  1. Common Core math isn't the way I would teach it, but I also learned the old way of memorizing math facts...I see where they are going, but I think it's completely unnecessary. IMO

      I'm all for accountability, but with my twins just entering 1st grade this year. The expectations of them at 6 years old is ridiculous and never mind the stuff I was going over with one of them makes no sense to him. He gets the basic 5+3=8, no problem, but moving these dots from this side to this other side then adding other dots screws with him big time.

      I don't understand why they force feed it down every kid. If a kid gets it the "old" way, then don't muddy up the understanding. If common core is helpful for others, then apply it to those kids. I watched a 3min video last night and the narrator talks about one method doesn't fit all, if so, then take your own advice and don't force confusing methods on the other kids.
