  1. Under O/u one of the freshman backs gets 50+ yards rushing. Over Three freshman combined rushing and returning yards 124+
  2. If I were an Nebraksa outsider, I would absolutely have us on the upset alert.
  3. Does anyone remember the heli flyover before the 99 aTm game? I think it was to honor aTm's first trip to Lincoln. Their band also performed at half instead of ours.
  4. We run the offense. Yes, that's the name I was looking for
  5. Can someone tell me what kind of offense we run? Are we back to being an option team? Sat's offense looked kind of like a mix. The option/no option offense. I don't know how a young OL could adequately prepare for our schitzo offense. Maybe we just didn't want to "show" anything last week. If that's the case, we succeeded.
  6. Not if Al Davis has anything to say about it. and neither did Tommie Fraizer, scott frost, and Eric Crouch. What is the significance?
  7. over. It's seems like too many points, so there is cosmic reason.
  8. Of course the win is good, but I want to see to more td's then field goals, especially against an FCS. This game is a push as far as that goes.
  9. My gb also goes to Cotton. For moving one step closer to watching the game from the Champion's club
  10. I sometimes wonder if I'm watching the same players as everyone else. What specifically needs to happen to our offensive to help Tmart develope into a more productive leader of a reputable offensive?
  11. what some people perceive as pessimism is bizarre. There was an excellant post on another thread, can't remember who for the proper credit, that this game seemed like it was on the micro level. I think that is an excellant point. Is area(s) of concern more politically correct and inoffensive?
  12. I'll cheer for Nebraska . . . just like I did yesterday. Sunshine pumping doesn't make you a better fan. #1
  13. At least he didn't kill his family first. Maybe the media, but it seems like there are more people killing their children and spouse and then killing themselves. Cut to the chase, and your do yourself in first. All this killing your own children is beyond belief.
  14. The board is full of bizarre opinions right now but this is one of the most bizarre. 19 carries for 135 and 3 TD's. 11/22 passing for 116 on a day that many receivers dropped catchable balls. Not perfectly thrown balls but catchable balls. I thought in the 1st quarter he looked much like last year- 1st read and run. Once he settled in that stopped. He's still got a ways to go but he is already very different from last year. Even in sideline demeanor. Last year he pissed down his leg in a bunch of games. This year we will have to see but the only way he isn't our QB is if he gets hurt. So, I guess you will take my bet? Our offense, like every offense, needs a leader. I do not feel that Tmart will develope the leader qualities necessary and outside of his blazing fast speed, he has nothing to offer other then there is no one better. I think as the year goes on, a better leader will develop. I do not know if it will be Carnes, but I am willing to wager that it is not TM. I am not looking at polish, I am looking at potential. You don't know if it will be Carnes? Who do you think it's going to be, then? Rex Burkhead? RKIII? Bronson Marsh? Did you even watch the game? Taylor was the best player on offense yesterday, including Rex Burkhead, who had way too many busts. Carnes is the only other QB the coaches even bothered to get some playing time, and he did virtually nothing. actually, due to Tropical Storm Lee we did lose some of the game so your insult might be somewhat justified. Every time the tv came back on, Martinez was throwing a wounded duck, so my maybe I didn't see all the billiance. Yes, he did show sign of improvement-he took a sack instead of forcing it and he did looking a little more confident. And the rest of the offense looked out-of-synch too, so it's not all his problem-plenty to go around. Outside of just hitting a hole and making a foot race to the endzone, which will not happen too often again better teams, he has to be taught everything. I am sure we all agree, 250 balanced offensive yards should be considered a great day by your starting QB. Whether you like it not, TMart will not be our QB at the Iowa game. I think he will be hurt by then. And yes, I do think Burkhead might develop into a better QB then TM. Of course, he's a Junior and its not feasable at this stage. Stating again- potential, not polish. And I think you agree with me, Tmart is our QB because there is no one else.

