      Why do I need to know about 20th century literature if I want to be an actuary? I learned about all that crap in high school.

      Perhaps that was read independently by an exceptional person, who used his college time to become a business genius.

      That's the case for me. I got my BSEE without taking a single English or literature course. I had one semester of technical writing. And a ton of calculus, physics, chemistry and electrical engineering courses.
