  1. Game is on! First pass is on the money, second pass tipped for incomplete.
  2. The players themselves continually talk about playing like the teams of the '90s, being like the "Pipe Line" ect. Striving to be the best is the goal of every team every season. The fact that arguably the best team ever was the '95 Huskers, it seem completely relevant for people to bring up "The Past".
  3. Utah St. in 1988 on my 6th Bday. My dad, two uncles and my grandpa all went together. Hot as hell and then it stormed and rained bad enough to delay the game for awhile. The rain felt great then was hot again. When I finally got to the top of the stairs and saw the field for the first time I got the chills. But that didn't hold a candle to when the team finally came out. I will never forget it. Been to lots of games since and get chills every time. OU in '93 is the loudest I've ever heard the stadium in person.
  4. He was in a different offense too, so to put up the same kind of numbers was encouraging. I think his game managing and decision making improved greatly over his freshman season.
  5. Not surprised at all, can't wait to watch him play this season! Just wish Ruud was still there with him, that would be awsome.
  6. Ok, here's how I am looking at the whole situation. It's nature as a Husker fan to expect a certain level of success. Especially when for the last fifty years, no one in college football has won more games than the University of Nebraska. As everyone knows, the Callahan era changed everything that was Husker football. Not just some recruits, but everything this program was built upon was changed. Now Pelini comes in and everyone just expects everything to be fixed over night. By a FIRST TIME head coach. He carries the same values and passion that we as fans do. In his first year we shared the Big 12 North title. Years 2 and 3 we won the North outright and played in the championship game, loosing both of course. But something needed to be changed on offense, so he made a change. A top assistant coach got himself in hot water and left. So Bo had to find some new coaches. So Bo needs to get coaches and players all on the same page across the board. Plus, go to a new conference and deal with all the changes in opponents that come with that. Yet Bo put together another 9 win season. The supposed standard around here for years. I firmly believe that once Bo and the team get used to the new conference and the offense finds an identity, we will be very difficult to beat. But, it is not going to happen over night. Nick Saban didn't even have this kind of success when he started out and he never had to jump the kinds of hurdles Bo has had to deal with in his first 4 years. It took Osborne almost TEN years to play in his first MNC game and he was a once in a lifetime coach. Relax and be patient, college football is cyclical and we are on our way up again. GBR!
  7. Maybe give the guy a chance before you crucify him? Besides, the o-line needs Garrison's FULL attention.
  8. T.O. coached teams very rarely beat themselves. This is what is so frustrating for me. He didn't always have top notch talent but they were very disciplined. Husker fans are upset at the way the team plays. Sloppy.
  9. If there are statistics for the most penalties we had this year by unit, I have a feeling offensive line would by far be the highest. Granted, however, an offensive line can be called for a lot more than most units. With false starts, holding, hands to the face, clipping, blocks in the back, etc., all coming into play, they have a lot more to be called for. Still, I don't disagree with you in what I think is your overwhelming point - the offensive line is one of if not the biggest problem on this team. melscott62, you bring up a point I've talked about before - accountability. Matt Davison spoke about it on Husker Sports Nightly weeks ago. He said when he played, and the offense messed up, guys like Jason Peter, Wistrom, etc., would be down there giving the offense what for and telling them to step it up. The offense would do things similarly. Veterans also played a huge role in holding players accountable. Davison was under the impression guys weren't doing this, and he specifically referenced the Michigan loss. That said, I don't know what to think about it. It's not like all good teams have players that hold one another accountable, because there obviously isn't just one way to be a winner. I think there is a lot of truth to this. I've never been a fan of having different captains for each game. Vote on captains in fall camp and let them lead the team for the entire season.
  10. Im not trying to take a jab at Pelini with my original post. Im just stating that his actions could be part of the problem with this team losing its edge when it's crunch time. I have no doubt that Bo is the right man for the job, but there is a difference between being a great DC and a great HC.
