  1. The first bolded has already been answered. Frost was the most sought after coach a couple of years ago, and we got him. People can argue whether we get him if he wasn't from here, but we did get him. With respect to the second bolded part, what is your definition of succeed? If what Bo did here wasn't deemed successful, then at this point this is true. No one has won even a conference championship since 99'.
  2. As it has been already said, Wisconsin has absolutely zero shot because they are a two loss team. I'm of the opinion that Ohio State, Clemson, and LSU are already in the playoff regardless if they lose their CC games. I think the Big 12 gets left out this year. The fourth spot could very well set in motion an expanded playoff. If Utah wins and is left out with a Georgia victory, I don't think this will set well.
  3. What I really wonder with regards to Mills is how well he actually knew the playbook? The reason I ask is because of one particular play against Iowa which I believe occurred in the second quarter. Mills barely even got the handoff before two Iowa defenders smacked him for a four yard loss. I watched the replay and could then see why they got there so fast. The guard and tackle both pulled or released allowing the defenders to run right at Mills. I have no idea who was in the wrong here on this play, but it looked like the two OL thought it was a screen pass.
  4. Isn't Frost on record stating that's exactly what he wants his defense to do getting turnovers getting the ball back to the offense? At least from the head coach's perspective I would say it is cause for some optimism.
  5. It was also easier to imagine a replacement for McBride over TO. It doesn't make it make any more sense. Coordinators are coordinators. Venables was forced out at OU after 13 seasons. He goes to Clemson and wins 2 NCs as DCoordinator. How many has OU won since his departure? I'm not saying Chinander is great, but I'm also not willing to throw the towel in on him either. I'd like to see him get his 5 years.
  6. I guess we have different parameters for being a top team for 50 years. In Cooper's 13 seasons as head coach, nearly 40% (38.46%) of the time his team finished the season unranked. In 13 seasons, NEVER once did his team play for a NC. We're splitting hairs here, but never once did his team win an outright B1G Championship. Those 3 you reference they split each and every time. Since you brought it up, let's compare Cooper to Solich. Solich had just one season in which we finished unranked. Cooper finishes unranked nearly 40% of the time compared to Solich's roughly 20% of the time. Cooper never played for a NC. Solich played for a NC nearly 20% of his time at Nebraska. Solich won an outright Big 12 Championship while Cooper never won a B1G outright championship. Cooper finishes in the top 10 roughly 40% of the time. Solich finishes in the top 10 50% of the time. I don't know about you, but I don't consider what Cooper did as keeping Ohio State at the top for five decades. We are also overlooking the season Fickell coached Ohio State to a losing record where they finished unranked. The original post said Ohio State has been at the top for 50 years. I don't know how you define at the top, but I don't consider finishing a season unranked at the top. I would consider top 10 finishes at the top. Cooper finished the season unranked several times. Fickell also accomplished this feat. In the last 50 years, Ohio State has won 3 NCs. We have won 5. Neither program needs to hang their head in shame. Both have done remarkably well in the past 50 years. However, it's both naïve and not true either team has been at the top for 5 decades. It must also be noted that we have never had to vacate wins. We have also never requested the resignation of a coach for violating NCAA rules. We've also never had a post season ban. One must also note that Earl Bruce also coached at Ohio State in the last 50 years. Again, he wasn't a bad coach but more of a Bo Pelini type coach. Very seldom did he find himself at the top.
  7. My wife made this exact same comment. I can see him retiring, but I can't see Michigan State firing him. He's been the most successful coach they've had ever since the 60's.
  8. Would that be the same scheme that allowed Wisconsin to put up 70 on us just a few years later?
  9. Maybe, I was just pointing out that our offense hasn't exactly been a juggernaut for the last decade either. When someone states how poor our defense has been for so long and then in the next sentence talks about the great Nebraska offenses of old, it makes me question some revisionist history here.
  10. Is the bolded really true? In 2009, we ranked #1 in total defense per espn. In 2010, we ranked #9 in total defense per espn. When was the last time the offense finished the season ranked in the top ten in total offense? Here's a hint, Clownahan was the coach.
  11. Against Iowa particularly the second half, our special teams put both the offense and defense in a poor position. It seemed our offense started drives mostly inside of the 10 which limited the play calling. Then, the defense was put in a poor position because Iowa had the short field. Special teams couldn't flip the field. Better special team play would have resulted in a victory against Iowa.
  12. It would be interesting to see if scanned tickets started declining ever since all of our games became televised? When I was a student and had student tickets, we normally didn't attend the game if it was televised. It was easier to drink beer and watch at our duplex than going to the game.
