  1. I kinda figured Riley would be the one doing the hiring. I don't think I've ever heard of a Coordinator hiring his own staff. The head coach will often work with their coordinators to bring in the position coaches. They at least will get input from the coordinator. I would agree with that and I'll also say that I think this is FAR different from the Coordinators doing the hiring. By saying that, we are effectively saying he is the top dog in the decision making process and I'd be surprised if that was the case. Odd thing is, the past couple changes to coordinators Nebraska has had, people have been clamoring for the coordinators to hire the coaches.
  2. I dont remember that unspoken agreement but I remember one about not recruiting kids who verbal to another B1G school. But that went out the window when Meyer became HC of tOSU.
  3. Saw that too. The article I read said their DB coach Paul Rhodes is expected to be at least co-DC in 2017 so I wonder if that might deter Diaco? It would seem to me a former HC and "proven" (for lack of a better word) coordinator wouldn't want to work side by side with somebody else who was just promoted from within the program, but I have no idea -- maybe that would be a plus in some ways. Honest question, though: Regardless of whether a guy was successful or unsuccessful as a HC, does that experience normally help and pay dividends if he becomes a coordinator? I'm sure it varies but a lot of people on this board know way more than I do. Does it matter, is it good, can it create problems, or does it generally just depend on who and what the situation is? paul rhodes has more hc experience and dc experience than diaco does.
  4. wouldnt it just be easier to not drink coffee while reading HB?
  5. shouldnt that be coaches? and if only singular, which one are they replacing first?
  6. and they pretty much said he was an oregon recruit. again.
  7. looks like the calvin decision is gonna keep this thread from 30 pages before commitment time.
  8. who exactly is this guy and why is he paying such close attention to nebraska's recruiting?
  9. why did we need yet another thread to discuss the same topic going on in about 10 other threads?
  10. Saw on 247 Chester Graves has no offer and I am thinking why not? 500 mile radius kid who is three hours away in a big city and he has talent. He is rated highly by the services and it would not be reaching as it doesn't seem he has a clear leader. With the need for immediate playing time, this kid could fit the bill and give us depth at this position. Do we feel he won't fit our defense or do we have other reasons as to why we aren't going after him hard. Rivals says he has an offer, so if he does, the question is why have we not pushed an ov or uv for January? Think his thread mentioned grade issues.
  11. yep, that is what I have always envisioned of Nebraska, being able to win the FCS. I'd equate that to climbing mt sunflower when everyone else is climbing mt everest.
  12. Why would those guys not be on scholarship? With guys graduating, there would be plenty of scholarships available. Well, someone can correct me if I'm wrong. But, I thought this is an issue of the NCAA rule of only signing 25 per class. If you sign 23 one year, then the next you can actually sign 27 and have two count towards the previous year so both classes technically has 25. So, if we signed 21 last year, I would think we would only be able to have 4 early enrollees on scholarship. NOT an NCAA rule - huge contention nationally. 25 is actually a B1G rule, with an allowance of 3 oversigns for a maximum of 28. This causes some fits because this should be the rule nationally, but other conferences ($$$$$$$EC) won't implement it and sign 28-30 regularly. The only way a kid can count against last year's class if he early enrolls. So, if we signed 23 last year, and wanted to sign 30 this year, we would have to have at least 2 enroll early. That would put us at 25 last year, and 28 this year. Make sense? The rule only applies to recruiting classes. Once kids are on campus, the only rule is that the football team stays under 85 scholarships. If we have the scholarships, they can enroll early. We graduated ~15+ guys this past weekend, meaning we have plenty of room for early enrollees. The 25 rule is an NCAA rule. Conferences like the SEC over sign by using loop hopes. The BIG put in the rule of only over signing by 3. The issue is, you have to be down to the 25/85 rules by the time they start school in the fall. But, it still gets back to my question of how we can have 5+ early enrollees? Mav answered this question in one of the threads, iirc. they can enroll early but dont have to be counted against last years class. they can be but they dont have to be was the gist of it.
  13. People who say this actually expect 5 QBs to stick around when they're not starting... that just doesn't make sense, to anyone. there are 4 quarters in a game. we are nebraska and we should be ahead by enough to give 4 qbs reps in every game. (was the sarcasm thick enough?)
