  1. Ohio State has dominated the con so whatever division has them is going to dominate the con. After Ohio State it's pretty even. The East-West divisions are fine.
  2. Yes, the defensive philosophy worked for one year at the G5 level with the highest scoring O in the whole country. Our O isn't remotely at that level of efficiency and and it's questionable as to whether Chin and Co. can even come-up with the "just OK overall, good at turnovers" D" he had in 2017 at the P5 level. Plus you have to look at what UCF has become without Milton, without a first-rate D to pick-up the slack they've become very beatable. Injuries happen. Would feel much better about the future with a first-rate defensive staff.
  3. Ya, was thinking along the lines of how we used to use Eric Hagg.
  4. I think a 4-2-5 with Domann as kind of a tweener is the way to go.
  5. IMO not a coincidence that the one DC hire that really worked-out since McBride was hired due to good networking and good reputation rather than prior ties.
  6. Maryland is very winnable and we're definitely due to come out with a W in one of these type games. Iowa is beatable in Lincoln if we get our act together, they don't have much of an offense. On D we need to be going with a 4-man front starting with the Wiscy game. Three on five against the Iowa/Wiscy O-lines is a recipe for getting busted in the mouth with our crappy LB play. On O I actually think we're close. Some crappy passes and playcalls kept us from absolutely lighting up Purdue. I think we have a big offensive performance in us this year, would be great to shut Iowa up with one.
  7. We have multiple issues that could be predicted but never saw AM actually backsliding coming. Its the bad surprises of that and the playcalling also backsliding that' have tipped this season in a negative direction leading to our recruiting being fairly stagnant.
  8. We should be practicing 4-man front this week and next. Won't make a big difference but I'd much rather have Stille fortifying the front than an assignment-missing LB. Not looking forward to this game. Maryland is definitely beatable and if we get our O together we have a shot against Iowa. They don't have much of an O, get our O clicking and a couple breaks anything can happen.
  9. The scheme itself isn't the problem. it's most of the people involved in making it work. Frost's playcalling has been pretty questionable at times this season. What particularly annoys me is a preoccupation with the screen/horizontal-passing game(especially don't get throwing to Stoll) and getting too damn cute down near the goalline. Also there's been plenty of times when it looked like Frost does have a "fear of failure" and gone into "playing not to lose" mode. Not sure what's going-on with AM but he hasn't developed in the slightest and has actually seemed to regress some. He was the lowest-graded player on our O Saturday, I think Vedral wins that game. Our O-line does improve over the course of the season, why I think Austin will work-out fine once he has his own recruits. They had their best game against Purdue. But they've been plenty problematic, it all starts up-front. TE's have been underwhelming both seasons. Add Beckton to the list of coaches I could do without. At WR we have JD and that's about it. Would have Wandale too but we need him at rb right now. Noa has his moments but hasn't had the impact I thought he would. The loss of Andre Hunt may have hurt us more than we thought, he was penciled in to start this season. Wonder if others enter the transfer portal with Miles. On the positive side we've caught the ball better the last two games. Turnovers and dumb penalties just can't happen. Playing smart, clean, detail-oriented football is vital. Quality teams really get after it AND are technically sound Between all these issues one thing or the other has killed a lot of drives.
  10. Bama better-not lose to LSU then still get into the playoffs because they're getting credit for being Bama. Handing Auburn their third loss would be the only big-time win.
  11. I didn't like this move. If FSU keeps stinking you make a move after the season, during just seems vindictive to me. Let the guy finish things out, if you're right about him he'll just hang himself more thoroughly. IMO Moos handled things right. He let Riley finish the season but had a list of six candidates all of which were contacted through back-channels, he ended-up with three guys lined-up for the job before Riley was ever canned.
  12. Since we wasted a game for 1 rep against NW I would hold him out against Wiscy then throw him out there at least as a "packages" qb against Mary. If that works use him more against Iowa. Redshirt intact.
  13. Multiple positions have been frustrating to watch but none as consistently-so as LB. It's to the point we have no business running a 3-4.
  14. I think Wiscy underestimated Illinois, got caught looking ahead to the OSU game. Plus they turned the rock over three times. Wiscy overachieves, without the big talent edge other top teams have it really shows when they don't come to play. Unfortunately I don't see them screwing the pooch again this year. Wish we had the bye before Mary or Iowa.
  15. Vedral did what was asked of him in the Minn game, we didn't ask much, and IMO that was a mistake with our defense getting run all over. Against Indiana we let him open things up and he did fine outside of the fumblitis, Indiana has a better D than Purdue. No way of knowing for sure what would happen but Vedral has played better than AM did today.
  16. UCF's D was more disruptive but if we're being real they weren't particularly good overall It was an alright D that complemented the #1 scoring O in the nation. UCF fans were actually glad to see Chin gone. On the P5 level G5 alright becomes substandard and all those turnovers UCF got are harder to come by. In terms of O they certainly had better line play but it shouldn't be underestimated just how damn important Milton was. IMO all our close losses are wins with Milton at qb. Before this season we thought AM would make the jump Milton did, instead we're remarking that Vedral would have won this game. Plus there are years of film now and we play against better-coached teams. Now teams are better at attacking what Frost and Chin do.
  17. Purdue lost their only good rb before the season, haven't run on anyone all season, our crappy defense managed to bring their run game to life.
  18. DeWitt's special teams actually held their own today. Still no return game but we covered kicks well and got to the punter. This defense is unacceptable. We couldn't stop a team that hadn't run the ball all season and ended-up playing their third-string walk-on qb. The sooner we admit rolling with staff of an OK G5 defense was a mistake and correct it the better. Vedral would have won this game on O, should have been brought in. Sick of watching us run screens we suck at executing and Stoll being used in the horizontal pass game. Getting cute up near the goaline was costly. Late in the game we got physical down there but the damage was done. IMO not going for it on 4th down at the 1 shows substantial "fear of failure".
  19. Instead of stepping on a downed opponent's throat we step on a banana-peel.
  20. I'm really sick of watching us get out-coached.
  21. IMO this is a false-dichotomy. Our choices would hardly be down to Venables(or some other elite DC already making six figures) or Chin. Of course the former wouldn't take the job here but that doesn't mean there aren't other quality candidates.
  22. Coach Beckton said Florida didn't want to bring the whole staff over,.I remember cringing that he would make such a thing public since it makes us look look more desperate. No he didn't go into detail as to who Florida didn't want but I would be shocked if Chin wasn't one of the guys Florida thought they could upgrade on. After perusing Florida's defensive staff I can't say their stance was wrong. They have proven P5 coaches, we are hoping the coaches of an OK G5 defense. develop a lot.