  11. I think we are seeing something in this team that needs to be addressed before we can take the next step forward as a program. It has long been said that a team takes on the personality of their coach. I believe we are seeing this with our team. When Bo only had the defensive side of the ball to worry about, he was one of the top coaches in the country and his teams were a reflection of that. It was ok to see at DC be emotional and intense and maybe get away with losing his cool once in awhile. We see it all the time from defensive coaches at all levels of football. But a Head Coach needs to keep his cool most of the time and pick his battles, thus keeping his team calm, cool, and collected. T.O. was a prime example of this. No matter what happened during the coarse of a game did T.O. hardly ever lose his cool and I think his teams reflected that. He would even predict how the other team would react in certain situations ala Miami in '94. He told his players to keep their cool and just stick to the game plan. Bo usually starts off with a good plan, but when a few calls or miscues happen he loses it and so does his team. Bo needs to grow as Head Coach and realize that blowing up and freaking out isn't always ok. Thoughts?
  12. I just cringe any time Taylor speaks to the media. I know it is a responsibility by the players to do interviews, but can't we make an exception or give him cards to read off of?jk
  13. Baker Steinkuhler needs to take his game to another level. I have never really been that impressed with him honestly. Too bad for T.R though, tough game to miss. And hopefully it is only this one.
  14. '93 OU game has to be put on the list! Snowing, sub zero temps, and peppermint schnapps. O the good 'ol days
  15. As much as I hate to say it........I kinda want to see it just so Boise fans can get their mouths shut once and for all. Whoever they would end up playing would hang 50+ on them. Please. This argument is so old, especially when everyone claims it will happen every time Boise plays a 'legitimate' team, and they win almost every time. They're a better football team than Nebraska, that's for certain. +1. They would hang 50 on us without a doubt. I never said anything about us playing them. At this point I don't think we would beat them either. My opinion is if you pair Boise against LSU, Alabama, or Okst in the title game this season the would get hammered. No one takes them lightly anymore. I give credit to them for what they have accomplished. The fact that they have defeated the big name teams recently leads me to believe that at this point any team in the top ten wouldn't mind taking a crack at them. Kind of like going from the being the hunter to hunted for Boise.

  17. Played against him too in '00. Spanked them on their homecoming. He really didn't impress me that much.
  18. The OSU defense scares me to a certain extent. Miami gave them a lot of trouble with speed. But, our O has an uncanny ability to put the ball on the ground and up for grabs. OSU has got to be licking their chops for saturday. How are we going to handle stopping their offense AND defense from scoring when we are our own worst enemy? I can see this game going much the way of ISU in '09. I would like to think that we will finally face an offense we can stop but if our ball security problems continue, OSU's defense may be the one putting up points.
  19. I like it. Does anyone think Woody Hayes or Bo Schembechler gave a damn what some reporter or the fans thought about him? Hell no, Bo's primary job is to win football games. Everyone wanted him here because of his fire, intensity, and record of success. But since he has been hired, all anyone has wanted him to do was be a politically correct head coach. He was successful because of who he was and how he did it. Let the man be himself and be proud we don't have another BC blowing smoke up everyone's a$$. P.S. I know its not the 70s 80s anymore like when Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler coached and the times have changed blah blah blah. Bo is not a politician, he a damn football coach.
  20. Thank you for that. I literally had tears rolling down my face from laughing. Priceless
  21. Maybe it's just me, but with Pelini being more calm and showing less fire it seems as though our defense has done the same.
  22. Exactly. The one thing that is really starting to bother me about Bo is his "we just need to forget about it, and move on" statements. These players and coaches should watch the Wisconsin game over and over until they are sick. They should be embarrassed and use this as motivation. Bo has said in the past that this game is about emotion. Then lets SEE SOME EMOTION. I don't want our team to be robots and just keep making the same mistakes over and over and over. Right now the rest of the conference and country think that we are a bunch of pu$$ies. What are we going to do about it?
  23. We have been hearing all through fall camp and the first handful of games from the players and some coaches about how we will be just fine and we just need to "clean a few things up" and so on. I for one am so sick and tired of the sunshine pumping and everything will be ok b.s. We have NO accountability or leadership on this team. Period. It's time for the players and coaches to stop patting each other on the back and place the proverbial "chip on their shoulder" and come out with something to prove.
  24. We make way too many mistakes on both sides of the ball to overlook anybody. Period.