  14. True, but I do think 2017 is still a fairly important year for him. Many of the guys starting or seeing significant playing time next year will have been with Riley for a time greater to or equal than their time with Pelini, or they'll be Riley's recruits. Oh I agree 2017 and 2018 will be big years for Riley. Personally I like our chances next year and beyond just due to developing line talent once these guys are upperclassmen that line should be solid. 2017 will be super important going forward for recruiting and direction of the program no doubt and we may look back and say it was a turning point in the program either way. If it's good Riley may be on past 2020. If it's bad I think that may be his last year if he makes it that far what makes you think there is significant developing going on?what makes you think there isn't? That's his only contribution to Huskerboard. He just asks people over and over if they actually think/believe the things they post. Anyone talking optimistically is stupid. Not all heroes wear capes... Sorry I just haven't seen it and I was wanting people to enlighten me ,because believe me I hope there is something to be really optimistic about. people choose what they want to see and believe and sometimes they just dont know what they are looking at.
  15. Not recentlyAnd by recently he means 20+ yearsLet's see....that would put us in the mid 90s.Exactly So, you don't think we got these kind of players in 94, 95, 96???? those 3 years would be part of the mid 90's.
  16. no, it has been alluded to that he might be moving on to be a DC somewhere in the future.
  17. Not this sh#t again.... Some people hate facts. I get it. Willful ignorance is rampant. the perfect description on the vast majority of your posts. why did milt say they didnt rotate back then either earlier this year or last? oh right, your reason was milt was senile and misremembered.
  18. Because 504 is amazing at OSU. In my four years at OSU, we won 5 games.....total. No one cares about this. Yes he is a .500 coach at a program that was .400 before he arrived, what do people expect?? This is a case previous record is not determinant of how Riley might do here But it just might be. Why do we think a coach that has not had overwhelming success anywhere will here? Anderson got worked over in his first year at OSU...this year they had a lot of closer games but mostly still losses. They have their best recruiting class coming in forever and right now they are ranked 6th in the Pac12...Riley was usually ranked around 9. Anderson seems to be proving that you can in fact recruit (a little bit) to OSU and that their weight room is not just two mismatched dumbbells and a solo-flex...It will not shock me at all if they win 7 games next year and start an upward swing. you do realize they are 2-6 in the pac12 and tied with 3 other teams? and depending on how they fare against oregon could put them right back in that 9 spot.
  19. The fact that they don't coach DPE to count players prior to snap is beyond me. Or the fact that no one is counting themselves? I mean, I am not an official, but I'm counting from the stands... Also, going back a few weeks to OSU game when Bryant returned a ball close to the boundary. The fact that he wasn't coached that if he were to catch that out of bounds, that's a penalty against the kicking team. I know that sort of thing rarely happens, but there aren't too many rules for returners to need to know right? That to me seems like one to mention. Bryant looked like it was never mentioned. I don't know. It's the 11th game of the season, and we had 10 guys on the field twice on special teams. 12 guys the week before on the 10th game of the season. The fact that I have to mention these things as a fan in preparation of the last week of the regular season is troublesome. We are incredibly lucky that these things haven't cost us a game (yet). that one is more attributed to being a freshman mistake. in high school he was probably able to return that for a good gain but not so much in college.
  20. I think our next elite back is going to be Tre Bryant. Possibly - I've lost the thread on Ozig (iirc, he's nursing an ankle?) and not sure what happen with Wilbon (off field issues?). I think any of those three has solid potential. Personally, I always liked Wilbon's running style, but I'm not sure he fits what the staff is looking for from a back. I could see him transferring, though with the lack of RB recruiting this year, that would hurt. do you actually watch any of the games? wilbon has been on the field often since ozigbo got hurt.
  21. At what point does MR fire him? Two weeks in a row. Two ST plays in a row.Wow!FG attempt had 11 on the field, but the Terps overloaded the right side and our guys didn't shift their assignments.I count 10 on the block. There is 11 left side one of the OL is hidden but there are 7 on the line.
  22. Mavric linked that article in the "senior day" thread last night. Nice bit of trivia though that i dont think many, if any, would get right without knowing the answer beforehand. I didnt vote cause i couldnt do what nuance did and went with my first guess knowing it was wrong.
  23. I will protest Langsdorf's employment with picket signs and chants of "He Must Go!" if he makes Fyfe throw the ball more than 20 times. What if Fyfe throws 6 perimeter key screens, 4 Swing passes to the running back, 4 screens, 3 shots downfield, and we target CC 4 times. then they'll have to accept the PI on one of the shots downfield.
