  1. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21653211/predicting-41-bowl-games-college-football-playoff-national-championship Here’s the list of all 41 bowl games. It’s depressing when you look at who’s in and we’re not . Everybody we played, except for Illinois and Rutgers, are in a bowl game. Even Ark. St... man
  2. I think some schools believe that hiring a former, big name NFL coach qualifies as a “splash hire” and carries weight. But this one to me is like the equivalent of Lovie Smith to Illinois. Raises some eyebrows ... and doubt.
  3. Everything seems aligned and it’s truly awesome. Nebraska feels special again and I’m confident that Frost will field a team that we will be proud of, win or lose.
  4. I say UCF. CCG losers tend to have a hangover in bowl games, plus, UCF is going for a perfect season and motivation to knock off an SEC opponent.
  5. Yeah, could be a good angle. Just when most staffs start leaning towards the younger, relatable coaches , we go for a Wood River legend. She could teach J.D. Spielman some moves to shake coverage and then head to her secret locker room kitchen to serve up some Campbell’s Chunky Soup for the players.
  6. With Dawson in at DL, then Parrella must be out. There were posters here making the case for or against Parrella, but since the announcement of these assistants, I haven’t seen any talk about Parrella unless it’s in another thread. I felt that Parrella’s line under performed in both Banker and Diaco’s strain, I mean, scheme, so I am fine with him not being retained. It would be cool to have a staff loaded with former Huskers, but then again , see Cotton.
  7. This thread has morphed into a virtual sports bar. The posts venture away from the main topic and then come back again with new things added. If there are any true old timer message board guys — I’m talking like rec.sport.football.college — then this thread reminds me of 10-3-39! If anybody gets that reference, way cool.
  8. I don’t know about diet, but seeing Frost makes me want to work out more often ! He’s in great shape for 42!
  9. Very true and I agree with you. Though I will say that Riley’s attitude, when compared to other coaches, was rare. He was accessible, realistic and respectful. I’ll miss him for that. Thst person’s letter about the games being fun again because you didn’t know who was going to win — I don’t think so. Most of the games were frustrating to watch because many times, Nebraska lacked the killer instinct to just finish off an opponent. In the old Big 8 days, I used to imagine what it was like to be Iowa State or Missouri — when each of the conference games truly was a toss up. I used to think how fun that might actually be if you didn’t expect to win every Saturday like we used to. But now that we’re living it — it’s definitely more fun to mow over the opponents that you expect to beat.
  10. The recruiting rankings indicate that we have plenty of talent on the roster. For being a staff that was touted as “doing more with less”, Riley and crew did not seem to maximize any of the talent aside from the receivers. I think Frost will maximize the talent that is on the roster because that’s what he did at UCF. To go from 0-12 to 6-7 to 12-0, shows that he definitely knows how to get the most out of each player. There doesn’t seem to be much doubt from people on this board that Frost will kickstart the offense. My concern is defense. Granted, the only UCF games I watched were the USF game and yesterdays. I couldn’t quite grasp what their defensive strategy was. They were aggressive , but over ran plays consistently .
  11. Exactly. I felt good when I read a few seasons back that Epley was back on board. I assumed that the conditioning of the team would improve with his return, when it seems to have slipped the last few years .
  12. Players want to, and need to, be lead. They also need a coach who can teach them to unleash their own leadership skills. We have our leader! I’m feeling so good about Nebraska and so happy for the players.
  13. If I could day anything to Coach Frost, it would be THANK YOU!! Happy days are here again!
  14. Thinking fast, thinking corn .. Jiffy Pop!
  15. Verzal, Benning , Moore — grain of salt. Their opinion of Frost from 20 years ago has no bearing today and why they even bring it up, who knows. On a team of 150 guys, there are 150 personalities and they won’t all get along. The past is the past and everybody has grown up.
  16. Regarding people’s suggestions of former players and Blackshirts being selected for Frost’s staff — look, just because you played, doesn’t mean you can coach. Not all players are leaders and most must be lead. Plus, you don’t just jump into coaching at this level. Seriously, some of the suggestions are mind boggling — players that have zero coaching experience !? Second— look at who coaches hire for their staff : other coaches within their network. Our previous 3 coaches did it, Frost will too. Look at his current staff— they are all linked to him. Coach Dewitt (assoc. head coach, LB’s, Special Teams)- was UNI’s d- coordinator after Frost. Chinander (DC) coached at UNI and Oregon with Frost Austin (OL) grad assistant at Oregon, played at NU Dawson (DL) connected to Frost through Chip Kelly Held (RB) former teammate of Frost, 17 years in coaching Verduzco (QB) coached at UNI with Frost Raymond (director of player dev) same position at Oregon when Frost was there. Dillon (player personnel) from Oregon also Ruud (qca) player at NU, no coaching experience Haines (off. GA) played at Oregon when Frost coached there Duval (strength) was at NU when Frost played here That leaves 3 coaches on his current staff that he didn’t have ties to. And 2 of them were at UCF previously. Connect the dots. Scott won’t be making any big name, splash hires for assistants.
  17. A very “Jessica-esque” article— gather up all the internet musings and post them up in one big potpourri of wonder.