  13. Oklahoma has pretty much been near the top the last 50 years? Really, we're just going to ignore the fact that OU really wasn't very good for a decade? We're going to ignore John Blake's 12-22 record at OU? The three coaches between Switzer and Stoops had difficulties winning at OU. Ohio State had John Cooper as their coach for 13 seasons. He managed a whopping 2-10-1 record against Michigan. Basically, they had Bo Pelini coaching them. His record wasn't terrible, but he really didn't win many games of substance. They were a far cry from being on top. Between Bear Bryant (58'-82') and Nick Saban (07'-19'), Alabama was for the most part the definition of mediocre other than a few years when Stallings was coach. Had Stallings and the BOSSES as you call them not have cheated, Alabama more than likely would have been mediocre through the Stallings years as well. Because of the massive cheating causing infractions and loss of scholarships, Alabama only won 8 or more games 3 times between Stallings (96') and Saban (07').
  14. In 2004, it was embarrassing. By 2007, there was pity from most opposing fans. In 2019, it's just par for the course.
  15. How is saying someone has a confidence problem throwing them under the bus? The team had and has gotten used to losing. It's difficult to come into a program that has gotten used to losing and build their confidence back up. It in no way shape or form says we have bad players. It just means they have a confidence problem with their abilities. When things start to go against them, they fold.
  16. What concerns me the most is throwing in the towel. What direction do we go if Frost doesn't work out? We tried the pro football coach who made it to a Super Bowl. We then hired for the most part fan favorite Bo. We then hired what I always considered the poor man's Bill Snyder in Riley. Now, we've not only hired fan favorite Frost but also one of the highest coveted coaches from a couple of years ago. Is Nebraska football dead if Frost doesn't work out? At this point, I'm terrified at the notion Frost doesn't work out.
  17. If Frost doesn't work out, Moos is probably gone. If Frost does work out, Moos is still probably gone. I think most of us can agree that Frost gets 5-7 years. Moos will be into his 70's by the time Frost's time is either up or renewed. I guess I've always thought of Moos as almost an interim AD. He's done a great job, but I highly doubt he's AD here for ten years.
  18. Karma is a female dog. At least we are in good company with Michigan, Tennessee, and Miami. One really does have to wonder how many years or decades a program must suffer for doing one so wrong? I'm thinking 20 years, so we are getting closer to getting out of the hole.
  19. The bolded is why 95' was one of TO's greatest coaching achievements. The team, particularly the OL, was firmly Team Berringer going into the 95' season. TO by naming Frazier the starter easily could have been looking at a mutiny. However, he was able to hold that team together and well as they say the rest is history. I can't think any more than 10% of the fanbase was Team Berringer. Frazier more than won the fanbase over in 93' especially with what he was able to do in the bowl game against Florida State. Frazier was definitely the fan favorite even though he wasn't necessarily the team favorite. I'm hopeful going into next year that Frost is willing to do the same thing. When the starter is struggling, he's willing to try someone else. The Iowa game shows he will. We should see different packages next year with two maybe three different QBs playing.
  20. Exactly! This is why I think stats from QBs playing for the same OC mean more than stats of QBs from various different schemes and coordinators. Milton seems like a good choice to compare stats with Martinez considering both were recruited by Frost and played within his system, and both started as a freshman and sophomore.
  21. Wouldn't it be better to compare our current QB with QBs that played the same offense? Comparing QBs across different offenses doesn't make nearly as much sense to me as comparing QBs that played Frost's offense at both Oregon when he was OC and UCF.
  22. Well, I'm a wuss with a capital P. I snuck down after the first quarter to sit under the awning. It wasn't bad there.
  23. For the record, I think you have a great idea. If memory serves me correctly, Strong is one heck of a recruiter as well. However, there are obvious reasons why this will not happen this year. For one, Frost is all in on Chinander. Unless he's directed to, he will not be hiring a co-dcoordinator this year. He will not be directed to because he was told he'd have ample time to build this thing back up.
  24. I'm in the camp of hoping on the bolded. However, I can't help but thinking what some recruits had to be watching and thinking on Saturday as well. I'm sitting there flipping between games. It's snowing to beat the band during the Wisconsin/Minnesota game. It's cold and spitting moisture at the Northwestern/Illinois game. Then, there's the Iron Bowl where it's 75 degrees with a slight 5mph breeze. I'm sure weather doesn't play a huge part in where a recruit opts to play, but when you combine it with proximity to home it gets tougher to get players from the southern U.S. here. I've been to around a couple dozen games home games. While Friday's game wasn't the worst weather wise, it was just behind the snow bowl against KState in the mid to late 80's. I'm hopeful the new complex puts us over the top in terms of recruiting. The B1G needs a West team to step up to the plate. This thing is getting as lopsided as the Big 12 was.
