. Lastly, our coaches can call plays that may put him in harm's way since the QB room is finally talented and deep. I believe the hesitation we saw last year disappears and he looks much closer to the year 1 guy we saw with many of the rookie mistakes removed. GBR
  9. And 247 gets paid to place Nebraska in these ratings by all of us. Writers place Nebraska in a lot of preseason things because they know we have the type of fan base that will click on their articles by the thousands. Publications/writers simply make more money by appealing to fan bases that are interested in anything about their team, even if that said team has been bad for several consecutive years. I do believe our offense will be solid this year, but against our schedule, top 10 is seems pretty unrealistic to me. Hope I'm wrong.
  10. Not sure if anyone has seen these stats but he has made significant improvements at every stop. Special team efficiency rating S&P 2011 Memphis (pre-Rutledge): 115th 2012 Memphis: 60th 2013 Memphis: t-1st 2013 North Carolina (pre-Rutledge): t-31st 2014 North Carolina: 91st 2015 North Carolina: 8th 2015 Missouri (pre-Rutledge): t-93rd 2016 Missouri: 96th 2017 Missouri: t-5th 2017 Auburn (pre-Rutledge): t-59th 2018 Auburn: 41st 2019 Auburn: t-7th I think we have a major upgrade and a quiet but great hire. 11. I'm all for allowing a one time transfer. Imo, there are already a lot of real life deterrents in place. It is not easy on kids to switch teams - learning a new culture, new city, new curriculum, etc. If a kid is dead set on making a change, it will be a challenge for them without the NCAA or B1G adding additional penalty. Those same kids also face a huge risk of it not working out at all. From Bleacher Report- "Currently there are 756 student-athletes in the transfer portal from FBS teams that are still active, as in haven't been able to transfer to another school. Those 756 entered the portal between 10/15/2018 (the first date of the portal) to 07/31/2019. There are 857 active players in the portal from 08/01/2019 through 01/30/2020. That is 1,613 transfers from FBS schools that still have not found a home. 1,008 student-athletes have transferred, not all to other FBS schools. For football, in the first year (10/15/2018 - 07/31/2019) there 1,720 student-athletes, 756 currently active (have not transferred), 821 that have matriculated (transferred), and 143 that withdrew from the portal. Right now (08/01/2019 - 01/30/2020), there are 1,086 in the transfer portal, 856 remain active, 189 that have matriculated, and 41 that have withdrawn." That means that more than 57% of D1 football student-athletes who enter the portal are unable to transfer to another football program, essentially ending their collegiate football and academic career. " If a kid is unhappy enough to take this risk, I see no reason why additional penalties are needed.
  12. I believe there is more to the system than actual formations and plays. Riley's system managed players differently. I'm definitely not a fan of how he ran things but he recruited certain types of guys that fit his soft management style of the team. I do think some players respond to that and struggle with a hard nosed culture.
  13. He had good intentions but the system changed making some of his recruits obsolete. If he had stayed, some of those guys may be "hits" since they were a fit for his system. Reality is a rebuild every three years with a system change is bad for any class/classes of recruits at any program. Riley wasn't good for Nebraska but he isn't the sole reason many of those guys aren't here now or aren't preforming.
  14. Again, the FPI has absolutely nothing to do with national media. Here is all the information one needs to understand it; https://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/122612/an-inside-look-at-college-fpi Historically the FPI was been reasonably accurate at predicting a teams performance but the least accurate version is the pre-season one. Take it for what it is - off season clickbait.
  15. This isn't a Preseason ranking but rather just a measure of number of returning production and factoring in the potential of incoming recruits. It's not telling us anything most of us don't know. We have a lot of returning players and we have recruited well. No hype at all imo, just stating the facts.
  16. There is no way Frost, or any other coach, could survive that length of time without a conference championship here.
  17. Don't want CU recruits and don't care who is coaching at MSU. Only thing that moves the needle for me is CU fans upset lol..
  18. So you hate some of the fans for not holding your opinion but you don't hate the guy you hold responsible for the most damage in recent history to our team? I don't like bo but I can understand how others hold differing opinions. Guessing until we have a program winning championships we will have some that hold on to whoever from the past.
  19. I sure don't miss that at Nebraska. I really felt like he brought a lot of those bad calls our way by the way he treated officials.
  20. I was surprised to read that college level refs only make 50k per year. I wouldn't put up with Pelini yelling at me for that much.
  21. If you take away our miserable averages against a couple of teams, we actually had a lot of success on the season with this type of play. I can understand why it was called fairly frequently but it sure was annoying to see in the Iowa game.
  22. The fact that he was being looked at for the position tells me that Frost recognizes the problem and is willing to bring in outside help to fix it. His first target got a better offer but that doesn't mean Frost won't keep shopping. The negative vibe here stinks lately. It's early February people, relax.
  23. Ehhh... There are advertisements everywhere. The mobile is really annoying buy on a standard screen the ads really don't bother me. I just choose to stay off the mobile version unless there is something newsworthy going on.
  24. Great posts above by ColoradoHusk and BigRedBuster. I can't think of a better example recently than the Chiefs. Explosive offense vs the best defenses the NFL had to offer. Having multiple schemes to create explosive chunk plays works at all levels of football. There is a ton of data out there that proves the more chunk plays an offense has, the higher their chances of winning a game. https://www.footballstudyhall.com/2017/8/22/16075050/college-football-big-plays-efficiency-five-factors Frost's offense is designed to create more chunk plays. The QBs we currently have, IMO, are very capable of making these plays once we increase the talent level around them.
  25. I'm not sure he knew in December that he was going to retire. While the dirty laundry was there, it just started getting smelly recently.
