  1. Methinks the O-line is actually improved from the last 2.5 yrs. Watch the tape, there are times we get good push and totally collapse the DL into the second level. It’s not consistent yet, and there are gaps, but we are definitely moving the LOS scrimmage forward on a lot of our power runs. Pass blocking is still bad, but we can be coached up and improve still. also, the TE blocking (really happy w Fidone, especially) has been B minus, which is better than before. Further, some of the big runs have been sprung by physical point of attack blocking downfield by WR and TE. we aren’t trying to “outsmart” defenses much anymore, we have a hat on a hat, and we run plays consistently that work until they don’t. When is the last time we just ran s#!t until they stopped it? Been a minute. I like what we are trying to establish. Rhule has held his word, he wants to run the ball. Rhule went from his portal guy at QB to a 3rd yr in-state kid that had never played and that kid and the team has seen some success. That’s what I like to see in year 1. Rhule is doing what he said he wants to be: be tough, run the ball, tough defense, play smarter, be disciplined. Not all grade A but moving in that direction. Gosh dang, fellas…give it some time. We finally have a coach who has done it twice at two bad situations. And so far he has kept to his script: identity, plug along, compete, stick to it, make hay w what we have. Defense seems good, tryin to run the ball (establish LOS), playin some youth especially on defense, attitude seems good despite some losses… We have winnable games and we have to do some s#!t to accomplish what we as fans would like to see. Let it play out before “we” fire some coaches. We can this game against Illinoise, then on to the next
  2. excited for this one. Dude can mash and run. Only concern is that he run’s a little upright. he does lower pads and brings the boom whenever needed, so his contact strength isn’t disputed. He’s fast, strong, and appears to have good hands. I hope he can learn to “lean forward” as he runs a little more as time goes on. Other than that, we got gamer, Cornhusker fans!!
  3. Is Iowa a rival? Yes cuz i can’t stand that team and f them. I hope we win 20 straight against them and I hope they lose every game they play. f Iowa, like literally f them.
  4. Ahhh, yea. There it is. The homer refs angle. N hasn’t had an advantage in officiating since “the kick” in 96 lest we forget ZERO holding calls against our opponents for something like 19 games in a row. Iowa sucks, the nepotism sucks, the racism sucks, the decal sucks and the girls do too. F Iowa, I hope they lose every game.
  5. Grant will obviously need breaks, often in the same drive…hopefully several long drives he’ll need breaks. my hope is that when the younger players do come in, the OC can have plays they are geared and prepared for; practiced for and can contribute. we should win this game based on our so far solid defense and “grind to win” offense. so the new guys playing RB should be able to step in with their specific talents and let loose. it’s trial by fire, but with good coaches we can call plays when they are in specific to what they can achieve. Glad we have a game we can win to test them and see what comes. Let’s see how Rhule “the builder” has built these guys so far. No full judgment, but it will be interesting to see if his approach has any dividends so far.
  6. 21 runs by the QB isn’t sustainable. But it was effective tonight. Little by little I think he could grow into the position. He’s been patient and waiting for 2+ yrs. Glad to see him take advantage of that. from now on this season we should beat the teams we “should” best and be competitive against the others. our defense is very salty and physical. Our offense is physical too, at least at the point of attack. We lack downfield threat but at least we bombed it down the field a couple times to test.
  7. Scott Frost: 6’3 220lbs in a system perfectly established and then tweaked to exactly compliment his talents. Sims: 6’4 220lbs pounding a round into a square. if we ran the 96-99 system, Sims would excel. but that would take years of crafting and tweaking for each player to learn and grow. we’re pulling transfers, tweeners, petulants, and recruits together to try and make 7-8 win seasons, hopefully. if TO had his hands on Sims as a freshman and taught him for 2 seasons he’d be in the Natty hunt, all things considered. Sims is a freak athlete and can do well. But we don’t have the “block down-field WR” or the “mash your head fb” or the “3yr wait to play” road graders OL; the Ahman/Phillips/Brown type talent at IB anymore, w a walk-on dying to have N on helmet. We have what looks like every single other offense in the country looks like. We won enough to become a blue blood because we did what we do, f all the rest. Win or lose, that’s who we are. Disciplined, tough, unique, nasty. Get under center and mash some folks. Spread em a little to make ‘em work. Game in point: N v TaMU 1997, Sims could do that, if we decided to do that as a program. If we are “rebuilding” rebuild to what worked for us for decades. Like decades of success just being us.
  8. Not counting on it, but it would be nice to be up by 20 or so in the 4th and get some reps for back up QB and young WR
  9. They scored a TD and ran the ball decently. An F is a shutout. one player deserves an F even tho he scored, his play overall was an F Bullock needs to catch. Fidone dropped one. OL offsides. Those are all D- plays.