  16. Don't tell Martinez that, his post-game quote was "Hopefully the receivers will continue working on catching the ball to make me look good." Wow, if that ain't cocky i don't know what is. Beck's quote "I ran the same play over and over until it worked." If this keeps up, our offense is in trouble. Really? Now we're just blatantly making things up to dis Husker players? Sadly, this quote is not made up. More sadly, it was taken out of context to make Taylor sound cocky. I don't believe Taylor is ever going to be "Mack Brown" when talking to the press. He will always be a little nervous, he will put things awkwardly. We, as fans, need to be able to translate his words. He did say he hoped they kept working to make him look good. However, in the context of the question posed of him, I beleive he meant "they are working hard and I hope they continue to work hard. We all need to work hard. If they look good, I look good, and our offense as a whole looks good. I understand that the offense is a sum of its parts, me included." He just says it awkwardly. Sum fans need to chill out, and think about what the kid means and not what he says. Taylor Martinez = Yogi Berra! He says it in his post game interview on www.omaha.com lol- he is a little Yogi like He is very literal and he really does mean it when says he hopes the receivers work hard to make him look good. He knows he a subpar passer and it's going to take some great catches to make him look as even an acceptable passer.
  17. its was ok. A little vanilla, IMO we have spent a gazillion $ on stadium renovations and we can't get a decent sound system? Embarassing.
  18. We learned that there are fans who will never, ever be satisfied, no matter what. It was the first game of the season with a new offense, new OC, new WR coach, new LB coach, new secondary coach, new assistant coach(es) on the O Line, and things were ragged. Despite this, apparently there are a LOT of people who expected this game to go tremendously smoothly, and who are overwrought that it didn't. It was a first game. There are things to work on. There were problems. The fact that this is the case is not the end of the world, or the end of any title run, or any indication of anything, other than that it was our first game. Apparently a 33-point win just isn't what it used to be. I understand your sentiment, but this is what a message board is for, correct? Imo, we didn't look like a top ten team today. Also, I thought that our kick off coverage was poor, for the most part. What do message boards have to do with anything? Irrational expectations aren't limited to message boards. I've heard them on the radio, at a bar, at a dinner and on the phone tonight. That's what I'm talking about. what did you want everyone to talk about?
  19. You don't see an upside? His upside is when he takes two steps and blazes past everybody for a touchdown run of arbitrary yardage. His upside is being able to work with much more open receivers downfield because defenses are so worried about stopping the run. I think Taylor has improved from last year. It is awful hard to tell after one game, but there is no reason to start Carnes this year - barring as others have said, some sort of disaster from Taylor. We don't want to be going through freshman mistakes with Carnes especially when it would also mean thrusting him into a controversial spotlight. Ask Taylor how that went last year. Taylor has the same strengths running the ball he's always had. That is what we are riding on with him, has been since the beginning and probably always will be. You can't really say yet that it won't work. We'll see where this year takes us. I suspect that if a QB battle is upcoming, Carnes will need to handle being the backup away from the spotlight well this year, and challenge in the Spring. Also, Taylor would need to have a bad year let me ask you, do you see Tmart leading us to a NC? Or even composing a 4th quarter comeback? I really don't. Yes, he's blazing fast, and every once in a while it produces a TD. It's just not enough, IMO. He has so many things to work on that I just don't see him as a starting QB of a top 10 team. I must be wrong, because our highly paid coaching staff thinks he's our #1.
  20. On a positive, love Mendoza. I love that he wants to play bad enough to switch positions. Reminds me of Cody Glenn(on field). Laid some wood too.
  21. Great point. Who needs his big run threat? Carnes has "it" and he's ready to go. Lets just pray TMart doesn't go down. We will be in trouble. If someone took an "it" factor away from Carnes today I sure as heck missed it. He wasn't given a chance to show anything today. I'd say the opposite: he was given the chance to struggle. I guess they really wanted to work on Brion with the option game, which is why almost every play we called with him was option left or option right. What I take away from today: Brion is not good at running the option. Would like to get the chance to see more of him in the next few games. Not for the sake of watching him personally, for the sake of preparing him in the event that Taylor goes down. I posted in another thread about this, but a surprise series in the 2nd quarter would do well. I just see anything new/different/better from Tmart in this first game. Exactly what is his upside? Did he magically become a better leader and passer over the summer? I do recall one play that he took sack rather then forcing it, so that was good. Due to storming, the t.v. was on and off, but I assume that all the players around Carnes were equally young/inexperienced? One or two of the options plays that Carnes pitched were scarey bad. But two drives hardly are indicative of his capability as a QB.
  22. I am willing to bet that Martinez is not our QB at the end the year. I know Carnes looked like the true Freshman he is, but TMart's passing is never going to get any better.
  23. take a lemon wedge, single it with bitters and salt. Suck lemon wedge.