  10. It was fun here at Reed’s Tavern down here south in Lone Tree. Great crowd, great service. our defense plays well enough to win. Hate to say it this early in the season, but I hope our locker room doesn’t start to divide cuz our offense is so bad they deserve some side eyes from our defense. like I said in the Duke v Clemson thread: how is it possible that perennially crap teams can put something together for a game or two but we just cannot? Hell, KU looked decent last night. Can we ever just look competent? we have a huge plug in our asses as a program. We need to pull that plug and just play some damn fun football, go for broke, lighten up, make plays. defense A- offense D-
  11. Blue Devils win they legitimately beat Clemson. gaw dang, how can some teams do these things and how do some teams “surprise the world” (CU v TCU). but if my left foot is cut off and I had a dying wish that my Cornhuskers would win one f’ing game at all, AT ALL, but we can’t pull a rabbit out of the hat since we came back against tOSU some decade ago… I’m so puzzled at our ineptitude. Like, legit puzzled at how bad we are at just f’ing winning a game or two here and there. Close win, upset win, should win but close win, easy win, hard win but got it done, etc etc. why can’t we just win some f’ing games?? I’m resigned to just watch and enjoy. Win or lose. Love my Cornhuskers, all good I’m down for life. But damn, can we win one f’ing game just to feel good and move on to the next possible win?
  12. I wish we ran the offense we did from 96-99. go watch all of our games from those seasons. Easy to do with YouTube. I watched every game from those teams several times during the BS lockdowns. Yeah, we had way better players back then (better talent for the SYSTEM we ran) but I think the playbook (actual offensive formations and plays) is more what I’m talking about. Nothing sets us apart anymore from any other school or their system. We look exactly like every other team. And without B+ to A type talent we are just a team on a schedule. we may get that talent someday but how the f are we using them to maximize that talent?
  13. Starting in the 3rd qtr I said politely, “their left tackle is kick starting backwards very early. by the 4th qtr I was yelling at the projection (we watched in my neighbors backyard on a screen) every time they passed the ball he was pushing back early, very early. Several false starts should have been called. He did it over and over again. They didn’t call it; so it is what it is, but it was egregious
  14. Just gonna watch the games. I have no expectations anymore. We give away winnable games, par/course. we did look much more functional and organized. Definitely looked tougher. Won’t beat Sisters of the Poor w turnovers. positive is that we may finally have all 3 phases working together for once, if things start to click. we have some ballers but nothing explosive. I’m down for this season to see what Rhule can dig out of our players. I voted 7 wins and still think we can get there. I’m cool with how things go.
  15. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=trinU3VD1Zo&pp=ygUTY2hldmVsbGUgc2VlaW5nIHJlZA%3D%3D ”the threat is real, when his sight, goes Red again”
  16. we need to because we need to win. Period. Nebraska has been a winning football program that propped up the whole Univ, the State, and it’s people. I know all the dollars and cents stuff is bottom line. But f#&%, we just need to win because we need to win. it’s what we’ve done and what we need to do. Let’s do that and everything else will take care of itself. No pressure, Rhule n Trev
  17. I live in CO and hang in enough places that people are talking, at least. a couple few people here and there even talk s#!t. I’ve seen more buff swag the last 6 months than I’ve seen in 5 yrs. they have no hopes, if they speak honestly, but they are at least ginned up a little. s#!t, at this point it’s nice to feel a rub n burn for football again btwn us. They no likey and I’m glad for that; we must win so I can serve up some pie
  18. love that Rhule has embraced our traditions and is starting some of his own hopefully he’s around long enough and wins a lot so they can become cemented in.
  19. Strip em down, build em up. besides where they sleep everything else is multi million dollar and state of the art.
  20. Feels good to be on a wait and see approach. throw everything out except the schedule and who the players we have heading into the season, plus health. Everything else remains to be seen. At least we have a head coach in July
  21. Because I live in CO I am hearing a lot of CU hype they had the spring game on TV again earlier this week. First time I had watched it in its entirety. They did not look big, physical, or dynamic. Then I remembered they lost/cut some 30+ payers from that team. So, they will be a different team come fall. But still, even w a revamped team from head to toe, it’s hard to imagine they don’t get kicked in the teeth this first year and sorta collapse. My worry would be that their hype last’s 1-3 games before they take that collapse, which would include our game. We better just be better than them when we play them in hopes of them using a home game against a rival to steal one from us then lose terribly the rest of the season. They didn’t look that good on a rewatch, but who knows? also, I’m really glad Prime isn’t out coach. He brings the gold n lightning but I don’t think he is who we needed.
  22. wut? I did not invoke either of those schools or their wins or losses. my point was…we can have an eye test of progress. We are all very aware of our deficiencies. Which would be easy for us to determine some progress or success, even if it doesn’t lead to wins. Since we follow our DONU so closely we can see if we are getting better and Rhule is doing a good job. But there must be wins, which have been in short supply for 6+ yrs. however, if Rhule doesn’t literally get the wins he too will be judged by his losses, not some perceived gains. He needs to win. That’s what counts. where in the f did you get UCF and Alabama from my post? thx for everything you do for this site, Mav, but don’t throw some things in on my post that I literally didn’t bring up. cheers
